Outside Christmas lights - what time to turn off?

stretchmarkqueenie · 18/12/2017 19:48

Neighbours across the road have put some very bright, flashing Christmas lights outside their house, and tend to leave them on all night. Our bedroom is at the front of our house, so I'm getting disturbed at night when I'm trying to sleep. I'm all for decking the halls and prettying up the house but surely after a time, say 9 (?), the lights can be turned off?? Anyone else had this issue?

People who have flashing outdoor lights deserve to be punished.

Rainybohoho · 18/12/2017 19:49

I would see 10pm as being reasonable. 9 is quite early.

All night is not fair, just pop over and let them know.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/12/2017 19:49

Yes. I just went and asked my neighbours to turn them off after 10pm and they died

It was all very reasonable and grown up!

CodLiverOil556 · 18/12/2017 19:50

My outside lights are on a timer and go off at 9:45

LadyB49 · 18/12/2017 19:51

Mine go off at 10.30 but they are not over the top. Just a few lights on a tree.

stretchmarkqueenie · 18/12/2017 19:52

Still lights I wouldn't mind at all, it's the flashing. It's those bright white/blue lights, the first night I though police were outside!!

Close your curtains?

Katisha · 18/12/2017 19:53

Why oh why oh WHY do there have be migraine inducing flashing lights outside houses? Is so antisocial. I would ban them.

House4 · 18/12/2017 19:54

Only a couple of weeks to go!

BrizzleDrizzle · 18/12/2017 19:55

10pm at the latest

BikeRunSki · 18/12/2017 19:55

Shirley I hope that is s typo Shock!

My neighbours’ lights - also blue and white - also keep me awake. I asked them to turn them off earlier but apparently they can’t Hmm

MsHomeSlice · 18/12/2017 19:55

@ShirleyPhallus - I just went and asked my neighbours to turn them off after 10pm and they died

Bit of an over reaction to kill them!

9 is early, I'd say 10 is reasonable. Flashing lights would annoy me too.

I so want the Mail to run this story!

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 18/12/2017 19:57

Before you go to bed. So about 9 for me.

We turn ours off when we go to bed, they don't flash though and we don't affect our neighbours.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/12/2017 19:58

I garrotted them with the lights

Toast3 · 18/12/2017 20:00

Ours go off at 9.30pm on a timer....they’re white and not flashing though so hopefully don’t annoy anyone...

missbattenburg · 18/12/2017 20:00

My static lights go off at 10.30pm. I'd happily change the timing though if a neighbour asked me to turn them off a bit earlier.

happy2bhomely · 18/12/2017 20:05

Ours don't flash. They are set to come on at 4pm and go off at midnight.

Lots of our neighbours have lights but I wouldn't know what time they go off because we have blinds and curtains. They don't disturb us at all.

I hate flashing lights. Maybe ask if they would stop them flashing.

theymademejoin · 18/12/2017 20:08

I garrotted them with the lights

No jury would convict you
