To think I do not have a problem.?

When the day is done I like a big cold glass of white wine. A friend of mine told me it’s too much Hmm
I wait for the kids to be asleep, they are not babies, it’s not every night. Maybe three times a week.
It’s just something I like to do after a busy day to unwind. Is it really that bad? Does anyone else like a glass of wine after the day? I don’t get drunk as I don’t like a hangover so I’m wise not to have to much.

It's fine. You're fine.

I had a glass of merlot at 9am the other day. I'd finished a night shift, it was my evening and I hardly ever drink...

But no, sucked in breath all around.

Hmm

Of course if I'd had it at 7pm before I started my shift that would also be wrong.

Ignore.

Eolian · 14/11/2017 16:18

Of course a glass of wine 3 times a week is fine!

The80sweregreat · 14/11/2017 16:18

I think thats fine, one glass wont hurt i am sure.
I am sure that some people will flame you on here, but we all need to de stress after a busy day.
I like a drink at weekends with dh and we watch the tele - its not everyone;s cup of tea but it a social thing for us and we dont get drunk or anything like that - just a nice way of ending of the week and relaxing with a glass of wine and whatever reality show is on with our dinner. nothing wrong with it at all!

Wolfiefan · 14/11/2017 16:19

Depends. How big is the glass? If it holds a whole bottle then that's not good.
Is it really only three days a week? If it's creeping up towards every day that's not good.
If you can't do without it then that's bad. If you can take it or leave it then what is the harm.
Make sure you have other things to help you decompress too so you don't rely on alcohol. But three glasses in an entire week? Really wouldn't raise alarm bells for me.

Ttbb · 14/11/2017 16:20

Um, well it's not doing you any favours but I don't see any reason for concern unless you are dependent on the alcohol to help you relax. Would you find it just as relaxing if the wine was non-alcoholic.

Anymajordude · 14/11/2017 16:20

It's not that bad. Three glasses a week. Most people I know have much more than that.

I probably have a bottle of wine a month, a couple of g&TS or a shot of rum in my cocoa a couple of times a week although some weeks I have nothing.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 14/11/2017 16:20

I like a big glass of Coke and it's probably nearly as bad as wine!!

letsdolunch321 · 14/11/2017 16:21

Guess we all have different opinions.

A large glass of wine 3 times a week - good on you.

I have a wine every evening, even starting as early as 4pm Sat/Sun. What is the problem with that !!!

I work full time, my evening drink is my chilling time.

Bottoms upWine

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 16:22

Il have a bubble bath instead of a glass of wine or read, but now and then a glass of wine, I woke lie it’s a large wine glass not massive but not small. Just was shocked when my friend said it was bad I did that!

Rachie1973 · 14/11/2017 16:23

I do a bottle a week. I know it doesn't deviate because it comes in on my shopping delivery. I tend to have a large glass Thur & Fri night, then finish the bottle on the Saturday. I don't work the next morning on those days.

The amount you're drinking is fine and well within recommended limits.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 14/11/2017 16:23

Is she teetotal?

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 16:24

Sorry meant I won’t lie not “I woke lie” stupid phone

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/11/2017 16:24

A large glass of wine x 3 a week = 9 units. Way less than government guidelines. You're fine. Your friend is bu.

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 16:24

No she’s not teetotal
But has no children. So I’m assuming it’s the? Dunno Confused

OP posts:
ninjapants · 14/11/2017 16:25

It's fine, provided you can take it or leave it. If you really can't get through the week without doing this on three evenings then it could be the beginnings of alcoholism

Wolfiefan · 14/11/2017 16:26

Did she mishear and think it was a massive glass every night? You don't seem to depend on it and you have different strategies so I wouldn't worry.
FYI I grew up with a parent who had a problem with alcohol. I'm normally the one shouting out yes you have a problem! Not this time.

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 16:29

Feel a Little better now reading a few comments that I’m not some raging alcoholic!

OP posts:
Arrowfanatic · 14/11/2017 16:30

I have a bottle of wine most weeks. Usually a couple of glasses on a saturday/Sunday evening and then finish off what's left on the Monday (usually a glass worth).

I really enjoy it and look forward to it, but if we have weeks we can't afford that bottle of wine (I do like a decent white or prosecco) then I'm not fussed if I don't have it. You're fine OP, enjoy your wine xxx

hotbutteredcrumpetsandtea · 14/11/2017 16:31

You have a friend problem, not a drinking problem.

Wolfiefan · 14/11/2017 16:31

Ha. Not close.
Someone with a problem with alcohol relies on it. Their life and relationships are affected by it. Lots of other things.
They don't sometimes have a glass of wine and sometimes have a bath instead!

Mitzimaybe · 14/11/2017 16:38

How many nights does a bottle last? One bottle a week = no problem and debatably healthier than teetotal. A bottle a night = might have a problem.

whiskyowl · 14/11/2017 16:39

Oh, FFS, your friend is just annoying. One glass of wine three times a week is no problem at all. Tell her to eff off back to misery land!

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 16:40

Oh Christ no ! I couldn’t have a bottle in one go!
A bottle will last me 4-5 days

OP posts:
RagingFemininist · 14/11/2017 16:41

Whilst you don’t have an alcohol problem, I personally have an issue with having to rely on alcohol to relax.
By any mean, go and have a bath, read a book, sing whatever else is he,ping you unwind. But looking forward to the evening to have some alcohol to be able to do so makes me uneasy, in the way it does to your friend.
I think that when you are at that point, it’s extremely easy to start drinking more and more because its a very easy way to relax. And in your head it’s already the best way to do so.
Alcohol shouldn’t be used as a prop for relaxation,. Drink it because you enjoy it, with some good food.

cjt110 · 14/11/2017 16:42

I really fancy a nice glass of white now OP

3 glasses a week is nothing.
