Ribrabrob · 14/09/2017 19:15

I made a peanut butter sandwich and put a layer of normal dairy butter on first, as I always do, but then it got me thinking as to whether this is the done thing! Shock

Am I bu and breaking some kind of rule for having both butter and peanut butter?!

Butter is essential. It's too clay without. But I had a friend who felt strongly that butter was uncalled for. Better still, add a banana. Or ditch the bread and butter and spread the pb directly onto the banana.

ProfessorCat · 14/09/2017 19:43

You are all being unreasonable because the bread should be spread with Nutella, not butter. Then the peanut butter.

MuchBenham · 14/09/2017 19:46

That sounds like a good combo Prof

PutThatPomBearBack · 14/09/2017 19:47

YABU to not add marmite.

TizzyDongue · 14/09/2017 19:48

It's not unreasonable, it's essential.

gillybombilly · 14/09/2017 19:49

Sounds delicious to me, and I always add Marmite when I'm putting it on toast.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 14/09/2017 19:50

Butter and PB? No, oh no no, not for me.
I do however put butter on a bacon sandwich which I'm told is not the done thing, also put mayo on rather than ketchup so I'm a bit maverick.

misscockerspaniel · 14/09/2017 19:51

YABU, you forgot the jam!

Ttbb · 14/09/2017 19:52

I hated peanut butter (too dry) until I saw a friend's father do this-changed my life forever!

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2017 19:58

YABU.
Butter or spread, unless it's honey.

ProfessorCat · 14/09/2017 19:58

@MikeUniformMike

But honey and butter are the BEST

PinkHeart5913 · 14/09/2017 20:08

I always but butter with peanut butter unless I am having jam & peanut butter

lljkk · 14/09/2017 20:08

I can't cope with the British obsession to put real or fake butter on every slice of bread in a sandwich. Even when it's frickin' mayo, you still put marg first!! just NO. You can do this. A Sandwich can exist without fake/real butter in it.

fullofhope03 · 14/09/2017 20:09

You are being VVU. No addition of butter - However, if you feel that you need something extra try this - peanut butter (only crunchy allowed), sliced cucumber, very thinly sliced extra mature cheddar, a tiny squirt of salad cream and a liberal sprinkling of crushed Hoola Hoops (only Ready Salted). Nectar of the Gods. You're welcome Grin

GodIsDead · 14/09/2017 20:09

It sounds bizarre but I'm going to have to try it.

Kailoer · 14/09/2017 20:11

Yabu

Pure PB or nothing!

Unihorn · 14/09/2017 20:11

My husband has butter and peanut butter, I think it's weird. Unfortunately he took the same approach when making me chocolate spread on toast and I was nearly sick. Chocolate spread and butter DO NOT GO TOGETHER.

diddl · 14/09/2017 20:11

Butter?

Shouldn't it be jam?

Think I'll be trying PB & chocolate spread!

Does it taste like a Reese's at allGrin?

NorksAkimbo72 · 14/09/2017 20:12

lljkk I am so with you!!!! The first time my MIL made me a sandwich ( naice ham and cheese) I actually gagged...didn't expect a slather of marg!!! Bleurgh! Butter and peanut butter...no. Just no.

90skid · 14/09/2017 20:13

Lashings of both, especially on toast. Devine!

lljkk · 14/09/2017 20:15

with NorksAkimbo.

Hassled · 14/09/2017 20:17

I hate butter - it's fine "cooked" (garlic bread is pushing things though) but give me a sandwich with butter, cheese, pickle, ham, mustard, and gherkins and all I will taste is the butter. It's a pain in the arse. I was at some training thingy today and there was a sandwich lunch - except to me it was a butter lunch, and I nibbled some stale Ready Salted.

Anyway - my point is you're very wrong, and peanut butter should only ever go with jam. Or bacon.

TizzyDongue · 14/09/2017 20:21

Marg in sandwiches is foul. Really foul.

Butter is wrong too, but has a handful of exceptions: hot sandwiches, and peanut butter.

badbadhusky · 14/09/2017 20:24

A Sandwich can exist without fake/real butter in it.

This is true in the same way that you can survive without food for quite a while, so long as you keep drinking water. You can have bread/toast and PB without butter, but why would you if butter is available?
