DH is out for work drinks & dinner tonight. I love him but I am delighted. I intend to put DS to bed, eat a fish finger sandwich for dinner and read my book watch shite TV

According to my colleague this is weird and loving couples shouldn't want to spend the evening apart ever Hmm

Surely I am not BU?!?!

Nope! Your night sounds like heaven!

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 08/09/2017 13:03

Your colleague is the weird one!

tiggerbounce77 · 08/09/2017 13:04

Sounds like bliss to me, enjoy

rubybleu · 08/09/2017 13:05

Nope. My husband goes away for a week quarterly with work & always leaves on a Saturday (long haul flight). I relish the first weekend he's away - no social engagements, just hard core solitude at home!

TheScottishPlay · 08/09/2017 13:06

Bliss. I love it when DH is out! Xx

bookbook · 08/09/2017 13:06

sounds good! my DH out tonight also.
Will watch rubbish tv, eat chocolate which I won't have to share , and crotchet

Viewofhedges · 08/09/2017 13:06

I think it sounds healthy! When DH and I are apart we both eat food the other one doesn't like and watch TV or films the other one would not be keen on etc. It reminds us that we're individuals. I think your friend is weird.

MarmiteAndPB · 08/09/2017 13:07

YANBU.

Surely everyone can appreciate some time to themselves without being deemed "unloving" or having their relationship called into question? It's none of her business to comment on the dynamic between you and your DH. I love having the house to myself, and so does my DH Grin

mygorgeousmilo · 08/09/2017 13:08

Not weird. I think it's more weird when people can't bear to be apart, and have all kinds of codependent and controlling shit going on. My (very lovely) husband is going out on Monday and I'm already looking forward to it!

HubrisComicGhoul · 08/09/2017 13:08

God, I love DP dearly and really enjoy the time we spend together, but I need the night or two a week I get to be alone. I would genuinely be a horrible person to live with if I didn't get it.

I'm sure there are people out there that dislike separation, but I just don't understand them!

ThymeLordIsSpartacus · 08/09/2017 13:09

Couldn't possibly be more reasonable. I love it when he's out, and I equally love it when i'm out. Plus he makes me egg on toast when I get home pissed up.

Aebj · 08/09/2017 13:09

Your friend is weird but I am used to being by myself with the kids.I love it!!! Dh is forces so we spend 9 months apart!!! Fish finger sandwiches sound perfect 😃

Kronutpearl · 08/09/2017 13:09

Thank you!

When I mentioned he was going out in passing she said "oh no won't you miss him?"

I said no and outlined my reasons namely fishfinger sarnie and shite tv and she said "I think that's really weird when you're in a loving relationship. I always want to see my DH."

As the cliche goes distance makes the heart fonder. I always look forward to my DH returning from his week long work trips having enjoyed some me time.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 08/09/2017 13:14

I love dp being on Kate's, I get to watch crap with no judgement. He likes it when I'm out, he can watch sport etc without me moaning about it.
I think spending time apart is healthy in a relationship.

Longdistance · 08/09/2017 13:14

I'm glad when Dh goes away for work and out.

We don't live in each other's pockets. And that's the way we like it.

DrHorribletookmycherry · 08/09/2017 13:14

Oh god no. I love a night to myself! Ypur colleague is wrong and emotionally immature - healthy relationships have and want time and space for individuals as well as time together.
It might be unwise to mention that though. Grin

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 08/09/2017 13:14

Bliss.

MusicToMyEars800 · 08/09/2017 13:14

I love it when my DP goes out, I can watch whatever crap on tv that he won't watch, I enjoy food he won't eat and sometimes have some Wine
I think we'd end up trying to kill each other if we spent every waking moment together Grin

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 08/09/2017 13:15

lates I love it when dp is on lates, don't think I'd be too happy about him being on Kate's

stressedbeyond123 · 08/09/2017 13:16

I LOVE DH going out.....when DD is in bed, its just me, chilling, reading my book and generally doing what the hell i want without having to talk to anyone....until he comes home drunk, but that's another story lol

ThymeLordIsSpartacus · 08/09/2017 13:16

Was going to ask keep, does Kate not mind? Grin

thecatsthecats · 08/09/2017 13:18

I was alone in our large open plan office during the holidays, and people from other rooms kept 'popping in to see if I was lonely' - leave me alone, it's heaven!

TBF, I judge/feel sorry for people right back if they can't spend five minutes alone with their own company. I mean, how bad must your headspace be, if you can't bear to be alone with it?

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 08/09/2017 13:18

Bloody phone. Tbh, sometimes I think I wouldn't mind for a bit of peace and quiet.
Don't know what Kate thinks though.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 08/09/2017 13:25

Ooh I lurrrrve it when dh goes out and I have the house to myself once dd is in bed.

Is your colleague the type of person who has a cutesy nickname for her dp, by any wunny or such shite?
