Money Owed

I travelled with a friend to an event. They booked a well known chain for both of us but we paid for our rooms separately on our own cards.

I wasn't happy with my room as it was noisy at night and applied for a refund. The hotel agreed and refunded me £130, but I never got it.

I called them again and they said they have repaid it to the person that booked (my Friend).

This was nearly 8 weeks ago and my friend hasn't mentioned the refund even though we have met up a few times since the refund has been processed.

My friend knows that I complained but I have not mentioned to the friend that I think they have the cash as I was hoping that they would have noticed the £130 refund to their account.

Allowing for credit card statements to arrive etc. I am getting annoyed about this, especially as they know that I have asked for the refund and know that I have had some big emergency bills recently so could do with the cash.

Maybe she just hasnt realised? I think you should talk to her before you get cross about it.

MrsHass · 31/10/2017 14:29

Why on earth haven't you said to the friend that the money was refunded onto their card?

lurkingnotlurking · 31/10/2017 14:31

I could well not notice too. Tell her

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/10/2017 14:32

She probably hasn't realised. Why haven't you spoken to her?

Wellthatwasembarassing · 31/10/2017 14:33

Tbh don't think I'd have noticed either. I would definitely ask your friend and also say to the girl chain you payed so it should have gone back on to your card

Wellthatwasembarassing · 31/10/2017 14:34

Hotel * not girl chain

Cheeseontoastie · 31/10/2017 14:34

You need to mention it.

Well, there is that, but tbh the hotel's fucked up and paid money to the wrong person. They still owe you the money. Why should you have to chase her?

araiwa · 31/10/2017 14:37

i give up. jesus christ

thecolonelbumminganugget · 31/10/2017 14:40

You need to tell her, I check my current account a couple of times a week but will only look at my credit card once or twice a month.

WineAndTiramisu · 31/10/2017 14:40

I certainly wouldn't notice a refund onto my credit card, into my bank account I would, but not CC.

Why not ask her, rather than seething quietly for 8 weeks?

healthyheart · 31/10/2017 14:40

The hotel owe you. Not worth falling out with your friend over this. The hotel mucked up, their problem to correct.

apacketofcrisps · 31/10/2017 14:42

Are we missing something here? Why on Gods green earth would you not just bloody ASK HER

amymel2016 · 31/10/2017 14:44

She may not have noticed? I don't check my bank account that often and wouldn't notice it going in. Ask her.

steff13 · 31/10/2017 14:44

I guess technically the hotel needs to refund your card and take the money back from your friend's card. But it seems simpler to just as the friend for the money. I can't fathom that you've just waited for 8 weeks to see if your friend notices the credit added to her card balance.

GreenTulips · 31/10/2017 14:44

I wouldn't be notice either and rarely look at the CC statement ! Mention it

araiwa · 31/10/2017 14:44

After being told they refunded your friend, can you explain why you didnt call her to let her know?

afrikat · 31/10/2017 14:49

I hardly ever check my CC statement so wouldn't notice. Just ask her!

Glumglowworm · 31/10/2017 14:49

Ffs just ask her like a grown up! You could've avoided months of angst by just actually asking your friend!

Shoxfordian · 31/10/2017 14:50

Ask your friend!

thecatsthecats · 31/10/2017 14:51

My fiance managed to miss £600 of fraud on his cards as they came off when we were paying all of our mortgage fees, and it was a drop in the ocean.

Just ask her.

Ellendegeneres · 31/10/2017 14:52

Yeah you need to drop her a message or call her and say hotel refunded my money to you, can you transfer it over please.

This ones easy

NerrSnerr · 31/10/2017 14:58

Why haven’t you asked her?

StormTreader · 31/10/2017 14:59

Of course you ask her! She may have thought that the hotel just refunded both rooms and not realised that her refund was actually yours.
