Neighbor complaint - people using his drive to turn

Sorry I can't add diagram.

So we live on the cul de sack with a turning area. Each house has a driveway. No one parks in the turning area as we have large driveways and there is in shot parking as well.

Since we moved in earlier this year for some reason people use our drive to turn rather than going to the end of the road and use the turning area. This was particularly annoying in the dark evening with car lights.

We got a new fence with automatic driveway gates added last week. This now means people can't use our drive to turn. Our next door neighbor came over yesterday to complain that people are now using his drive instead of ours. We told him there isn't anything we can do. We suggested he put up a sign saying no turning.

He has now posted a note through the door (even though I'm working from home) saying he will be complaining about us at tonight's residents meeting.Xmas Hmm. He thinks we should have discussed our fence/gate plans with neighbors before installing them as they now have to deal with what was our problem. We didn't need permission for the fence or gates.

Aibu to think that people turning on his drive isn't our problem?

Joking aside, I think that you would be a real asset to the residents group, I am sure that they would love to have you. Not least because you have shown you can deal with the petty little bullies.

He clearly had no intention of bringing it up and hoped that he could use his "power" as secretary of RA to bully you, not thinking for one second that you would call him on it!

starzig · 11/12/2017 21:04

Buy him some spike strips for christmas

Seeingadistance · 11/12/2017 21:22

Or a penguin outfit and he can be his own bollard!

BMW6 · 11/12/2017 21:56

Weedsnseeds1 · 11/12/2017 21:56

Noooooooo
Don't Google penguin bollardsShock
I made that mistake once, still plagued by add for the bloody things now...

MycatsaPirate · 11/12/2017 22:15

I would have loved to see his face. Bloody wonderful!

Cheeky fucker. Bet he will stop with his passive aggressive notes now.

And really... cars scaring the elderly? Have they not seen cars before?

He could at least have come up with 'won't someone think of the children!.

AcrossthePond55 · 11/12/2017 22:20

......and they all lived happily ever after. (Except CFN)

B0033 · 11/12/2017 22:35

Brilliant. I'm sure you won't hear a peep from the neighbour about this again.

Tapandgo · 11/12/2017 22:48

Neighbour is a nut job.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 11/12/2017 23:48

Good work OP :)

Spadequeen · 11/12/2017 23:53

Love it!

grobagsforever · 11/12/2017 23:58

I cannot understand how anyone has headspace to care about a neighbour turning on their drive. I'd be happy for mine to do so.

You're all bonkers!

PringlesSmoothie · 11/12/2017 23:59

Well done

Allthecoolkids · 12/12/2017 00:03

Bloody HELL OP.

I want to be you when I grow up. Grin

XmasSteamTrainRealAleOpenFires · 12/12/2017 00:44

Yep they have, but they (the cars) were preceded by Men holding red flags and the dirt roads were also sprayed with water, to keep the dust levels down don't you youngsters know anything at all. Wink

Seems unfair to not allow someone to put a diagram in a parking thread just because they're new.

If newbies could post pictures straight away we would be awash with cocks.

Newbies can't post pics ??

Well that makes me look sideways at older posts that were newbies and had diagrams/pics👀🙊🤡
BitOutOfPractice · 12/12/2017 04:58

@grobagsforever I wouldn't care either except, as the op says, when the days are darker it can be quite annoying to have headlights sweeping across your living room as people pull in. If it's a frequent occurrence I can imagine that would get quite irritating. Other than that I wouldn't care.

didofido · 12/12/2017 07:52

grobagsforever

I agree with you. While I can understand the annoyance of car headlights sweeping through your living room, there are drives so long that the house can hardly be seen and, miserable owners will put up "No Turning" signs. Farmers often dump bales of straw in the entrance.

didofido · 12/12/2017 07:54

However, I still applaud the OP for dealing so conclusively with her CF neighbour. Well done!!

PinkyBlunder · 12/12/2017 08:02

I bow down to you OP.

You are my hero.

diddl · 12/12/2017 08:31

If there's an area for turning though, there's no need to use drives!

LazyDailyMailJournos · 12/12/2017 08:38

TBH I feel a bit robbed now. Normally a driveway or parking thread is good to go for a while. This one has been calmly and maturely resolved by the OP very efficiently - that's not the MN way!! It's supposed to run across at least two threads and go on for at least a week

You're all bonkers!

I know what you mean but my main worry would be someone damaging one of my cars or even part of the property, such as walls etc.

wasonthelist · 12/12/2017 11:12

Great thread op

HarveySherlock · 12/12/2017 11:41

We had always intended to have a fence/gate so the turning on the drive wasn't much of an issue as it was a short term problem. I think historically our drive was used as it was closer than the actual turning area. Mr Neighbor's drive is the next one along so folk are using his instead.

I seemed to have been added to the residents group email list. I got an email this morning from the secretary/neighbor about gritting or the lack thereof. We are not a priority road so justifiably are not gritted by the council. We do have a grit bin which dss uses daily.
