To think this an odd choice of names?

I was joined on to a ‘mummy’ group on Facebook and lots of it is people posting pictures of their ‘gawjus bubs’ and asking advice. A woman posted pictures of her twin sons from their newborn photo shoot with the caption ‘my gorgeous boys Ronnie and Reggie’.

Now Aibu to think it’s really strange to give your sons the same names as the Kray twins? There were lots of comments along the lines of ‘After the Krays?? Love it!! So cute!!’

Lots of people seem to glamourise the Kray twins and think of them as ‘proper gangsters’ and think of them fondly for some reason. One of them stabbed someone in the face and neck with a carving knife and used to rape men; the other stalked his first wife after she left to the point that she killed herself (I know that is disputed).

Aibu to think it’s not an association you would want for your twin sons?

Was she serious? I put pics up of my twins with all sorts of bullshit calling them 'Ronnie and Reggie' and 'Romulus and Remus' or Gog and Magog etc.

Anyway, nobody called them Ronnie and Reggie apart from the press, they were Ron and Reg.

Flisspaps · 03/12/2017 17:18

You put something on FB, it's there for all the world to see - even in a secret group.

The media don't pay to take stuff of FB and MN, they don't ask or need permission - you post it, they print it.

Lauren1998 · 03/12/2017 17:19

More than ok anonymous person but the mother of the babies certainly isn't by your comments

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 03/12/2017 17:19

Also I'm pretty sure even this website has a policy about selling things said on here to newspaper articles.

Yes MN are all for it.

If I had named my children Donald and Vladimir I’d expect to publicly ridiculed for it.

Fromage · 03/12/2017 17:20

I know someone who has named her son after convicted rapist Mike Tyson. And no, not the Mike bit.

ffs

I think naming twins the same thing as famous, dangerous, criminal twins is horrible.

Name them after some awful pair of murdering twins from 300 years ago, who everyone has forgotten, and no one would judge. But Ronnie and Reggie? Too soon, luv, too soon.

Fromage · 03/12/2017 17:25

Can I point out, Lauren, that names are not secret. These boys will be known publicly by those names. That's how names work.

You might not like what's being said about your friend's name choice (if she is someone you know) but it's not like names are private and confidential. We're not discussing someone's medical records or personal business, we're discussing the wisdom of naming your children after horrible men.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be off to tend to my grandchildren, Rasputin and Herod.

Farfromtheusual · 03/12/2017 17:26

My Grandad and his brother are called Ronnie and Reggie and we're both born in the 30s. They're not the Krays though 😂

Lauren1998 · 03/12/2017 17:29

But they are not named after them! She simply liked the names!

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 03/12/2017 17:32

She simply liked the names!

How do you know that? You said you aren’t her friend?

LemonSqueezy0 · 03/12/2017 17:40

I know a set of twins called Ronnie and Reggie! We all thought it was a joke when the scans of twins were being shared with those names but she was being deadly serious! When people pointed out the Kray connection she said she knew and actively liked the names for that reason...Hmm Xx

FizzyGreenWater · 03/12/2017 17:55

Ahhhhhh BUSTED Lauren, you is the friend of misguided gangsta baby mummy

FizzyGreenWater · 03/12/2017 17:57

Lauren you could save the day here. Now is the time to start messaging her things like 'Sebastian is nice' or 'How about Hugo and Oliver?'

Lauren1998 · 03/12/2017 17:58

Your all little low life mums get on with your days 😂

FizzyGreenWater · 03/12/2017 18:04

Can you add a few more 😂😂😂 Lozza I'm not really feeling the put down I think? Atta girl

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 03/12/2017 18:06

Well we’re trying Lauren but you keep interfering.

*you’re

Oysterbabe · 03/12/2017 18:06

Fair enough. It is about time I started getting little Myra and Ian ready for bed.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/12/2017 18:12

Tbf Battered, her last sentence makes no sense regardless of whether your or you're is used!

Nomorechickens · 03/12/2017 18:20

For those of us who haven't had the pleasure of having twins, it must be kind of fun thinking of fun names for them though
Sweeney and Todd
Bob and Dylan
Marks and Spencer
Thelma and Louise
But then you've got to get a grip and not actually name them any of those things (and the same goes for naming them after violent criminals)

CJCreggsGoldfish · 03/12/2017 18:23

I know someone with twin baby boys called Ronnie and Reggie. Wonder if it's the same person (there can't be that many of them surely??). I didn't wonder just what the fuck they were thinking when I heard what they'd named them.

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 03/12/2017 18:32

You had me at Benson and Hedges.

hackmum · 03/12/2017 18:48

I think Lauren is having a laugh.

MrLovebucket · 03/12/2017 20:26

Put yourself in that mummies position before slating her off.. Otherwise your opinion is unfair.. Also I'm pretty sure even this website has a policy about selling things said on here to newspaper articles.

There was me thinking Lauren was bonkers until Andi came along Smile

Name them after some awful pair of murdering twins from 300 years ago, who everyone has forgotten, and no one would judge.

I know they weren't twins, but that was my thinking when I named my kids Burke and Hare. Luckily nobody has caught on yet.

Hadenoughoftumble · 04/12/2017 00:11

Wow I am so naive. Definitely not my intention to have the scummy Sun print this in their disgusting rag and make it look like I was slagging the parents off. It was just an anonymous question to see what other people thought. I actually feel a bit sick. There’s no way of erasing this like it never happened is there? Sad

Yes you can report the thread to MNHQ and ask them to delete it. If you are on the mobile site you click the 3 blue dots at the bottom of your original post and it will bring up some options. One of them is “report post” click it and post a message explaining why.
