To think I do not have a problem.?

When the day is done I like a big cold glass of white wine. A friend of mine told me it’s too much Hmm
I wait for the kids to be asleep, they are not babies, it’s not every night. Maybe three times a week.
It’s just something I like to do after a busy day to unwind. Is it really that bad? Does anyone else like a glass of wine after the day? I don’t get drunk as I don’t like a hangover so I’m wise not to have to much.

I as having a bottle of red a few times a week.

DailyMaui · 14/11/2017 17:42

The farmer next door to my mum's has wine at breakfast!

They do live in France though.

Mind you, my hotel in Sorrento last year was serving prosecco at breakfast. And I found that really rather civilised.

Enjoy your wine.

DailyMaui · 14/11/2017 17:43

Shotsfired my two are now old enough to get me wine from the fridge and rustle up a greek salad. I feel we have turned a corner in parenting.

ReanimatedSGB · 14/11/2017 17:46

One way to deal with people like your friend is to throw the bullshit right back - 'I've noticed, you seem to be getting awfully.... officious. Do you think it's good for you? How many times a week do you feel the need to stick your fucking beak in? Is it because you hate yourself, deep down? Have you thought of adult colouring books, or mindfulness meditation, or a kale enema instead?'

Jasminedes · 14/11/2017 17:47

I think its fine, but I did find mine was creeping up to 5 or more nights a week. I have cut right down, as part of a general health drive, and don't 'need' or want it as much as i used to. Its nice.

Mitzimaybe · 14/11/2017 17:48

lougle

I said debatably because I think there have been some contradictory studies done. However, have a read of this:

FetchezLaVache · 14/11/2017 17:50

Did your friend clutch her pearls as she admonished you, and ask if nobody thought of your children? Grin

FetchezLaVache · 14/11/2017 17:52

@RagingFeminist - could you link to that thread, please?

Turquoise123 · 14/11/2017 17:52

Why is this any business of your friend ? 3 glasses of wine a week is not an issue - or does she have an issue ?

Nelly1727 · 14/11/2017 17:54

A bottle every night yes a problem. 3 large glasses a week is not an issue. But really the occasional night when you drink too much is a massive issue? I don’t drink in the week but when I do I tend to drink too much. Probably only drink once every 4-6 weeks but easily drink a bottle in one night, sometimes more. By the sounds of it this is more a problem than 3 large glasses a week (so how stilt don’t sit and drink alone, this is when out with friends)
I wouldn’t worry about 3 large glasses a week.

Armi · 14/11/2017 17:55

Christ, modern life is depressing.

Drink your wine and enjoy it.

Sarahh2014 · 14/11/2017 18:00

I'm currently sat with a brandy and lemonade

LittleLionMansMummy · 14/11/2017 18:01

I don't think it's a problem op. And I say that as someone who has personally known a fair few people who abuse alcohol to some degree. Just watch that it doesn't creep up. And I second the pp who said why make a point of saying you wait till the kids are in bed. My 7yo ds knows I drink wine occasionally and enjoy a glass on a Friday night in particular. The rest of the time I normally have a Brew in my hand instead.

confused123456 · 14/11/2017 18:02

I can easily drink a bottle a night, every night. And I do. I have a very high tolerance, I don't get drunk and I never get hangovers.
As long as a parent isn't falling about drunk, I see no problem at all.

robinR · 14/11/2017 18:06

You have a high tolerance because you drink too much

I can't imagine that someone drinking 70 units a week every week doesn't have a problem

runners656 · 14/11/2017 18:15

well your obviously worried enough by having a problem to make a thread on mumsnet about it

Remember that somewhere in the world it has gone 7pm Smile

Wolfiefan · 14/11/2017 18:19

It's easy to question yourself when someone acts like YABU
A bottle a night on the other hand is seriously bad news. And not having a hangover? Actually awful. Shows your high tolerance to alcohol.

LizzieSiddal · 14/11/2017 18:22

1 bottle of wine = 10 units of alcohol (as long as it's not super strong wine)

The advice is 14 units a week, so you can drink around a bottle and a half over a week and be fine. (you should have 2 none alcohol days a day in a week)

PovertyPain · 14/11/2017 18:22

Personally I think you should combine the bath and wine. 😉

ForalltheSaints · 14/11/2017 18:23

If it is not daily then it seems within the recommended safe limits.

Awomansworkisneverdone · 14/11/2017 18:26

Ha ha no I don’t hide it
I prefer to have it in peace after a busy day to enjoy it to myself than having kids playing up etc so il wait until it’s quiet and I have time to myself !
But thanks

And to those who keep asking why I’m making a thread, I started a thread to see if anyone else does this. That’s all

BGD2012 · 14/11/2017 18:28

I drink 2 bottles of 10/11% wine a week. I drink it over 3/4 nights and I'm definitely over the weekly 14 unit limit. I do enjoy it though!

Mamabear4180 · 14/11/2017 18:33

I have a few shots of vodka (anything from 2-6ish) 1-2 times a week, when the kids are in bed, depending on the week. Sometimes I have port and cheese instead. I have other ways to relax too but it depends what mood I'm in. I don't think about government guidelines.
