...to think this perfume advert sets a terrible example?

The advert for Miss Dior with Nathalie Portman (I think) really irritates me, and for more than the usual reasons of it being just generally perfume-ad daft. It portrays a young woman in a "passionate" relationship, which appears to involve yelling at each other, shoving, and sobbing hysterically on public transport. At the end, she snarls at the camera "What would YOU do for love?" and I just think "Woah, calm down there- I'm probably just going to make him a brew when he gets in and we'll watch The Chase."

AIBU to think that it's probably not a great message to send about about what love should look like?

"Woah, calm down there- I'm probably just going to make him a brew when he gets in and we'll watch The Chase."

I did laugh. Yanbu to hate that advert it's terrible.

What would I do for love? I'll change the bins every so often to give him a treat, and if he makes me sob hysterically on public transport I'll LTB.

MotherCupboard · 19/12/2017 16:22

Em.. wash his pants?

ThymeLord · 19/12/2017 16:24

Woah, calm down there- I'm probably just going to make him a brew when he gets in and we'll watch The Chase

Grin I agree with you though. There is a lot of it about at the minute. "Passionate" relationships (of the type where you fight and shove each other about) are apparently desirable.

What would I do for love? I put up with his farts and feet and fry some bacon every now and then.
The last time we argued on public transport was when he carelessly tripped me up with his wheely suitcase on an airport shuttle bus.

Don't forget she jumps off a pier!

It's a ridiculous advert. Nothing whatsoever to do with love.

Bitchywaitress · 19/12/2017 16:25

Love the fact the song in the advert is about alcoholism

Bobbiepin · 19/12/2017 16:26

Or perfume.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 19/12/2017 16:27

Last year she ditched the bloke at the alter for this one, didn't she?

Gone a bit tits up since then in my opinion, they clearly hate each other Grin

lidoshuffle · 19/12/2017 16:27

This is the worst advert on currently - I hate it with a passion. All that snarling and shouting. I go all cat's bum faced and think 'that's not passion, that's just bad behaviour".

I thought it was Keira Knightly Blush, which, together with the cat's bum, shows I am not the target sector.

The80sweregreat · 19/12/2017 16:28

I just hate all perfume ads - the worst one was the one with Keira Knightly on that motorbike. I have various allergies to most perfume so its personal for me to hate them all. Not seen this one, but it sounds grim!

Moanyoldcow · 19/12/2017 16:29

Yay! It's not just me! When she shouts 'PROVE IT' I want to vomit.

YellowFlower201 · 19/12/2017 16:29

It's ridiculous! Yanbu!! It's put me off getting the scent.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 19/12/2017 16:29

Perfume adverts ALL have to be about the woman rebelling in some way Hmm

GingerbreadMa · 19/12/2017 16:30

Its awful.

Destructive relationship patterns = "passion" "intense" etc, instead of exhausting and hurtful....

I shared my minstrels, THATS true love!

ThymeLord · 19/12/2017 16:33

This is the worst advert on currently

Now that I have to disagree with. Surely the Chanel one, with Kristen Stewart randomly punching through a glass wall, is far more cringy!

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2017 16:37

Perfume adverts are just odd most of the time anyway (always have been).

thatcunningstunt · 19/12/2017 16:40

You have clearly not watched 4od recently, and had the choice of watching the toothbrush advert with the yodeller or beatboxer, then...!

Winterfellismyhome · 19/12/2017 16:42

I hate the one with the guy undressing in front of a two way mirror and there's a group of women swooning on the other side EnvyHmmHmm

Eringray · 19/12/2017 16:42

Totally agree with you on it. Some adverts are real crap and we have no choice but just watch it.Xmas Angry

RachelRosie · 19/12/2017 16:42

The women behind the glass fainting at the mere sight of attractive man advert infuriates me

RachelRosie · 19/12/2017 16:43

Cross post with Winterfell ... glad it's not just me!

SymphonyofShadows · 19/12/2017 16:44

It's almost as bad as the Nicole Kidman "I'm a dancer not" one

Figment1234 · 19/12/2017 16:45

Yes Winterfellismyhome and RachelRosie... that advert gives me the absolute rage!

Snortles · 19/12/2017 16:45

Yanbu. I hate it. None of the perfume adverts make any sense to me, they're either really sexualized or just plain fucking weird.

shakeyourcaboose · 19/12/2017 16:45

The kenzo jungle (i think..) with the woman in the green dress punching her way through floral arrangements!
