To ask if anyone can help us find our dog?

Our dog (Wilbur, 11 month old English Pointer) has been missing in the New Forest area for coming up to 4 hours. We have scoured the area, called the dog warden (only works Mon-Fri) and local vets again most are closed. Also tried local shelters but these too are closed as it's the weekend. Have called micro chip company but they are also bloody closed.

We are beside ourselves with panic - this is not normal behaviour for our dog and we drove about 20 mins from home so there is little to no chance of him finding his way back. He was wearing his house collar and we completely forgot to put on his walking one which has his tag so no phone number or address on him - we are obviously kicking ourselves.

Just so worried that he has been taken, is injured and facing spending the night in the cold alone, he's a really clingy loving dog. My other half is still out looking for him and I'm trying to think of any way that we can get this out onto social media in case someone has picked him up.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Is he on Dog Lost?

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2017 18:56

Have you got a local FB Spotted page? Post a picture on there.

Paddingtonthebear · 12/08/2017 18:56

Are you on Facebook?

Get on every dog group, animal rescue page and selling locally groups and spread the word.

devuskums · 12/08/2017 18:56

Join the local facebook page and post a pic and message on there. Hope you find him soon x

Skarossinkplunger · 12/08/2017 18:57

Have a look on FB to see if there's a lost dog page local to where you lost him.

Post on your FB with a photo and ask people who to share.

Ring the local police station and leave details.

Not going to help but do you realise that your dog has to be chipped by law.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2017 18:57

Put the details on here if you like.

Maybe get MN to add 'New Forest' to your thread title?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 12/08/2017 18:57

They have a Facebook page and have registered users across the country as soon as they get an alert they notify all the users in the local area, they send out email posters that can be printed off and distributed by anyone receiving the alert. My two are registered on there even though they have never been lost.

Good luck, I hope he comes home soon.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 12/08/2017 18:58

Yes get his pic on every local fb page you can find and ask people to share as someone might have him at home. Really hope you find him x

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2017 18:58

I think the dog is chipped but the micro chip company is now closed for the day/weekend.

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 12/08/2017 18:58

I'm no where near you else I'd offer to come out. Flowers it's terrifying when they go missing I hope he turns up soon.
Facebook selling sites are brilliant for this, also any local rescues that have a facebook page I would post on there.
[http://doglost.co.uk/ create a poster here]] they're really good at getting it out there.
Also I would google the number of the local emergency vet and dog warden, both with have 24/7 numbers so there will be someone even if it is the weekend.

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2017 18:59

YY local FB sites around here have been great at this.

LoveMyLittleSuperhero · 12/08/2017 18:59

Sorry massive cross post with others and I misses that the dog warden is closed

Skarossinkplunger · 12/08/2017 18:59

Sorry, just realised he is chipped. Most local vets have a scanner so if he's handed in they'll be able to read his chip.

Contact Dorset Dogs and let them know. They are on FB.

Bagely · 12/08/2017 19:02

I haven't seen success with every dog, but if possible, it's sometimes worth putting their bed out roughly where they were lost. Sometimes, if they come across it, they'll stay where they recognise the familiar scent. Might just be an additional thing to try?

As well as local vets and the dog warden, if you have any animal rescues close by it's worth giving them a call too.

Hope you find him soon.

sonjadog · 12/08/2017 19:02

Leave a jumper or some other item that smells of one of your family on the spot where you last were. If he returns, he might stay beside it.

He may have wandered further than you would imagine, so make sure your search area is wide.

If he hasn't reappeared by tomorrow morning, then make posters and stick them up everywhere.

I lost my dog once. It was truly awful. You have my sympathies.

WilburmissingNF · 12/08/2017 19:02

Thank you all, will try Facebook groups.

He is chipped and normally has his tag on him - but stupidly didn't today.

I am about to put him onto Dog Lost now. To be honest I don't really know the area he went missing as it's a big wood in between a few villages. I'll try and put a map thing up on here just in case there is a local on MN who might know a good group to try.

Thank you again

Good luck. Everything crossed for you.

Crispbutty · 12/08/2017 19:04

Dartmoor rescue (I know not the same area) have a big following who will always share. If you can set up a page and share it on here I can post on their page and they will circulate too. X

GravitasLass · 12/08/2017 19:05

NF Dog send out email alerts to their members for lost dogs in the New Forest area - worth a try?

Floralnomad · 12/08/2017 19:06

Hope he turns up , don't want to be doom and gloom but have you rung round the local police stations to see if he's been reported / injured in a car accident .
