To question the doctors diagnosis?

I changed my DS (2 years old) yesterday and noticed one single blister on his bum. I assumed it was where his nappy was rubbing. 12 hours later and his poor bum was covered in blisters.

I took him to the doctors this morning. Doc took one look and said chicken pox. He has no other spots anywhere on his body and even the nurse said he hadn't seen a case before where it was only on the bum. He took his temperature and it was normal. He sent me away saying not to give nurofen.

I've got home and looked and it again and I'm not so sure it is chicken pox. Has anyone had experience of the pox only being on the bum?

My DD who is 5 has never had chicken pox so no idea what to expect.

Look up pictures of water pox (Molluscum Contagiosum) and nappy rash. Is your kid teething? When one of mine was teething, her poo was runny and stringy and so acidic it took the skin off her bum and bits.

When I was a kid I had chicken pox but only only the back of my neck and upper shoulder area ... doctor said it was "the mildest case of chickenpox I've seen in my life". I don't suppose there's any reason you couldn't just get them on the bum, given that... but is a bit odd!

Its not molluscum as they don't come up quickly like that. Hand foot and mouth can present in the nappy area. Doesn't sound like chicken pox

It doesn’t look like regular chicken pox spots to me. My daughter was covered in them. I would possibly ask for a second opinion.

You can't really see by those pics by those spots are raised and blister like, some of them are weeping

Looks nothing like chicken pox to me. Although I am NOT a Doctor.

Any change to nappies or wipes?

I'd wash him with a flannel and warm water, avoid wipes and put that yellow nappy rash cream on.

I’d be tempted to use some Canestan and see if it goes away.

Doesn’t look like any chicken pox I’ve seen.

No changes to nappies or wipes. He did have bad nappy rash last week which I cleared up with that yellow metanium (spelling?) cream. When I saw that blister yesterday I put abit of that yellow cream on again but that's about it

I think it might be molloscum go back and get a 2nd opinion maybe?

Deffo another doctor then. That yellow cream clears up all sorts.

Does he have any other symptoms of chicken pox? My eldest got it very mild, just spots and some slight itching but you could spot it (haha!) a mile off.

Hope you get sorted.

When my kids had hand, foot and mouth, it always started with a horrible rash in the nappy area. The mouth blisters came a few days later. Unfortunately though, kids are horribly prone to rashes - it's often impossible to tell what's causing them.

I’d get another opinion, even pop him into the chemist and I’m sure a pharmacist would be happy to have a look.

Yes, I was going to suggest hand, foot and mouth too - google it and watch out for spots on hands/feet and ulcers in mouth (first sign for mine was drooling).

I would say no that looks nothing like chicken pox to me. It actually looks like it could be nappy rash or some sort of fungal infection. Mine got nappy rash that didn't look that unlike that when teething.

I also thought hand and foot and mouth but there are SO many different things that cause rashes....just ring up and ask for an appointment...specify that you've just been but want to see a different doctor.

They won't mind. People ask all the time.

That looks like the HFM blisters mine got.

But I’m not a doctor. Take him back if you’re not happy. Even if it is CP it’ll put your mind at rest. Just because they are professionals doesn’t mean they can’t make mistakes.
