What are your thoughts? Bit of a twat or perhaps very intelligent but also misguided in terms of his career and misunderstood? I'm on the fence tbh.

I really warmed to him after that seminal Celebrity Apprentice featuring him, Rupert Everett, Trinny Woodall, Maureen Lipman and Cheryl Cole.

They were tasked with raising as much money for charity as possible and Trinny Woodall just made a few calls to some very rich friends and raised about £1 million and won.

There was a hilarious scene in a taxi with Alistair Campbell and Rupert Everett, where RE was mortified as the only reason he was on the show was to promote his book about all his celebrity friends, but none were returning his calls. AC just burst out laughing and said "They're not returning mine either!" It was very candid and very cool in the circumstances!

BriechonCheese · 08/10/2017 00:20

I don't know OP, it might be the Malcolm Tucker vibe. He's a gobshite for sure.

Shenanagins · 08/10/2017 00:21

Read his lovely tribute to Charles Kennedy and you will see another side. And then read some of the damming press reports once he left office. So both bully and a gentleman. 🤔

GretchenFranklin · 08/10/2017 00:37

I like him, he's aggressive though isn't he. He has strong views but then politics is a messy business and I doubt he is the biggest bully there.

Not a twat, no.

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/10/2017 01:23

Fabulously honest about mental health issues. He's my role model when people say depression stops you from holding down high pressure jobs. By all accounts devoted family man.
Hate his politics.
Nearest living Malcolm Tucker fantasy.

squoosh · 08/10/2017 01:37

Would shag him.

Our post-coital chat would involve bad mouthing all the cunts who voted for Brexit.

birdsdestiny · 08/10/2017 01:44

I like him a lot. Brilliant on Brexit. And for the utterly hilarious interview between him and Owen Jones. He won obviously.

SilverySurfer · 08/10/2017 01:58

Complete and utter twat.

PerfectParisian · 08/10/2017 08:19

Completely agree Grim. That's what I admire about him. I really like that he speaks out about things that he believes in (Brexit, mental health stigma etc., importance of learning languages), and that he doesn't seem afraid to call out people on things that they've said or done that he doesn't agree with.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, actually, as it's his politics that annoys me too. I think on a personal level, I quite like him, even if I do find him quite aggressive, but politically (in terms of his career in politics) I get pissed off about it. I wish he'd stop going on about Tony Blair Angry

Very charming, eloquent, speaks out about stuff I believe in, but it’s KINDA hard to get over the old dodgy dossier isn’t it?

MinervaSaidThar · 08/10/2017 08:48

What a vile thread. The man was complicit in the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Iraq, which led to the creation of Al Qaeda, ISIS apetc, and people here think he's hot and want to shag him.

People have short memories it seems. Fucking awful.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 08/10/2017 08:54

Dr Kelly is the other death he is highly implicated in.

PetalMettle · 08/10/2017 08:57

I’m with @lana and @brie. I know he’s done questionable things so feel a bit guilty about that, but I find him incredibly sexy and love him on Brexit and mental health. He’s in my top 3

ComingUpTrumps · 08/10/2017 09:04

Would be interested to know why posters find him attractive. Is it something to do with the fact that he seems quite charismatic? I respect certain things that he says (aside from his politics and the catastrophic decisions that he assisted in, and was supported in, making in Tony Blair's government), but wouldn't say that I find him attractive.

Pagwatch · 08/10/2017 09:09

I had always disliked him immensely but I find his open discussion of his own mental Heath issues and his constant narrative about destroying stigma , especially amongst men, to be admirable.

Charitygirl1 · 08/10/2017 09:09

The Iraq war led to the creation of Al Qaeda? I've heard it all now...how old are you?

Are you asking me that Charitygirl?

The thing is, when you see him being interviewed/taking part in discussions, it really doesn't take much for his nasty side to come out. He gets very irritated and insults start flying, quite quickly.

PerfectParisian · 08/10/2017 09:16

Also, all of these things that he was involved in - I'd be really interested to know why and how he felt justified in doing them. Did he do them out of loyalty to Tony Blair?

OP posts:
OnTheRise · 08/10/2017 09:25

When my children were in primary school they were taught a song which started, "Alice the camel has TWOOO humps, TWOOO humps, TWOO humps."

Ever since, whenever I heard Alistair Campbell's name there would be a tiny echo of "TWOOO humps" in my mind.

We now refer to him as TWOOO humps.

I think he's very intelligent, astute and analytical. Yes, the Blair government got things wrong. But that was only clear in hindsight, and I do think they were acting in good faith. Campbell is good.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 08/10/2017 09:28

Well, Tony thinks God told him to do certain things, maybe AC was taking direction from God too.

PetalMettle · 08/10/2017 09:48

@trumps - the charisma, the fact he’s a hard bastard which I find sexy....the Malcolm tucker thing someone else mentioned, the fact I find his insouciance funny and then it’s ramped up following his Brexit fight - I fancy james o brien for the same reason.

UterusUterusGhali · 08/10/2017 09:54

Fit but twat.

He's on my "list" Blush

Don't agree with this at all. I tend to watch a lot of discussions that he's on (purely coincidence of course Smile) and he is not easily riled at all. That's why he does so well on such shows. Came across clearly on QT after the election this year when that awful journalist was made to look a fool by him. Also when that man from Sky news nearly combusted after the 2010 election because GB hadn't moved out of No 10 and AC laughed at him. There's also a great interview with Mark Kermode where he fails to be offended by Kermode's childish accusations that all politicians are the same, liars etc.

He can be sharp of course, but not irritable.

We've obviously been watching/listening to, different things theduchess.
