AIBU to think the singing of the Jeremy Corbyn song was quite sweet

I was quite moved to hear all those Labour Party faithfulls singing that ode to Jeremy Corbyn. I bet Teresa May is wishing she inspired half that devotion from her party faithful.

I don't think idol worship has a place in politics.

pilates · 28/09/2017 18:36

It made me want to puke tbh. I have to switch over when I see his face.

whatdidImiss · 28/09/2017 18:41

Load of muppets

UrsulaPandress · 28/09/2017 18:44

It's like watching a very very slow car crash.

Hefzi · 28/09/2017 18:50

The cult of personality is very Maoist. To give Mr Corbyn his due, in an interview screened yesterday on Sky, he has said he's not a fan of the singing and finds it embarrassing.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 28/09/2017 18:58

I didn't like it. Not because I don't like JC - he's OK but I'm not a paid up Momentum card carrying fangirl.

The reason why I didn't like it, is because it demonstrates the real cult of personality that surrounds JC, which is not a good thing. The obsessive "if you're not with us you're against us" belief is dangerous. The whole point of democracy is that your actions should be scrutinised and held to account. I applaud Labour's efforts in keeping the Tories on their toes about what they're doing to the NHS and social care budgets etc. But that doesn't mean that Labour and JC's actions should be exempt from the same scrutiny.

For example I am deeply uncomfortable that JC does not seem to be truly committed to routing out antisemitism in his party. The platitudes about racism being unacceptable ring rather hollow when you look at the fact that he was absent from the Labour Friends of Israel meeting. Given all of the very real problems his party has had with antisemitism, why would you skip it?

Am abroad missed it. Is it on you tube, tv links don't work here.

Thanks. Then I'll hide behind the sofa and watch between my fingers lol.

thatdearoctopus · 28/09/2017 19:07

It strikes me as similar to those gormless idiots who chant, "Oggy, oggy, oggy."

I mean, why? Just why?

eyebrowseyebrows · 28/09/2017 19:12

I loved it. For once in my life, politics feels exciting and relevant to me.

^ I agree with this. I don't think it's a personality cult, people are just excited to have a party leader they actually believe in and that doesn't happen often in any party.

SerfTerf · 28/09/2017 19:14

Second half of this dora bit the sound isn't great.

Creepy as fuck and bleurgh.

Valentine2 · 28/09/2017 19:29

I said it's mainly youth and they are supposed to be more energetic than us. Besides, their choice, isn't it? Call it creepy if you like, they have the vote they will cast too.

Longdistance · 28/09/2017 19:33

Don't the communists have songs for their leaders.

Btw, my dps came from a communist country. Couldn't think of anything worse. Communism doesn't work, it's bollocks!

Fekko · 28/09/2017 19:37

I found politics exciting and relevant when I was a student. Rallies, marches, protests, a bit of chanting. Do you really need a theme tune?

UnicornRainbowColours · 28/09/2017 19:41

It's a joke, just like the Labour Party.

Auntiedahlia · 28/09/2017 19:41

Corbyn is a useful figurehead for Momentum.

Ugh. Yes, YABU.

Fekko · 28/09/2017 19:46

He does a good PA eye roll and grizzle though when he doesn't like an interviewers question.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/09/2017 19:47

There a weird personality cult growing around this man and he seems to begun to believe it.

It's worrying.

Tainbri · 28/09/2017 19:49

It's scary, culty, red revolution - turned me the other way to be honest.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 28/09/2017 19:49

I like Corbyn. I like most (not all) of his policies and I voted for him in the last election and hope to get the chance to do so again. BUT I find the singing creepy, and feel suspicious of Momentum. Admittedly I may be biased against moment as there is someone I am facebook friends with who is an absolute twat and spends most of his time aggressively posting on momentums behalf/attacking the social media pages of labour mps who don't support the Leaders agenda. I worry antics like that will put members of the wider public of. Of course, that doesn't mean all members of Momentum are entitled Brocialists...

PoppyPopcorn · 28/09/2017 19:51

One line chanted over and over by a bunch of idiots isn't "singing". It's at best toe-curlingly awful, at worst fucking creepy.

Personality cult is about right - all the swivel eyed hard left wingers are throwing everything they can at this man who has neither the skills nor personality to lead a Scout troop never mind the country.

Quite sweet my arse.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 28/09/2017 19:53

Oh yes, also said member of momentum considers himself a feminist but is in reality a mysogynistic, cocklodging fuckwit.

housess · 28/09/2017 19:53

I had to turn it off. It's horrible.
