To put heating on first week of September?

I've caved in and put heating on I'm bloody freezing! My DP will only moan (tight fisted Yorkshire man)
Anyone else got their heating on already? I would have put it on in late August!

The only month i have managed not to put mine on at all was August. It has been cold here in the east of Scotland. I popped mine on for an hour last night as we were sitting watching TV and it felt very chilly. At this time of year you only need it on briefly to take the chill off. You wouldn't need it on all day.

Mine was on yesterday. It's cold and I have a 6 month old so want some warmth in the house.

I lit our wood burner last night.

I nearly lit the stove last night as it was so cold and wet, but just put a jumper on instead (..and a fleece waistcoat!).
Cheer up, it's a bit warmer this morning - 16 degrees here in the south west.
What is it with men and heat? My oh regularly moans that it's too hot in the winter, and when I put another log on the logburner I get an old fashioned look and a lot of exaggerated 'phew'ing and flapping of clothing. I find it so annoying.

YANBU. We have been putting ours on for a hour in the evenings all through August. No, we don't live in the north, but in an old stone cottage surrounded by trees, so quite dark. Even when it's 25 degrees plus outside it's never more than 19 inside.

My house is an old build as well. It's 12 degrees out but imagine it was colder last night! Brrr chilly willy!

I think this no heating thing is bred into us up here in Yorkshire. We won't entertain the heating being on for a good while yet- wasn't massively warm last night but the heating wouldn't come on unless I turned the dial to 22 so it can't have been that chilly, I must have just been having a cold night! I usually just stick a jumper on or get in the bath haha!

We had to last night. I was starting to feel sick from being so cold and jumpers, blankets, and hot water bottles weren't cutting it.

I had mine on a handful of times in August this year. We haven't even really had a summer. A few hot days in July but that's about it...

My heating has been on for a month.

I've had mine on in August (in Yorkshire). If you're cold, you're cold! My fingers went white yesterday.

I put it on for 20 mins last night, we'd been out all day and were wet and cold to the bone. I still felt guilty about it

Blimey. I'm in London, it's only a slight exaggeration to say I would have the air conditioning on, if only I had air conditioning. Even with the window slightly open, overcast sky and overnight rain, and the heating definitely off, it's very warm in my flat. Thermometer on my desk says 25.2 degrees Celsius.

yanbu - in our house if we think its cold the heating goes on, regardless of what month it is. I find it odd when people feel guilty for having the heating on, id rather cut back on other things if i had to

I live in the North West it's was miserable yesterday but it's been warm for the past few weeks have still bee sleeping with the window open.

Also in London. Yesterday evening was the first time I shut my upstairs windows for the first time since May.

As an aside, my grandmother always used the expression 'chilly willy' when it was cold outside. Used to make my siblings and I collapse with laughter. It is funny to see it written down!

Not putting mine on, kept the heating off until October last year, aiming for November this year unless it snows then I might relent I'd rather be too cold than too hot.

We are east of England and not had any heating on since May. Snuggles on the sofa with a blanket!

Mine is on a thermostat and timer. If it gets colder than the set temperature during the set hours, the heating will come on, even if it's July.

I have mine on all the time, but it will only switch on the heating if it gets below 16C.

Mine is never switched off but is on a timer and thermostat so if it's colder than about 16 degrees at the minute then it will go on (only during the timer hours though.

Zen1 it's an expression that makes me smile as well!
I know they say it every year but apparently we are in for a cold one this winter!
