Ribrabrob · 14/09/2017 19:15

I made a peanut butter sandwich and put a layer of normal dairy butter on first, as I always do, but then it got me thinking as to whether this is the done thing! Shock

Am I bu and breaking some kind of rule for having both butter and peanut butter?!

I love butter and peanut butter.

dementedpixie · 14/09/2017 19:17

I would use both too

RonSwansonsMoustache · 14/09/2017 19:17

I use both too, the peanut butter sticks to my mouth otherwise!

Crumbs1 · 14/09/2017 19:17

Can't stand the stodginess of peanut butter but my husband loves sandwiches spread one slice with peanut butter and other slice spread with marmite. Definitely no butter.

AlternativeTentacle · 14/09/2017 19:19

Yes you are breaking a rule, but it is a rule that is glorious when you break it.

Jumble27 · 14/09/2017 19:20

Butter is bread lubrication, the sandwich is too dry without it!!

And now I want a peanut butter sandwich...

StatelessPrincess · 14/09/2017 19:21

I think its grim but my brother likes it with butter. He thinks its grim that I spread peanut butter on baking chocolate (its amazing!)

Dragonfree · 14/09/2017 19:21

I had exactly the same thought a few years ago and so stopped using butter. Never noticed the difference in taste, though spreading it is different (depending how warm the peanut butter is).

My DH just thinks I'm weird and continues to double-butter. Smile

ethelfleda · 14/09/2017 19:22

YANBU!!

Peanut butter on toast is one of my favourite snacks... and I have to use butter as well. Actual butter, not 'spread'

Mmmmmmm

moreismore · 14/09/2017 19:22

YANBU

SlackerMum1 · 14/09/2017 19:22

Butter is vital - peanut butter is too sticky without it!

peachybeachy · 14/09/2017 19:23

Peanut butter and dairylea spread is the lushest. yes with butter

Joinourclub · 14/09/2017 19:24

I have both on toast. Peanut butter ISN'T butter!

Homemadeapplepie · 14/09/2017 19:24

I think YABU for eating peanut butter on bread, it's far too claggy- IMO the only way to eat peanut butter is between two giant chocolate buttons.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 14/09/2017 19:25

YABVU and I feel sick.

Kursk · 14/09/2017 19:27

My dad always uses marmite rather than the extra butter

MoodyOne · 14/09/2017 19:28

You need butter on first to 'ungloop' it ☺️

widowtocricket · 14/09/2017 19:28

I used to do both until I got one of those NHS leaflets from change 4 life through the door. It said by cutting the butter you save lots of calories. So I stopped. Now I like just using peanut butter because I'm lazy!

Purplemac · 14/09/2017 19:29

Add butter to everything including peanut butter.

reup · 14/09/2017 19:32

If you don't use butter the peanut butter can tear the bread as it spreads. Its ok butter free on toast because the heat melts it slightly.

It doesn't actually contain butter so it's not like it involves 2 lots of butter.

Like most of mumsnet there's all these weird rules/what you must do being espoused that I've never come across in real life despite being over 50.

reup · 14/09/2017 19:34

I made my own peanut butter - it was amazing and so simple. Just put salted peanuts in a blender (like a magimix) and press the button. No extra oil or anything unless you want to make it a different flavour. It goes powdery first and you never think it's going to blend then it does and its lovely - nicer than any I've bought.

AdalindSchade · 14/09/2017 19:36

Peanut butter isn't butter so it's not double butter!
Of course you need butter on it, otherwise it goes dry and claggy (i buy expensive pnb that can go dry like meridian, if you buy the cheap creamy stuff it probably doesn't do much)

MuchBenham · 14/09/2017 19:37

Yes I do that or it's too claggy. As a kid I used to do peanut butter a d dairylea sandwiches, they were quite nice as I recall!
