AIBU ...Facebook attention seeking

Aibu here....

Friend got admitted to hospital last week. Been messaging her a lot about how she is etc without actually asking why she is in there (respecting her privacy as she didn't openly offer the information).
She posts a photo of herself in hospital on Facebook saying she's been in having an Operation. Cue the "omg are you okay?" "What happened??" I message her and asked what the op was for if she didn't mind me asking seen as it was now public enough to do a Facebook post. She replied "I'd rather not say sorry".

AIBU to get irritated by people being drama lamas on Facebook only to stone wall people who ask what's happened

Cryptic stuff as well, while we're at it.
Especially "I'm really upset right now. Thought I knew who my friends were."
Cue loads of "hun, you OK?"

Right, let’s be honest, this isn’t a friend is it? It’s someone you know, a Facebook “friend” but my an actual friend. If it was a friend you would know what was wrong with them.

Yeah that’s annoying. Why bother posting it if you’re not going to divulge? It’s just weird behaviour.

Really annoying. One of the few good things about the referendum I found was that I had a good fb friend clearout. Didn't care which way they were voting, just if they were spouting crap.

How is it outing? There's hundreds of people on FB pulling the same drama llama tagging themselves in hospital and then refusing to say what's wrong!

That is really annoying to hear. Some people go to great heights to get attention through Facebook. Just ignore her. Or if possible tell her about it and make he be aware.

A family member does stuff like this all the time. Tags herself at the local hospital, leading to a barrage of "u ok hun?" messages, then responds 8 hours later to say she was at the optician's department within the hospital.

I hate this too. Just don't bloody post at all if you don't want to talk about it

I have one who posted pictures of her kid inside an ambulance and had posted it before they even arrived at the hospital 🙄

Nothing worse than attention seekers on social media. Sadly one of my (ex) best friends has become a full blown Facebook attention seeker recently. I know they were having a tough time, but they dealt with it by regressing into a 15 year old, it’s damaged our friendship beyond repair - they took offence to anything by the end, if you didn’t answer a text within an hour you’d get a passive aggressive ‘well I guess some friends just don’t care anymore’ status soon enough. Yet you text them asking how they are, they’d reply ‘ok I guess, you know carrying on’. Life is too short to try and get a proper conversation out of self-involved drama llamas.

Haven’t heard from them since they did a full blown flounce from ‘all their social media, since it was full of too much drama’. I don’t think they understand irony (they don’t seem to know we can all see them log in and out every so often).

I have a Facebook friend who posts on the anniversary of when she was 'rushed into hospital' with stomach issues.

There have been three anniversaries where we all have to relive the canula picture (not attatched to anything) and the pained expression whilst in the waiting room where her pain was 'a 9 or a 10'

She was discharged early the next day with no further incident and never did disclose (publicly) what was wrong. I think she was constipated

I have a friend who constantly posts cryptic status's....over the last couple of days we've had "I've just made the hardest phone call ever", people comment, what's that and hope you're ok? To which the friend just 'likes' these. Never found out what the bloody phone call was.

Then yesterday same friend puts "I can't stop smiling", comments come...oh whys that, or ???, again friend just 'likes' these. Never found out what friend was smiling about!

I've just unfollowed someone who was always saying

"A&E. Again"

and checking into the local hospital

Very similar scenario to the one I had a week or so ago. Nobody knew why she was in there, and despite a PM from me, and has yet to reply.

The worst attention seeking posts are ones where people take a photo of their sick child and then post it on Facebook 😱
A woman I know actually posted pics of her 2 year old barely conscious and hooked up to ventilator??? Firstly why on earth would she think “oh let’s take a photo” like it’s a moment to remember?! And secondly why post it online? It’s so odd

Also people who tag themselves in A&E or pics of them hooked up to drips 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yeah, some people are raging social media drama llamas. I have a few on my own FB who I tolerate because they are amusing at times. Though I do also have a few with MH issues that they are relatively open about, and they will sometimes post 'crap day, hug needed'- type statuses. I kind of let them off, as they are not being passive-aggressive, just asking for a bit of sympathy and attention.

I don't think it's outing at all, I could of wrote that status about at least 3 friends I have on Facebook.
