To ask if anyone can help us find our dog?

Our dog (Wilbur, 11 month old English Pointer) has been missing in the New Forest area for coming up to 4 hours. We have scoured the area, called the dog warden (only works Mon-Fri) and local vets again most are closed. Also tried local shelters but these too are closed as it's the weekend. Have called micro chip company but they are also bloody closed.

We are beside ourselves with panic - this is not normal behaviour for our dog and we drove about 20 mins from home so there is little to no chance of him finding his way back. He was wearing his house collar and we completely forgot to put on his walking one which has his tag so no phone number or address on him - we are obviously kicking ourselves.

Just so worried that he has been taken, is injured and facing spending the night in the cold alone, he's a really clingy loving dog. My other half is still out looking for him and I'm trying to think of any way that we can get this out onto social media in case someone has picked him up.

Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Op update us!

sonjadog · 12/08/2017 22:54

From the fb page it seems like their dog has been found and they are on their way/ have collected him. But it would be good to hear from the OP that he is home again!

WilburmissingNF · 12/08/2017 23:01

Hello! Sorry for the slow response - the dog on the Facebook page was ours and he is now home safe and sound thank goodness. He was picked up about 3 miles or so from where we were walking and then taken to a vets. He is absolutely fine and seems completely chilled about the whole experience!

Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and advice - Facebook groups are really amazing and I would never have thought to have tried without the advice here.

Thanks again!

Great news!

When we lost a foster cat recently, we put out food, blanket, little glow sticks...and recorded feeding tin complete with rattling tin and calling the cat on a dicta phone. We left the dicta phone on repeat. We also left a little radio playing all night. It worked and drew him back.

WTAAF · 12/08/2017 23:08

Feeding time....not tin!

Hurrah!

How awful! Worst nightmare. Do you have dog whistles? Sound travels further than just shouting and good for giving voice a rest. My 70 year old neighbour lost her two spaniels out in nat trust woods and stayed out all night in her landrover - they eventually turned up towards morning. is there any way one of you could stay overnight? He's so young too. Any friends have dogs who could help you look tomorrow? Dogs are attracted to other dogs.

Must RFT. Must RFT.

Oh, I'm so relieved and delighted for you and for Wilbur! :)

Maelstrop · 12/08/2017 23:47

Thank god! Mine went missing (after a deer, little git) I mobilised some mates when I was bored of being in my own in the pitch dark and trawled the woods, eventually found him . The relief was immense.
