What do people use instead then? I and everyone I know says "Merry Christmas" Confused

Redglitter · 13/12/2017 19:03

Everyone i know uses Merry Christmas

Bubblebubblepop · 13/12/2017 19:03

What do they say then?

MiraiDevant · 13/12/2017 19:04

I use it but younger generation seem to say Happy Christmas

ScreamingValenta · 13/12/2017 19:04

What is it you're saying is OTT, OP? I don't understand that part of your post. 'Merry Christmas' is still a popular phrase where I am.

PantPlot · 13/12/2017 19:05

How can it be OTT?

CaptainHammer · 13/12/2017 19:05

Everyone uses Merry Christmas Hmm

Is this the myth that no one is allowed to say it anymore in case someone is offended? If so that’s a load of crap.

curryforbreakfast · 13/12/2017 19:05

Everyone uses Merry Christmas.

Are you the "everyone is saying Happy Holidays now" poster?

MiraiDevant · 13/12/2017 19:05

Actually "Merry" is a lovely but underused word. It tends to mean a bit drunk nowadays whereas I like the older meaning of it.

RadioGaGoo · 13/12/2017 19:05

Betting the OP says 'Happy Holidays' Bubble.

MorningstarMoon · 13/12/2017 19:06

Everyone i know uses Merry Christmas. Though I do think Happy holidays also sounds quite cute.

NotACleverName · 13/12/2017 19:06

What are you talking about, people do say Merry Christmas. YABU.

BoomBoomsCousin · 13/12/2017 19:06

Sounds kind of unreasonable. What exactly annoys you about it?

LondonGirl83 · 13/12/2017 19:06

YABU...

Bubblebubblepop · 13/12/2017 19:07

Oh yes Radio. Because MUSLIMS

SpartonDregs · 13/12/2017 19:09

AIBU to be annoyed that no one uses "Merry Christmas" anymore? Its very OTT!

Literally everyone says Merry Christmas. All the bolloxing time.

ScreamingValenta · 13/12/2017 19:10

The Queen apparently uses 'happy Christmas' in her Christmas speech to avoid the connotations of drunkenness attached to 'merry'*

*disclaimer - may be an urban myth [fmsile].

ScreamingValenta · 13/12/2017 19:11

Xmas Smile even

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 13/12/2017 19:11

Yanbu op.

We have loads of American friends and it's not acceptable.

I never ever want to not be able to say 'Merry Christmas'.

Ecureuil · 13/12/2017 19:13

Err... everyone I knows says merry Christmas.
What’s OTT? Is this a Muslim bashing post or an American bashing post?

Medicaltextbook · 13/12/2017 19:14

YABU - I usually say merry Christmas but I'm just as happy to receive any friendly greeting.

TheHolidayArmadillo · 13/12/2017 19:15

Everyone I know says Merry Christmas. But not for another week or so yet. Maybe that's the issue.

Ecureuil · 13/12/2017 19:16

But not for another week or so yet

Exactly... it’s not Christmas yet so haven’t heard anyone giving any form of Christmas greetings this year!

cathyclown · 13/12/2017 19:18

It's all "Happy Christmas" here. People would look at you crossways if you said "Merry" Christmas. That's because is not the norm.

But the thoughts and feelings are the same either way. All good.

Ecureuil · 13/12/2017 19:19

Happy Christmas is fine too. Means the same.
