To bloody hate fireworks??

So my 1 year old DS is so ill with a chest infection (as am I) and has just thrown his dinner and bottle up all over his bedroom floor and direct NDN are having their own mini fireworks display in their tiny back garden. DS’s bedroom is at the back of the house closest to their side and he obviously isn’t going to sleep for shit and is just screaming his little head off

I know it’s not extremely late and they could go on until 11 if they really wanted to but they have kids of their own I would have expected to be in bed too by now and DP is 1 more firework away from going round there and shoving them where the sun don’t shine. I really don’t want to start neighbour wars as it’s all I bloody hear about at work, so if it comes to it I will have to go round and politely ask if they could stop now - they do seem like nice people so I’m sure they would.

My DM and DF also live up the road have 6 cats who are all scared stiff and have gone into hiding bless them!

But AIBU to think fireworks at home are so bloody inconsiderate??

YANBU- especially when it starts weeks before the 5th and continues afterwards. We have had fireworks going off here since 6pm pretty much continuously

I think it is okay to ask people to stop fireworks. As long as you do it politely. I have done it before. It was no problem.

I've got one cat hiding behind the sofa...the other curled up on DHs lap...he just looks up at DH at each bang for reassurance...cat flap is locked.

Hopefully your neighbours wont have that many to keep going much longer OP!!

Been going off non stop here since about half four. I'm at the end of my tether with them. Some are so loud I keep jumping. I just want some quiet.

I LOVE fireworks! A lot! But I still think people with direct neighbours shouldn't have displays at home, it's just not fair or necessary. The big displays are enough, surely.

The ones right up against the house have started (hugely built up area, gardens far too small to safely use fireworks, never mind the great big powerful ones). The curtains are drawn, all the lights are on, the tv is on full blast, I have a cd of firework noises playing to try and drown out the ones outside, and the dog is still barking hysterically and endlessly in distress. He was fine with the ones in the distance but how do you desensitize a dog to painfully loud bangs directly outside the house?

Yeah I don’t mind the ones further away but directly next door is a bit much! But the ones further away are obviously someone’s neighbour too so I’m sure they’re pissing someone else off!

Exactly mctat there’s big displays everywhere these days, I really don’t see why everyone needs to do them at home!

Thankfully the really big fireworks at the pub just down the hill have stopped. The dog is coping really well. He's barked a few times and shaked his head, they're clearly hurting his ears, bless him.
He's asleep now it's gone quieter. Cats also asleep, little kitten is tucked into my onesie.

I wish they'd make them illegal.

The ones in the distance are mostly the organised displays - numerous big ones tonight and tomorrow in the parks! Which is great, as they're at a good distance from houses or animals. They've got the really big fireworks and bonfires, they're a great night out. It's the ones in six foot square yards in crowded housing estates that I can't be doing with.

YANBU to hate them (I do too!) but YABU to ask NDN to stop at 8pm, that’s pretty early and it’s only a few nights a year, their kids may have been looking forward to this for a long time!

I do feel your pain though OP used to love them before I had babies who were disturbed at night and scared by them! We’ve recently moved and I can’t believe how loud they are, it’s constant every single second and the last few nights they’ve still been going off at 1.30am!!!!! No clue who’s doing them or I would complain.

DD2 (3 months) has been woken up twice by them already and DD1 (2 years) is quiet for now but I’m sure will be up soon they’re so loud her monitor is picking them up.

Can’t wait for these next few days to be over!

Thank you McButton, he’s lying down now, seems to be dozing a bit, hoping he will just from off despite the noise. He can usually sleep through anything!!

Feel so sorry for all the scared animals

One of DMs cats is an outdoor cat and has never even come inside the house (she was inherited when the neighbour died) and even she has come indoors and is hiding in the cat igloo!

I seriously don’t get peoples opposition to fireworks. I have two cats who I keep in for a few days. My toddler is terrified but I shut the curtains and turn the tv up. My
Toddler and I both have chest infections so I feel your pain, but it’s 8pm. Other people enjoyment should not be impacted by the fact I choose to have pets and a child.

Yanbu - organised displays on key dates are fine but fireworks at home, in built up areas and at random times are really not on. We’ve had constant fireworks round here since Diwali in mid-October. Our poor dog is petrified and it’s horrible to see. I wish they would ban the sale of them completely.

London Fire Brigade tweeted last night that they had already been called out to over 100 firework related fires - and that’s before this weekend’s peak in firework activity! What a waste of public resources.

I used to love fireworks before I had a dog. My evening has been spent trying to keep her calm as she’s barking and getting stressed with every bang, it’s a nightmare.
I hate this time of year now.

I know 8pm is early Strawberry and normally I wouldn’t care at all, but when DS is so ill it’s just winding me up more and more, I feel so so sorry for him he so tired and scared by them.

I wouldn’t ever do them in my own garden anyway but if I didn’t have DS and wanted see some fireworks and I knew my neighbours had small children, I really wouldn’t even consider doing them at home and would just go to a display instead. There’s a park literally up the road doing a free display right now.

Is gone a bit quiet next door to be fair so hoping that’s it for tonight!

I've just spent the last 3 hours out in the freezing cold (and I get cold in summer if I'm not careful) trying to reassure my two horses that the fireworks coming up from the field next-door aren't going to hurt them, besides their ears. Next-door know there is a livery yard here, they also have livestock of their own. They just don't care. Licenced displays only! No more selling what are basically bombs to the general public. It's ridiculous.
