To bloody hate fireworks??

So my 1 year old DS is so ill with a chest infection (as am I) and has just thrown his dinner and bottle up all over his bedroom floor and direct NDN are having their own mini fireworks display in their tiny back garden. DS’s bedroom is at the back of the house closest to their side and he obviously isn’t going to sleep for shit and is just screaming his little head off Angry

I know it’s not extremely late and they could go on until 11 if they really wanted to but they have kids of their own I would have expected to be in bed too by now and DP is 1 more firework away from going round there and shoving them where the sun don’t shine. I really don’t want to start neighbour wars as it’s all I bloody hear about at work, so if it comes to it I will have to go round and politely ask if they could stop now - they do seem like nice people so I’m sure they would.

My DM and DF also live up the road have 6 cats who are all scared stiff and have gone into hiding bless them!

But AIBU to think fireworks at home are so bloody inconsiderate??

FYI - I’m not prepared to be told IABU 😂

Sorry, it took so long to type my message that I've crossed posted with you! Glad he's asleep now Smile

VeganIan · 04/11/2017 21:25

I think organised displays only too - however I also watch those thinking what else could that money have been spent on.

Coconutspongexo · 04/11/2017 21:27

I’m always told I’m miserable because I hate fireworks, I don’t really mind proper displays .. because they’re nowhere near my house.

I don’t understand why people literally blow their money up makes no sense to me but each to their own.

Moreisnnogedag · 04/11/2017 21:31

@Honeyboo269

Do you happen to know if there is a set distance? I'm heading out to check on our sheep again (well specifically to see if the bolter is back wth the flock). If she's injured, I'll be calling the police.

NC1990 · 04/11/2017 21:50

I loathe the bloody things, mainly because I have spent the last 4 hours trying to keep my terrified dog calm. He is barking, drooling and pacing and I don't blame him, the bangs are horrendously loud. Fortunately the other dog isn't bothered or I would have downed a bottle of gin by now (well, if I wasn't pregnant).

The organised displays I can cope with, it's when close neighbours stagger their shitty back garden fireworks over 1-2 hours that it becomes infuriating. Would love if it they were banned tbh.

tigerdog · 04/11/2017 22:12

Same here NC1990. Right now someone in a near by garden has just let off a load of really loud fireworks. Fucking arseholes. It’s gone 10pm and the dog had finally settled but is now stressing all over again. Angry

ADishBestEatenCold · 04/11/2017 22:12

"Why Do They Have to Be So Loud? Grrrr. Double Grrr."

That's just it! They don't have to be! It is perfectly possible to buy 'quiet fireworks' and their visual display now more than rivals the conventional kind. (some places they must be quiet fireworks).

So why would anywhere/ anybody buy the frightening kind? Or is that the point? To frighten.

sweetkitty · 04/11/2017 22:18

I've got a shaking dog on my lap, hate hate hate it, what is the actual point? 😡😡😡

IFuckingHateFireworks · 04/11/2017 22:21

Just when I think it’s gone all quiet, some other arsehole nearby starts letting them off! Angry thankfully DS still asleep but I’m on eggshells feeling like he’s going to wake up any moment!

Why are so many so stupidly loud, like bombs going off? How is that enjoyable? I hate the way people don't think of the very young who may be frightened or trying to sleep. Agree with previous posters- keep them organised. Would lessen firework related injuries too.

wifeyhun · 04/11/2017 22:26

We had some fireworks earlier, a small selection box and a few rockets, but we had it at 6pm!!

There are still massive bangs going off now at this time of night, arseholes.

NC1990 · 04/11/2017 22:41

tigerdog we had a second round at 10.15 too, almost marched round in my dressing gown but thought better of it! Dog still barking. Wonderful. 😭

Bucketsandspoons · 04/11/2017 22:55

Moreis hope the ewe is ok.

QuestionableMouse · 05/11/2017 00:58

They've just stopped here. From 4:30 until 1am isn't a few hours.

JonSnowsWife · 05/11/2017 01:24

YNBU. DS has ASD and is absolutely terrified of them. I'm still up mumsnetting now trying to settle him (still going around here). I've brought him into my room for snuggles.

Have to be up stupidly early tomorrow for DD has to be somewhere as well.

I'm all for licensed displays too.

Hope your DS is better soon bless him. Flowers

IFuckingHateFireworks · 05/11/2017 03:43

Still hearing to odd bang around here, in the far distance though so not too bad - what fucking idiots they are though!

DS only managed a couple of hours sleep and has been awake for nearly 5 hours now...I’m slowly losing the will to live. I have tried absolutely everything and he just will not go back to sleep, I know he’s ill but it’s very unlike him! Sad

I feel for you OP, did he manage to sleep? It’s 5.30am and they’re STILL going off here. Do these people not sleep?!

JonSnowsWife · 05/11/2017 07:02

IFuckingHateFireworks DD and I are both asthmatic and regularly suffer from chest infections.

Both of us sleep better when ill if propped up. Don't know wqht the current advice is as mine are both older now but I always use to prop the cot up on one end with a book underneath each leg.

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 05/11/2017 07:10

There were fireworks continuously here from 5.30 til around 10.30 then a house party started up down the road until past 1am Angry

mydogisthebest · 05/11/2017 07:29

I used to love fireworks and DH and I had firework parties for quite a few years. We always had them on the right night though.

What I hate now is that they are so loud they sound like bombs going off and why can people not let them off on the right night?

We have been hearing them since Diwali. Of course there was Halloween although I don't see why people let fireworks off for that. Then Friday night (the 3rd November for God's sake) they started at 5pm. They were literally continuous until about 9.45. Then at 11.45 (bearing in mind it is against the law for fireworks to be let off after 11pm except bonfire night, new year etc) they started again. A neighbour across the road was letting them off and they were really loud. They finished at 11.55. I reported it to the police.

Yesterday obviously, again, not the correct day they started at 5.30 and went on until almost 10. Sounded like just about every person in my neighbourhood had them. At 11 they started again and ended at 11.20. I reported it to the police again.

As today is the correct day there will obviously be yet more tonight and I am willing to bet there will be more tomorrow and probably Tuesday.

Last year from Halloween they went on for 2 weeks every single night.

I am sick and tired of them. My dog although not terrified is not keen on them and stays in his crate the whole time they are going off. I know lots of people who cats and dogs are so scared they have to be tranquillised. This, although not ok, would not be too bad for 1 night but for weeks!

All of you who think home use should be banned should join the FAB firework group on facebook. They are trying to get fireworks banned for personal use. They have a log where you can put in the date and the times, also if you reported it to the police.

They have stories which are so sad. Dogs that have got out in fright and been run over. Horses that have jumped out of their field in panic and been hurt or killed. Wildlife must be terrified

WHAT UTTER UTTER CUNTS TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.
