Why the hell did i agree to petsit this cat??

So I've been seeing this chap for a few months, and he's due to go abroad for work this week for about a month. I agreed to petsit his cat as the cattery let him down and he's a bit stuck (we already have two but they're very friendly to other cats so thought it would be fine and I'd keep them separated for a while).

Cat came here Friday so have it in the kitchen with litter tray and I've never known a cat shit so much (normal poos) and the smell is unreal! I've had lots of cats but dear god never experienced this. Ah well can't be helped and cat send perfectly happy and friendly. Unfortunately One of my cats has disappeared since Saturday morning so I'm worried his nose has been put out of joint :-(

Anyway, when my chap brought the cat round all that came with was a third of a bag of Tesco value cat litter (I've already gone out and bought decent odour absorbing litter as the smell is so bad!) and NO food at all.

If it were me I'd have brought vast supplies with the cat. Last week i asked if he was up to date with flea treatment, i was told 'he's fine, no fleas' so i asked when was he last treated to be told a month ago so i said he was due another in that case. I was adamant about this after a previous flea infestation so I'm religious about trading my cats and have a flea free house. Anyway, he's ordered treatments to be delivered here but he clearly thought i was going overboard.

To top it off cat shat the carrier when he brought him over, when he phoned me last night i asked if the carrier was still outside, when he said it was i said 'well I'm not dealing with it' to which he replied 'oh just leave it outside till i get back and the rain will wash it'. I was at work and shattered and busy so didn't really register enough to respond.

I don't even want to continue seeing this guy, I've been a bit unsure for a while and after a crap shag saturday night and realising I'm not going to miss him at all when he's away i know there's no future but he jets off today so I'm going to deal with it when he gets back i guess.

I've just got to suck up having the cat as it's too late to do anything but WIBU to tell him I don't know what planet he's on that he thought it was ok to leave a shitty carrier in my back garden for a month and not leaving any supplies and that he's taking the piss?

I'm so cross with myself for agreeing to this!!

If he's booked with Monarch he'll not being going anywhere. Make sure you bill him for the food you feed the cat with. Be careful that he doesn't see this as a foot in the door because you looked after his cat. Hope your own cat returns soon.

Flowers for you.

Gramgram · 02/10/2017 09:16

Forgot to say, the cat is probably distressed hence the bowel movements.

AlternativeTentacle · 02/10/2017 09:16

take it back today and dump him. this is not worth your time and effort.

Whenwillitgeteasier · 02/10/2017 09:19

No not Monarch unfortunately! To make matters worse this chap has EATEN the banoffee tart I'd left in my fridge as a special post run treat for me today !! He stayed over sat night but i left before him as i had to get up super early. Who the fuck does that?? Before now he's gone on the cupboards and helped himself to crisps and rooted through my fridge. It's not that i mind him having things but i think it's horribly rude not to ask. But eating my special banoffee tart is beyond the pale!!

He's coming round at half ten to say goodbye and i want to kill him.

Tell him to collect the cat or you'll take it to him.

Cheeky fucker.

jaseyraex · 02/10/2017 09:20

I would honestly try and take the cat back to him before he goes and dump him. It's not your problem. The poor cat sounds distressed and your own cat is obviously unhappy too if he's done a runner for a few days. He is absolutely taking the piss and if you do keep the cat until he gets back, I'd be keeping total of how much you've spent on food etc for it and be demanding that money back. Poor cat with a shitty owner and poor you with a shitty boyfriend! Flowers

everymummy · 02/10/2017 09:21

If you feel this much resentment now just imagine how it's going to build.
There are tons of catteries, it's not even high season - he just wants to save money. I have cats and if I were going away I would get a neighbour to feed them or pay a service to do it.
Grab your chance NOW before he leaves.

Gottalovesummer · 02/10/2017 09:21

I seem to look after every pet going in my neighbourhood, and mostly I don't mind, but have had a couple of "why did I ever agree to this" moments

My advice is to honour your agreement as it's not poor kitty's fault, but definitely keep all receipts for food/litter and don't take no for an answer when you present to owner on his return

I'm sure your cat will return home after a little sulk Smile

Good luck and hope the new litter helps mask the smell!

gamerchick · 02/10/2017 09:25

Tell him he's forgot cat food before he comes over.

gamerchick · 02/10/2017 09:25

And another tart.

