Empty syringe..

Posted elsewhere but need answers! Namechanged, my partner found an empty (no needle) syringe in ds (12)s pocket earlier. I have no idea where it has come from or why he might have it. It's 30ml.
I won't go into why I may have cause for concern but should I be concerned? Is it some kind of drug paraphernalia I've never heard of? I'm worried.
He's slept out tonight but came back and had a shower which is when we found it. I txt him a picture of it he replied "what" I asked what it was and no reply.

Phone him ?

Could be anything. I've loads knocking about for measuring pet medicine.

Cherrytart6 · 10/08/2017 23:05

Can you sit down with him and get to the bottom of things?

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 10/08/2017 23:06

If it's drugs if would have to be something like heroin. Maybe a couple of others. Surely you'd have noticed behaviour changes relating to something that major in a 12 year old ?

I can't see it being anything awful unless you have other reason to be concerned.

kingfishergreen · 10/08/2017 23:06

I bet £10 it was pinched from a science class, on the basis it 'looked cool'.

NormaDesmondsEyebrows · 10/08/2017 23:07

Like a Calpol syringe?

If I found one in my 12yo's pocket I'd think he'd been mucking about squirting water or something, rather than anything dodgy.

Do you have any other reasons to suspect he's into drugs?

PacificDogwod · 10/08/2017 23:07

30mls?
That's a really unusual size.

Ask him?

Smellyoulateralligater · 10/08/2017 23:07

30ml is quite big. Was a needle attached?

Where was he staying?

NormaDesmondsEyebrows · 10/08/2017 23:07

I think Kingfisher has it.

HiJenny35 · 10/08/2017 23:08

I'd ask him without jumping to conclusions. Could it be one of the ones we use in school? We use them for loads of experiments, filled with paint to make effects, to make pancake patterns in a frying pan, to displace air etc my little brother uses one as a water pistol.

PacificDogwod · 10/08/2017 23:08

Yep, I suspect kingfisher is right.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 10/08/2017 23:08

Just read 30ml. 30ml is massive. Nah he's nicked it from somewhere because he thinks it's cool.

Smellyoulateralligater · 10/08/2017 23:09

Yes was thinking the same PAcific.

We found an empty syringe at work. The things that made us think it wasn't being used to inject werebthe huge bore needle. No blood anywhere.

But please get him home and talk to him

junowiththegladrags · 10/08/2017 23:09

What colour was it?

Papafran · 10/08/2017 23:09

Probably from science. When I was at school there were huge boxes full of syringes in the lab so we obviously nicked them and used them to squirt water at each other.

Fujexi · 10/08/2017 23:10

Definitely 30mls, rather than 3mls? 30mls is quite massive. WAY too big for the likes of heroin etc! They are occasionally used in vet practices, not sure what other uses they would have. So probably an innocent explanation!

jerrysbellyhangslikejelly · 10/08/2017 23:10

30ml isn't a common size, there's usually a jump from 20ml to 50ml and don't think it would be the one of choice for illicit drug use. Could it have come from a science class? I'd just ask him calmly where it came from.

TheDropBear · 10/08/2017 23:10

It's probably something completely innocent. Quite a few hipster food places now serve desserts with a syringe full of sauce that you inject into it. If it was drugs it would probably have a needle I think?

StickThatInYourPipe · 10/08/2017 23:10

There's a bar by us that sells shots in syringes. There's also a icecream parlour that sells syrup shots in them too

HiJenny35 · 10/08/2017 23:11

30ml wouldn't be for drugs, too big.
Has he been at a holiday club?

reallyn · 10/08/2017 23:11

He is 12 going on 15..older friends. He is difficult to talk to at the moment and will just snap. He's friends mum told me he thinks they've been smoking weed..son told me he hasn't his friend had with his sister.
I def know it wouldn't be heroin. I won't lie at the moment I have lost a little bit of control with him and he is no angel which is why I'm worried.
School broke up 3 weeks ago so doubt it's that.

LostSight · 10/08/2017 23:11

I'm a vet. A 30ml syringe is massive and unwieldy. I think most drug users would use something like a 2ml syringe. So I don't know where he found it, but it's unlikely he's using it for intravenous drug usage, if that's worrying you.

Smellyoulateralligater · 10/08/2017 23:13

You're right jerry
We have 0.5,1,2.5,5,10 50 then 60ml

If it's purple its an oral syringe.

PacificDogwod · 10/08/2017 23:14

Aw, too bad that things are strained between you.

I still think a face to face conversation would be better. At least you can see his reaction.
Don't be confrontational but ask him what he was doing with it and where it came from.

JWrecks · 10/08/2017 23:14

Like this? www.capitolscientific.com/S8220-6-img.jpg

I would assume toy / water squirter nicked from science, like pp have suggested. I don't know what kind of drugs you could take with something like that, especially without the needle. And that is utterly MASSIVE for an IV drug syringe. Not even Keith Richards could control a proper dose with something that massive!!

reallyn · 10/08/2017 23:15

Def 30 mils it's just clear

Empty syringe..
