To think this an odd choice of names?

Hadenoughoftumble · 01/12/2017 14:34

I was joined on to a ‘mummy’ group on Facebook and lots of it is people posting pictures of their ‘gawjus bubs’ and asking advice. A woman posted pictures of her twin sons from their newborn photo shoot with the caption ‘my gorgeous boys Ronnie and Reggie’.

Now Aibu to think it’s really strange to give your sons the same names as the Kray twins? There were lots of comments along the lines of ‘After the Krays?? Love it!! So cute!!’

Lots of people seem to glamourise the Kray twins and think of them as ‘proper gangsters’ and think of them fondly for some reason. One of them stabbed someone in the face and neck with a carving knife and used to rape men; the other stalked his first wife after she left to the point that she killed herself (I know that is disputed).

Aibu to think it’s not an association you would want for your twin sons?

Awful names. I can't understand why any parent would choose those names except for the attention.

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 01/12/2017 16:22

You seriously can't see the difference between a name that has been a name for a thousand years, lets say Catherine for example, and one you made up for your kid last week, like MaKaybreelynleigh

Other than one has been around longer? No. Humans have been around for a very long time. There are names that have been long forgotten from many different cultures. My son’s name is older than 1000 years old. I guarantee you would think it was made up if you heard it.

Willowthewasp · 01/12/2017 16:22

Really mrlovebucket? I wouldn't want the type of parents who named me after murderers let alone actually living with the name.

Tiny . You would still prefer to be named after someone who murdered people than have a different name to everyone else, really. What if the name was Myra Hindley?

dangermouse7 · 01/12/2017 16:23

Grim and weird.

Like calling your kids Adolf and Eva, or Fred and Rose.

WTAF?! Hmm

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 01/12/2017 16:23

I mean even Catherine was a new name once.

MrLovebucket · 01/12/2017 16:28

Me neither Willow, I thought it was clear I found it odd and dislike the names from what I posted.

The Pinky and Perky comment was slightly tongue in cheek.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 01/12/2017 16:31

I know of twin girls called Ronnie and Roxy (as in Mitchell)

ClementineWardrobe · 01/12/2017 16:41

I know two british bulldogs called Ronnie and Reggie. They're fab dogs.

tinysparklyshoes · 01/12/2017 16:45

did I make any comment on which was preferable? No.

spidey66 · 01/12/2017 16:45

I heard a man calling his two young boys in a shop Ronnie and Reggie. I thought it was odd.

spidey66 · 01/12/2017 16:47

PS My niece is called Violet. Definitely nothing to do with Violet Kray!

ICanNeverThinkOfAGoodUsrname · 01/12/2017 17:05

Separately they're lovely names but it's a definite no no for me to have twin boys called that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/12/2017 17:06

I know of siblings who are called Fred and Rose. They are late 20s, though, so named long before the court case.

Hadenoughoftumble · 01/12/2017 17:23

Abouttoblow she definitely wasn’t joking. When replying to the comments she just wrote ‘I loved these names as soon as I heard them and instantly knew that’s what I was going to call them’. She didn’t answer any of the Kray comments.

All I can think is that some younger people don’t really know the extent to their violent, psychotic crimes? Maybe they just think of them as loveable rogues involved in petty crime who slicked back their hair and wore sharp suits?

I wouldn't call a pair of kittens Ronnie and Reggie, let alone two boys.

There's a little girl down the road called Picasso and my friend's grandson is called Constable. But they're arty farty folk and not celebrating criminals.

happiestcamper · 01/12/2017 17:37

Was it not just a joke? I call my son and his cousin Ronnie and Reggie as they wicked when they are together. They are most definitely not really called this

Oysterbabe · 01/12/2017 17:37

Ha. I'm also in a group where someone posted a scan pic of their twin boys which they inform us will be Ronnie and Reggie. Most people seemed to think they were good choices and someone else said they also knew twin boys called Ronnie and Reggie. There must be a lot of them about. I think it's bonkers.

Lauren1998 · 03/12/2017 16:46

To anyone replying to this pathetic useless post! The mother does not know or even given permission for someone to speak so badly of her new born babies! People mocking the names she has chosen are bitter and cruel! No one ever mentions about celebs names or is that because your all such "big fans" get a grip all of you!!

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 03/12/2017 16:56

Grin I’m guessing Lauren is either the twins Mum or best mate.

First of all lauren no-one needs permission to talk about something she has seen on another public website. If that person is happy to post this information on the internet then they have to accept that people who they don’t know will see or hear about it. The internet is not private.

Secondly, no-one is speaking badly of any babies. They are speaking of the idiot parents who chose the names.

Thirdly, you will see that I actually have posted on this very thread about using celebrity names.

Cakeisbest · 03/12/2017 17:01

Heard the other day of a baby girl called Rubella.

Lauren1998 · 03/12/2017 17:06

I'm no friend of the mother of the twins I just think it's very disrespectful of the way she's being spoken about on this mumsnet 😶 Your all ment to be grown parents not gossiping about some poor woman who probably hasn't heard of them or dosent know what or who they was! Or even if she did why are people living by the past? Silly silly people

MyGastIsFlabbered · 03/12/2017 17:10

U ok Lauren hun?

Hmm
MrLovebucket · 03/12/2017 17:13

Maybe they just think of them as loveable rogues involved in petty crime who slicked back their hair and wore sharp suits?

I blame Peaky Blinders.

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 03/12/2017 17:14

Ok, lauren, suggest you stick to netmums hun. It’s fluffy there.

TiredAndi · 03/12/2017 17:15

No one may need permission to talk about them.. but how about SELLING THIS STORY to a newspaper article? On top of that The Sun of all places? I'm sorry but no mother should ever put another Mother in that position. Imagine if someone had started this about what you had named your child just because there was some bad press about someone else with the same name?
And then went and sold all those opinions as a story for everyone to see.
She had said that she was in a Mummies group on Facebook when she read about the twins names.. meaning that it was only for the people in that group to see.. Not for the whole world..

Put yourself in that mummies position before slating her off.. Otherwise your opinion is unfair.. Also I'm pretty sure even this website has a policy about selling things said on here to newspaper articles.
