Why does this feel so wrong?

AIBU to serve sweetcorn with sausage and mash? My 3yr old dd has suddenly decided that peas are the work of the devil and I'm making mini toad in the hole castles (individual yorkies filled with mash and sausages covered in gravy and peas. Usually). My head says serve sweetcorn instead of peas but my heart says it's really wrong. Thoughts, oh wise ones?

What? Of course you can serve sweetcorn. And also, you have just sorted out what we're having for sunday dinner Grin

NameChangeFamousFolk · 01/10/2017 12:40

You're fine. Sweetcorn be surprisingly versatile. Is it on the cob?

firawla · 01/10/2017 12:41

It should be fine? But what about carrots if not, as another alternative

2cats2many · 01/10/2017 12:41

I think it feels wrong because of the colour.

What about carrots?

dreamingaboutcheese · 01/10/2017 12:44

It's yum! But I'm worried it's all the same colour and I'm sure my home ec teacher at school once told me you shouldn't serve food that's the same colour... It that really a thing or was she weird?

You can't make hedgehogs with carrots though... You know when you put mash on the back of your fork and then dunk it in the peas (or sweetcorn) to make spines... I may be over thinking this though...

namechange no, tinned... Sorry Blush

Sweetcorn and gravy feels completely wrong to me.

MrsMotherHen · 01/10/2017 12:58

i wish my toddler would eat that kind of food. He thinks potato in any other forj than chips is the work of the devil.

DontCallMeBaby · 01/10/2017 12:58

Sweet corn is wrong ... but 3yo? All bets are off. DD used to spurn gravy in favour of ketchup with a roast at that age.

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/10/2017 13:00

We have sweetcorn with Sunday roast and yes I do realise how wrong that is Blush

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2017 13:01

Sweetcorn is too starchy. I'd go for broccoli.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2017 13:02

And yes, plates of food should have different colours.

usersos · 01/10/2017 13:03

I wish I had the time or inclination to worry about such things!

lornathewizzard · 01/10/2017 13:04

If your sweetcorn is the same course as your sausages and mash then something is off...

lornathewizzard · 01/10/2017 13:04

**colour not course!

KurriKurri · 01/10/2017 13:13

Sweetcorn is fine, it's nice in gravy (assuming you mean the tinned or frozen kernels not the whole cob). Again I am stealing your dinner idea (although I have no sweetcorn so it will have to be peas Grin)

AlternativeTentacle · 01/10/2017 13:17

Unless your potatoes are yellow, in which case the issue isn't that you are serving sweetcorn with sausages and mash...

Sausages = brown
mash = white
sweetcorn = yellow.

No problem.

strongasmeringue · 01/10/2017 13:18

The only thing wrong is you calling Yorkshire Puddings yorkies and for not having enough confidence to know there are no food rules.

CoughLaughFart · 01/10/2017 13:19

And yes, plates of food should have different colours

She's feeding a three year-old, not trying to win Masterchef.

strongasmeringue · 01/10/2017 13:21

We just had gammon, dauphinois potatoes, roasted carrots, parsnips, petit pois, sweet corn, homemade Yorkshire puddings and gravy. As usual DS had mint sauce. He always does, whatever the meat. It's food, all tasty and I'm pretty sure we didn't break any rules.

GerdaLovesLili · 01/10/2017 13:23

It's fine. It's all fine. It's relatively healthy if it's not all the 3yo is eating. And if the 3yo is prepared to eat it then let them.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/10/2017 13:24

What time should I be there for?

(Veggie sausages please 😊).

Corn, carrots, mini trees, zucchini ...all fine.

bluit · 01/10/2017 13:27

DD had a boyfriend who only ate brown food. In all it's many shades.

Sweetcorn scared him.

PinkHeart5913 · 01/10/2017 13:30

Sweetcorn & gravy is wrong, the two should never meet

Use carrots?
