Is it secre-terry or sec-ret-tree?

OP posts:
Shoxfordian · 07/09/2017 14:43

The first one

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 07/09/2017 14:43

secre tairy

Minniemarshmallows · 07/09/2017 14:43

Secr terry

Familyof3or4 · 07/09/2017 14:44

First one. Heard lots of people say sec-et-erry and miss the first 'r' sound which I hate.

PollyFlint · 07/09/2017 14:44

I say it the first way - both ways are equally correct though.

knittingteapot · 07/09/2017 14:44

I think for me it depends where in a sentence I say it, and who I'm talking to.

How would you say 'cutlery'?

'Cuttle-ree' or 'cut-le-ree'?

eslindanunez · 07/09/2017 14:44

I've always pronounced it the first way but the posh doctors at work seem to say it the second way

OP posts:
Minniemarshmallows · 07/09/2017 14:45

Cut le rey

blueskyinmarch · 07/09/2017 14:48

I pronounce it sort of sec-ri-tray. Scottish if that makes a difference. Cutlery would be cut-li-ray.

TheNaze73 · 07/09/2017 14:49

The first one

eslindanunez · 07/09/2017 14:49

Cut-le-ree but I think there's only one correct pronunciation of that?

OP posts:
OlderGolder · 07/09/2017 14:50

SEKriterry

TizzyDongue · 07/09/2017 14:54

Got myself in a muddle - read the first and thought 'yep - that one; read the second and thought 'oh no, may be that one".

Possibly both. Or the one in the middle ...

Katedotness1963 · 07/09/2017 14:56

Sec-ri-tree

UterusUterusGhali · 07/09/2017 14:56

The first one.

I've heard sec-u-tary and cuttle-ree before tho.

NicolasFlamel · 07/09/2017 14:58

sec-re-tary but sometimes when I'm being lazy it comes out like sec-u-tary which is horrible.
cutle-ree makes me feel a bit icky.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/09/2017 15:00

Sek-re-tree

amusedbush · 07/09/2017 15:00

I pronounce it sort of sec-ri-tray. Scottish if that makes a difference.

Same here.

Namechangetempissue · 07/09/2017 15:00

Sec-re-tairy and Cut-le-ree here.

knittingteapot · 07/09/2017 15:01

My OH and his dad says 'cuttle-ree' and it drives me nuts Grin I've never heard anyone else ever say it.

'Fuss-tration' or 'fruss-tration'?
Love your thread... Can you tell?!

TizzyDongue · 07/09/2017 15:02

Sec-ri-tree / Sek-re-tree

^ this way i think

Fauchelevent · 07/09/2017 15:02

Sec-ret-erry but i think i would describe someone has "the home sec-ret-ry"

Hillarious · 07/09/2017 15:02

Either sekrəteri or sekrətri is okay, but I use sekrətri. I'm northern, if that makes any difference, and we do have posh people up north, and what's more I am a secretary.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 07/09/2017 15:05

1st one and cut-leryy

Bubwiser · 07/09/2017 15:06

I just realised I pronounce it both ways, depending on how lazy my tongue was feeling at that moment Confused
