Undercharged... WWYD and AIBU

Just got back from large chain shop. 40 min drive away.
I bought a large cream blanket which was folded and tied up with a thick ribbon. It had a large card 'tag' with a price sticker attached to it.
The only way of removing the tag was to untie the ribbons IYSWIM.

There was only one blanket in the shop and when I got home, I thought I'd quite like to order another so, I searched online using the barcode.

The barcode was for a £15 blanket and I paid £15. The on-line product search came up with a cheap looking thing - not the one I have.

I searched through the images and I actually have one that should have cost £85. My blanket has no label sewn on it but it's definitely the expensive one.

AIBU to just keep it and not say a word? I got it for £70 cheaper ffs!
It's not worth £85 in my opinion & there's no way I'd have paid that but even so... WWYD?

Honest mistake on your part and as far as you were aware, the price on the tag was correct.

I'd keep it definitely but it won't be long before someone comes along to tell you you are a terrible person, for me personally, it would make it even nicer to snuggle up to my bargain

Are you sure it wasn't a faulty/end of line or in store deal? I'd got with the price on the label tbh. It's not like they gave you the wrong change after paying cash.

TK Maxx by any chance? Many years ago I bought a complete birth to potty set of real nappies for £20, which when I went back a few days later in disbelief at my bargain to pick up a set for a friend, we're actually meant to be over £100. I didnt offer them the extra. Totally different if you're there doing a label switcheroo yourself, but this is their mistake

If it’s TK Max they do huge discounts. Otherwise it could just be a bargain stock clearance offer.

Designed No, the large card tag and barcode are for an entirely different blanket. It's even a different colour (no pics on tag).
Both are still for sale online.
All I can think is that a customer untied it at some point and the shop has tied the wrong ribbon/label on it when folding it back up?

I do love it... it's lovely but I can't afford to buy a second one.

large chain shops charge way more than its costs to manufacture, and they're no doubt totally immoral anyway, enjoy your cheap blanket!

it would be a whole different thing if it was an independant shops selling handmade blankets.

Just enjoy it, one of life's bonuses. Jon Lewis is hardly strapped for cash and you didn't buy it from an independent seller who needs support.

Mumsnet is a funny place, on one thread they're all getting on a lather cos some kid stole a few sweets from someone's house and on this one they're all like chilled - yeah sure, why not? Or maybe the morality police will be here soon!

It's not like you went out of your way to pay less for the item. You paid what the till told you to pay . Enjoy your bargain .

And before this thread takes off with posters that once bought a first class ticket back to Taiwan to repay the equivalent of 15p to a market stall trader, I'll just tell you that you should let it go and look forward to a warm winter.

Keep it! Huge difference between stealing something from someone's home knowingly (the sweets thread) and intending to purchase something honestly and it turning out to be cheaper than you expected.

Why not email John Lewis to let them know there blankets are labelled wrong and ask them if they would like you to return the item for a refund rather than pay the extra difference as it’s out of your budget. Put the decision in their hands as it’s their error

I have excellent morals, and I'd keep it. You paid in good faith, they made an error. End of story.

Wait for someone to come along and tell you how sorry they feel for your children being raised by a filthy felon like yourself though Wink

As a goodwill gesture you could tell the store their stock was wrongly labelled but I'd bet they'd tell you to keep it price sold, and if it's the only one it's not a mistake that will worry anyone. Different if a whole pile were mislabelled and if you went back to buy them all Grin
