...to think this perfume advert sets a terrible example?

The advert for Miss Dior with Nathalie Portman (I think) really irritates me, and for more than the usual reasons of it being just generally perfume-ad daft. It portrays a young woman in a "passionate" relationship, which appears to involve yelling at each other, shoving, and sobbing hysterically on public transport. At the end, she snarls at the camera "What would YOU do for love?" and I just think "Woah, calm down there- I'm probably just going to make him a brew when he gets in and we'll watch The Chase."

AIBU to think that it's probably not a great message to send about about what love should look like?

This thread makes me glad we don't have TV, just netflix Grin

Gramgram · 19/12/2017 16:48

There is that really weird perfume ad which has what looks like a spray bottle of cleaning fluid. I can't work that one out at all, maybe it is a cleaning fluid. My problem is a just switch off during the ads and miss the point of some of them. Can someone enlighten me what it is actually for?

thecolonelbumminganugget · 19/12/2017 16:48

YABNU OP this advert really winds me up. Every time it comes on I moan at DH. How do I prove my love? I ask him if there's anything he wants from the shop, I put his plate in the dishwasher if I'm headed into the kitchen, I don't leave empty crisp packets in the car now we share a car, mostly I don't shout in his face then jump off a pier.

DH on the other proves he loves me by listening to me moan every time this advert come on!

FadedRed · 19/12/2017 16:53

Adverts? Aren't they those convenient breaks in the programme where you mute the sound and pop to the loo/make a cup of tea/refill your wine glass/feed the dog/check the children are asleep/change the babies nappy/add you own little job here...........?

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 19/12/2017 16:53

Frankly yes it’s a shite ad,most perfume ads are dross.so clichéd and v bad
Kristen Stewart showing all her acting talents, with ahem, impassioned running
Kiera knightley showing her full once a tree School of improvisation acting on a moped

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 16:53

Winterfell absolutely! Irritates me no end. Line of women fawning ridiculously - before fainting - because a man has taken his top off and squirted some stuff on his bits. Urgh AngryEnvy

GingerbreadMa · 19/12/2017 16:57

What about the one where julia roberts "breaks out" of one stuffy dinner party to escape to another equally stuffy drinks party?

thatcunningstunt · 19/12/2017 16:58

a spray bottle of cleaning fluid

Moschino, Fresh?

Albatross26 · 19/12/2017 16:58

Come on now, it's not as bad as Johnny Depp driving about in the desert -'what am I doing here?' Or some such moody pretentious shite. I thought it was a joke at first Grin

AngelsSins · 19/12/2017 17:00

Hate it too! I also realised last night that they always use white people too, why? I can't remember the last time I saw a perfume ad with a woman who isn't white in it.

They're always completely over dramatic and pompous too. Hate them all in general.

AbsentmindedWoman · 19/12/2017 17:00

What one is this? I've looked on Youtube and there's one where she's driving on a beach writing "love" in the sand, and Sia's Chandelier is playing - don't think it's the same one though?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/12/2017 17:02

Perfume adverts should come with a Wankery Warning.

NotAQueef · 19/12/2017 17:02

I think the latest Calvin Klein Obsession one with young Kate Moss in it is a bit creepy

whirlygirly · 19/12/2017 17:03

I knew before I opened this thread what you'd be talking about. I feel exactly the same. It's a horrible representation of love. And double standards. If the man were shoving her, there would be outrage.

Happies · 19/12/2017 17:04

I was waiting for someone to mention the Johnny depp one!
Some sausage smelling after shave? Driving in the desert? WTF
It’s like the ad companies Have a competition of who can create the most obscure ad!

DeStijl · 19/12/2017 17:05

Perfume adverts are mad.
The Kenzo one is utterly bizarre.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 19/12/2017 17:06

All perfume ads are awful. I remember one in the 90s where some bird was trying to bang a statue.

A lot of it is left to your imagination though. They could be arguing because he'd begging her not to join her local Antifa plot to assassinate Trump or whatever the MN hive mind would approve of.

CanIBuffalo · 19/12/2017 17:06

The one where Cate Blanchette says 'see, to myself' makes my inner 13 year old boy snurk every time.Smile

BGD2012 · 19/12/2017 17:10

Awful advert. The only perfume advert I like is an old one with Hilary Swank and Muse playing in the background.

NotAgainYoda · 19/12/2017 17:12

Oh God, I agree

It's nearly as bad as Nicole Kidman : I'm a Dancer. I love to dance'

Fuck off!

expatinscotland · 19/12/2017 17:12

That ad gives me the rage! She's annoying as all hell as it is. It's a shit ad, for a shit over-priced product, with shit acting, shit premise and I hope it goes away soon. 'And you, what would you do for love?' 'Not get myself sectioned, you psycho.'

AndromedaPerseus · 19/12/2017 17:12

Those perfume ads look like they’ve been written and acted by irritating 15 year old drama llamas in the throes of teenage angst. It’s Seriously put me off them and I can’t change channels fast enough when they come on

CurryWorst · 19/12/2017 17:16

Why is there a "message" in everything these days? That must be analysed and approved by whoever the fuck is in charge of what we are all supposed to think?

It's just a stupid perfume ad. There is no message, there is no meaning, no-one is taking relationship tips from a 30 second wankfest that is a perfume advert./

it is THE creepiest advert ever - I hate all the aforementioned adverts but this one takes the biscuit!

numbereightyone · 19/12/2017 17:19

This has to be the worst, most offensive perfume ad ever.
