Fucking arsehole.

Not content with fat shaming his son and using the word “retarded” because he is an arsehole. His only worry about his son is that he might grow up far. He isn’t worried if this happens to his daughter as “there are uses for fat women”.

Fucking arsehole.

Latest article in Esquire magazine.

No Giles, you’re not funny or satirical....you’re a fucking arsehole.

I don’t care what MY son becomes as long as he isn’t a dickhead like you.

Imagine being Victoria Coren - all you have to do is not be Giles Coren and you are - according to Twitter at least - some kind of cosmic gift to the world to compensate it for your brother.

I find her irritating personally, but at least the worst thing she seems to have done to her child is to name it Barbara.

RosaTheOwl · 10/11/2017 13:57

On reflection he's probably worried that the fat will get in the way of all the butt raping he wants his son to do
Should someone call social services? Do men's magazines do us a favour by ensuring we know who not to piss on case of fire?

ironically by his wonderful sister!

lifesaverormassmurderer · 10/11/2017 14:05

Vile creature Shock

If I was sister I'd be distancing myself from him publicly.

ThisNameNow · 10/11/2017 14:25

Yanbu

What an idiot. I don't see how it can be described as satire. The wanking article was even worse.

Imagine if you had chubby kids and knew him. It's bad enough being offensive about your own kids....

nasty twat.

SecretSmellies · 10/11/2017 14:28

TBH I just hope Esther is keeping all these nasty, vicious little articles safe and handy for the divorce.

myshinynewusername · 10/11/2017 14:35

I'd rather my sons ended up fat than a giant misogynistic cunt like Giles Coren.

Also, I just roared at the "hereditary journalist" comment above. I think the media is heaving with them, unfortunately. It is really holding back the quality of our media discourse.

RosaTheOwl · 10/11/2017 14:39

Esther know who she married

his "work" has hardly been a secret over the years.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 10/11/2017 14:43

I was just about to say what Rosa said. Esther knew exactly what she married. I remember reading a few of her pieces in the run up to the wedding and was struck by what a shallow, unaware person she came across as. She's written plenty of articles for crap like the Daily Mail about how she married him because of his house etc.
And no, i'm not linking to them ;)

QueenThisTime · 10/11/2017 14:43

It doesn't matter why she married him or how open her eyes were. She has a right to change her mind, like anyone, and I'm sure she knows that too.

I actually think, despite it being his well-known MO blah blah, his writing is so unpleasant towards both her and their kids, it would count as abusive in any normal marriage.

Imagine if an MNer came on here and said she was upset because her H was mouthing off about her and her kids weight, her DD's "sexiness", his wanking propensities etc etc in public to anyone who would listen. We'd be shocked and telling her to LTB sure enough.

Freyka · 10/11/2017 14:43

jealous of his amazing sister, jealous of his father. He has failed at everything see his crap book about eating out.

CaptainHammer · 10/11/2017 14:45

I read through some of the replies here before reading the article and thought it can’t be that bad. How wrong I was. What a dickhead.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 10/11/2017 14:53

he and his missus both love a spot of professional trolling. I'm sure I would too, if the Daily Mail were kind enough to drive a dump truck of money around to my house in return for a few hundred slightly morally dubious words of copy.

I'd not bring my own kids into it, mind.

TabbyMack · 10/11/2017 14:55

God, you truly are the stupidest bunch of people on the internet, aren’t you!

It’s satire. It’s not supposed to be taken literally it’s supposed to make you think. A big ask for most MNers, granted.

Do you seriously think he doesn’t care if his son grows up to be a crackhead? No. Me neither. Start there.

Horsemad · 10/11/2017 14:55

Ugh, repulsive odious man. I really hope someone reports him to Social Services.

squoosh · 10/11/2017 14:58

It’s satire. It’s not supposed to be taken literally it’s supposed to make you think.

Poor love. You got your 'supposed' in the wrong spot. Your sentence should read 'it's supposed to be satire'.

squoosh · 10/11/2017 14:58

Sadly, old Gilesy boy isn't very gifted in the art of satire.

RosaTheOwl · 10/11/2017 15:00

Tabby, you think all the years of his work are satire?! um, no.

as for people saying on MN we'd say "LTB" - sure. But that's a person who comes along and reports this kind of thing as a shock, which isn't the case here.

"it would count as abusive in any normal marriage."

I don't know if that would make a difference in a divorce settlement but even if it is a factor, surely the issue here would be that she knew who he was - it was all over the media when I was young, so that's a long time, lol.

RosaTheOwl · 10/11/2017 15:02

Tabby "Do you seriously think he doesn’t care if his son grows up to be a crackhead?"

I think a lot of people really don't care how their kids turn out as long as it doesn't reflect badly on the parent. in which case GC can rest assured because his kids will probably look at him and opt to be decent!

Marylou2 · 10/11/2017 15:02

Tabby is that you Giles?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 10/11/2017 15:02

What do you think it's satirising, Tabby? To what end? What are we supposed to be thinking about and looking at differently as a result?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 10/11/2017 15:05

Mockery directed at the powerful serves a purpose and can be called satire. Mockery directed at the powerless is not satire, but bullying.
The sad thing about his writing is he doesn’t even see how he’s exposing himself to ridicule.

MadeleineMaxwell · 10/11/2017 15:18

Grin Marylou

And I agree, Karlos. If this is truly aiming to be satire, it should be more clear and more clearly targeted. Either way, the only conclusion is that he's a shit writer.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 10/11/2017 15:18

Ah I knew he’d make an appearance.

Cheers Tabby ...er....Giles.

I knew at some point some idiot would be along to try and defend the poor wee lamb.

And he’s an arsehole for using the word “retarded” too.

No it’s not satire....he really IS that awful. Have you not read any of his other offerings? All equally as offensive.

OP posts:
KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 10/11/2017 15:24

the Last time I read an article by the little gobshite - quite some time ago - it was largely given over to complaining about how all the people he was at Oxford with (shoot the admissions tutor now) are all much richer then him.
Here’s the thing, fuckface. Those people have real jobs. They get up in the morning and do them all day. They are clever and good at things. You are not. Suck it up.