TheNoodlesIncident · 02/10/2017 09:32

Don't forget the smell of his cat's poo is in the back garden and that might deter your own cat from coming back.

I expect he won't put it in a cattery as ime catteries require your cat to have had jabs, anti-flea treatments, etc. Well, the decent ones will. And I don't expect he will have made sure his pet's inoculations are up to date, will he...?

Tell him he has to take it back. And replace your tart as well, the cheek!!

Clandestino · 02/10/2017 09:38

TBH, I love cats but I do believe that people need to come first (and their own pets too).
I don't think the cattery let him down, it must have been more the combination of the price + up-to-date jabs + anti-flea treatments that he saw you as the cheap -sucker- option who will help him.
He sounds like a parasite, get rid of him and make him take the cat and the dirty crate with you. If you are worried about the cat just being left on her own while he is on vacation, be ready to call the RSPCA and report him (and tell him you are going to do it).

Whenwillitgeteasier · 02/10/2017 09:41

I've messaged him to say one of the cats is missing and i think the smell of his cat's shit on the back garden is keeping him away so he needs to sort that. Asked him when his flight leaves and he's coming to see me en route to airport. FML nothing i can do really. This could be an interesting visit... I'm fuming

splendidisolation · 02/10/2017 09:43

Just fyi when my cat's poo smelled like death it was because she had worms the poor thing.

AlternativeTentacle · 02/10/2017 09:43

He can still arrange for someone else to come over or leave you money to get it into a cattery, it really needs sorting before he goes.

Hisnamesblaine · 02/10/2017 09:49

I hope to god you asked him to bring c.f. food with him cheeky bugger! And the fact he hasn't volunteered to clen the box is actually vile. Poor kitty......... and you obviously

guilty100 · 02/10/2017 09:53

I feel your pain, but I think you have only yourself to blame for this! All of the problems are pretty predictable, apart from your 'D'P not bringing enough food or litter, which is super cheeky. I don't think you can back out of something like this while the other person is on their way to the airport either - the reasonable time to have done it was a few days ago. Why on earth did you agree to this in the first place?!

eddielizzard · 02/10/2017 09:54

wow he's a cf isn't he??? i'd be telling him he's got to find someone else to petsit and they can come and fetch the cat. although he probably won't so i don't know what you'd do then...

Cupcakey · 02/10/2017 09:55

I've got a friends cat with us we've done a week one week left! The cat is sweet bless it but it could win an Olympic sport at shitting! It keeps trying to escape too! I think I will be white haired or bald by the time it's gone! My friend bought all the supplies needed though and I think your chap is down right cheeky! If you end up with the cat for a month make sure you invoice him for the costs! He would have to pay a cattery xx

seventeenlittleducks · 02/10/2017 09:56

Op make sure you get money off him for food and working treatment (I doubt it's been done). He's taking the piss expecting you do be out of pocket for his animal

seventeenlittleducks · 02/10/2017 09:57

Worming

ChicRock · 02/10/2017 09:57

Have you told him to being cat food, or money to give you so you can buy some?

FizzyGreenWater · 02/10/2017 09:58

GIVE HIM THE CAT BACK.

Your cat is probably hovering around waiting for interloper to be gone. In a month, your cat will have concluded she/he's no longer wanted and will have gone permanently :(

And he's a cheeky user. And you don't want to carry on with him so WHAT'S THE POINT?!

At the very least I would see if you can get the cat into a cattery so that you don't lose your own cat over it. You might have to vaccinate it though. Don't break up with him until you've managed to bill him for the vaccs, flea stuff and food. :)

FizzyGreenWater · 02/10/2017 09:59

Oh and tell him could he pplease bring a replacement bannoffee tart too.

What a prick.

SparklyMagpie · 02/10/2017 10:02

Nahh sorry i'd be phoning him now and telling him to get his fat and then dumping him... But that's just me haha
