Glad to hear AP ending referring to alt right.

Let's call them Nazis or fascists. Or maybe white supremacists.

Too many people think alt right = right. Fools.

sheeela · 16/08/2017 19:08

Wonder how much Trump's support for the far right is calculated on the fact that he can see the net closing rapidly and has figured that the only thing left to him is to get support of violent, armed thugs, and aim for a coup?

Hope not, for America's sake. :(

I hope not a coup, but I'm sure you're right on the first part.

Senator Graham (Republican) has spoken out against Trump, let's hope other Republicans keep doing the same.

Love this

CaveMum · 16/08/2017 19:16

As for what to refer to the "alt-right" as, my thoughts are that If you walk alongside people wearing Swastikas and giving a one handed salute whilst chanting "Heil Trump" I'm going to call you a Nazi, because if you're not against them you are with them.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 16/08/2017 19:18

cozie normalisation in that this could have been the rock bottom moment where the GOP rejected trump (there have been others - access Hollywood tape, mocking disabled reporter etc etc) but now this is another thing that will be a
source of concern and misgivings but ultimately will be tolerated and accepted.

I can't work out when they're going to ditch him. Lower poll ratings? (Getting there already). Legislature unable to pass? (Already there). When we're all fried to a radioactive crisp?

Or is that they're either hoping that
enough Americans don't care about this shit and will still vote for them or
that they're going to gerrymander and vote suppress their way to permanent power? I'd love to know how they envisage this playing out

cozietoesie · 16/08/2017 19:20

Ah. I see what you meant, Pain.

As to your questions? I think they've stopped thinking. They're just reacting now.

cozietoesie · 16/08/2017 19:24

In other words - they haven't a clue what to do. This whole situation is so outside their modus vivendi, that they're frozen.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/08/2017 19:25

Tweet from Trump's lawyer (who also feels a need to post pics of his black friends)
To paraphrase Michael Moore - yes it fucking does!

As the son of a holocaust survivor, I have no tolerance for #racism. Just because I support @POTUS @realDonaldTrump doesn't make me a racist

Did his lawyer just call out Scrotus as being a racist? Why else would you have to say that support for a particular person doesn't make you a racist, unless the person in question was a racist?

cozietoesie · 16/08/2017 19:26

I would say so. Wink

TheNorthWestPawsage · 16/08/2017 19:30

Reading Cozies link to the Beast piece about the Dems targeting middle America - it seems to me they also need to talk to potential undecided voters in language that they can relate to. It may mean diluting their message but, as we all know, politicians can be a tad economical with the truth and they do need to be seen as more 'centre-ground' to some wavering Republicans. (As a paid-up Labour supporter I can't believe I'm advocating that Grin)

Maybe Pence is returning cos Trump is stepping down?! Shock

ok, that's fantasy land I know and Pence would be awful, just less insane.

cozietoesie · 16/08/2017 19:38

It's a large team, Pain.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 16/08/2017 19:39

It fleetingly occurred to me too oybbk but I fear it's the desperate imaginings of a despairing mind

cricketballs · 16/08/2017 19:39

Pathetic man

He tweeted he was disbanding the Manufacting Council AFTER they had phoned him to say they were disbanding it.

I bet that hurt and he had to get his tweet out quick

orlantina · 16/08/2017 20:50

It's interesting to see that people like Kelly Anne who often retweet Trump haven't tweeted for a few days...

InigoTaran · 16/08/2017 21:01

Been watching tv shows about the Partition of India, wonder if America will eventually have to go down that route. Don't know how they will be able to come back from this...

cozietoesie · 16/08/2017 21:08

I still smell a Constitutional Convention up ahead.
