What are your thoughts? Bit of a twat or perhaps very intelligent but also misguided in terms of his career and misunderstood? I'm on the fence tbh.

Twat

PerfectParisian · 07/10/2017 21:57

Fair enough Naze.

Love him! Agree with him on pretty much everything and always find him impressive on QT etc. I think his career went/is going pretty well tbh and certainly wouldn't describe him as misguided or misunderstood.

Marinade · 07/10/2017 21:59

I used to be very very intrigued by him and saw him during 2004 (I think) during a speaking tour he gave. It was at the South Bank and he was introduced by Ross Kemp, who was then married to Rebekah Wade. I found the the whole thing intriguing but ultimately Alistair Campbell was very very underwhelming. He just did not have the gravitas that I expected. He seemed to be astute, loyal and smart enough but really not the powerhouse of intellect that you might have assumed he would be.

Lanaorana2 · 07/10/2017 22:09

Hot. So hot no one could care what he says or does.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/10/2017 22:13

Hot but hard work

shivermytimbers · 07/10/2017 22:16

Twat

Wow Lana! 😳

A very interesting man who I have a lot of time for. I like the way he openly talks about his mental health problems, I like the way he actually listens.

I think he's very interesting, thoughtful and intelligent.

However I would never, ever have voted for Labour - old, new or Corbyn!

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 07/10/2017 22:22

I saw him speak at a conference in about 2006 and he came across as an enormous bellend - astoundingly arrogant in a very crass way. More recently I've been on the fence - I think some of the work he's been doing on mental health awareness is good and he is saying some sensible things on the current madness, but then again maybe he only seems reasonable because the rest of the world has gone totally batshit...

shivermytimbers · 07/10/2017 22:24

Why have people got time for a man who was up to his neck in lies trying to justify an illegal invasion, the consequences of which are still costing lives on a daily basis?
I don't think I could ever find a man who had so much blood on his hands 'hot'!

Longislandicetee · 07/10/2017 22:24

He is so impressive - incredibly astute and really smart. Also charming, which is the last word I would have used about him from his reputation!

shivermytimbers · 07/10/2017 22:25

And that's before I've even begin to think about the consequences of removing clause 4...

FastWindow · 07/10/2017 22:28

Makes me want to go and wash. Slimy, self serving, career politician.

Corcory · 07/10/2017 22:29

I'm not a labour voter but I do admire him for his frankness about his mental health problems. He is the cousin of a friend of mine and pops up on her FB page in family photos etc. She doesn't tell people as a rule that he's a relative so it's quite funny when other friends ask her why she has that 'twat' on her page!!

Darlingtonschooldays · 07/10/2017 22:30

Bit all over the shop and obsessed with publicity/drama but fuck all substantial underneath.

Belongs on talk shows and “Oxford debates” (the ones that aren’t actually about intellectual challenge but are run by the Oxford union, which ISN’T an official academic strand of Oxford University, more a “historic drinking and social club” thing which tries to get as many weird/ controversial people in as possible)

Very Blair years really.

Dapplegrey2 · 07/10/2017 22:30

Seriously scary and a bully.

PerfectParisian · 07/10/2017 22:44

Mmmm I'm on the fence between what Dapplegrey and Blingy are saying.

OP posts:
Marinade · 07/10/2017 22:52

Oh so you sit somewhere between him being very smart or a scary bully... Great how insightful and well informed... You know that the two are not mutually exclusive? Do you actually have your own opinion?

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 07/10/2017 22:54

Very intelligent AND a bit of a twat

The two things aren't mutually exclusive

TheScottishPlay · 07/10/2017 22:54

He plays the bagpipes and therefore unbearable to me.

ohpleasesleepbabysleep · 07/10/2017 22:56

Have spent time with him through work, one on one - very personable and surprisingly nice, in situations where he didn't need to be particularly. (That sounds a bit confusing, I just mean he went above and beyond in a professional situation where he wouldn't have been expected to do much more than be polite). Not in a fake 'I'm a smarmy politician type' way. Genuinely nice, and easy to spend time with. Obviously he induces lots of polarising opinions but that was my experience!

KC225 · 07/10/2017 23:00

Smug. Overrated and charmless

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 07/10/2017 23:01

Humm. Met him once and was then beating myself up for the rest of the day as I wanted to dislike him (for his politics) but instead I ended up behaving like a pathetic gibberish idiot in front of him as I was (completely unintentionally) mesmerised

PerfectParisian · 07/10/2017 23:04

Do you actually have your own opinion?

Can having several different opinions and ideas about someone count as an opinion, Marinade? If so, then yes, I have my own opinion.
