To spend nearly 3k on new sofas?

The sofas in our house have seen better days. 2 are over 15 years old, they were expensive at the time but are now worn and battered, the seats are worn so I have to keep . The other is newer but was only ever bought as a cheap temporary measure.

So I feel time has come to replace them. I've been to see ( yes I know not everyone's a fan) and seen a couple of ranges I like. But by the time I've bought 3 sofas and s footsrool it's basically £2600-2700. Which is a lot of money. But if they last another 15 years isn't much per year really.

So wibu to go and buy them? If I order this week I can get them by Christmas. Hoping I can also get the 4 years interest free credit too.

Can you afford them without it making you struggle? If so then buy them.

Should be that I have to keep throws over the sofas. No idea where that part of the sentence went!

£57 a month if u get the interest free for 4 years. If that is affordable to you go for it.

DFS is very over-priced. And DO NOT take out their after care insurance. I got talked into it and they decided halfway through the policy that they were changing the policy so that it no longer covered scratches/scuffs. I was so angry and shocked that they were allowed to do this.

Google similar styles to the one you've seen. They are seriously over-priced. You could get an even better one elsewhere with your budget/get the same thing cheaper.

If you are looking at dropping 3k on furniture, look at the Black Friday deals this month from nicer retailers; or wait till January sales.

By way of sort of comparison, I got a sofa and massive armchair thing which seats about 6 people all in, for £1k, almost 10 years ago. From SCS. I went to DFS but found the hardsell offputting. Apart from the cat scratches clawy little cow they are otherwise very lightly worn.

It's up to you. How are we supposed to know if you should buy them?

Yes £50 odd a month is fine. I don't really have it all to pay upfront (well I could but if anything went wrong with my car etc I'd be struggling, so I'd rather keep my savings and pay in instalments as interest free).

I have looked elsewhere and I can't find what I want much cheaper th.

Basically what I want is a large 'lounger sofa, a 3 seater, big swivel chair thing and footsrool in a plain pale grey fabric.

I can't find the lounger sofas elsewhere except in patterned fabric which I don't want, or leather (ditto). I could swap the swivel chair for a 2 seater but I definitely need the lounger. And other than DFS I can't find one.

Why don't you wait until the Christmas sales and get the same sofa for significantly cheaper. I wouldn't buy furniture now particularly with the sales starting on boxing day. It'll make a big difference to your budget if you could get 30% off or more. Madness and shortsighted to buy it now.

Surely DFS are due another sale soon? Can’t you just wait it out a few weeks?

Cheese - my newer sofa was £450 from eBay. It's lasted 8 years and I'm only replacing it because I need to replace the others, and I don't really like the colour anymore. It's actually lasted pretty well despite the modest price.

One of the ones I'm looking at is already reduced in DFS. They might get cheaper but they might not, I could wait til end of the year and the price might not drop.

If I was spending that sort of money, I'd go for MultiYork or something similar, rather than DFS.

DFS are rubbish - mine and friends who have bought there too rarely last 5 years

We sold on our DFS sofas after 6 years as we no longer sat on them as they had no back support and gave us back ache. They were leather so still looked nice. I'd resorted to IKEA poang chairs in pregnancy and couldn't face using the sofas again.

We spent a slightly eyewatering sum on G-Plan electric recliners, but they are so comfortable and suitable for both me and DH who have a 10 inch height difference. He needs neck support and I need my legs not to jutt out painfully into mid air. Sofas that suit both of us are very rare (I'm convinced most sofas are instruments of torture and hate having to stay with family sitting for hours on their ergonomic nightmares)

Our sofas are worth more than my car

There's nothing wrong with spending what you can afford on a sofa, just make sure that it will be comfortable for years and isn't just a style statement.

I always get mine second hand off ebay. I've had some amazing bargains. In excellent condition. Maybe worth a look to see if anyone is selling what you want locally.

Look at nabru. We have one and i love it. Even more so that it was £400. All covers come off so can be washed or order new ones if I want to change from blue to another colour. They have a shop in London but free returns within 30 (or maybe longer) if you don’t like them (as they don’t really have shops except London). Best thing is is that you get them made to the size you want so will fit your space 😊

I def wouldn't go to DFS as it's a bad investment. And that's a lot of money to spend on stuff that won't last very long.

A few years ago we bought one sofa from sofa.com and one sofa from Homebase. There wasn't that much in it, cost wise, but the sofa.com one is super comfortable and looks good as new while the Homebase one is uncomfortable and just looks a bit crap.

I really would rethink dropping three grand on DFS stuff.

Multiyork would be basically double. Plus they don't have the style I need.

It's all a gamble isn't it I guess. I bought a sofa off eBay (New, from an eBay shop iyswim) which was supper cheap but has lasted well. I'd be sick if I do buy these sofas and they don't last anywhere near as well.

I prefer made.com and they are cheaper too.
