Empty syringe..

Posted elsewhere but need answers! Namechanged, my partner found an empty (no needle) syringe in ds (12)s pocket earlier. I have no idea where it has come from or why he might have it. It's 30ml.
I won't go into why I may have cause for concern but should I be concerned? Is it some kind of drug paraphernalia I've never heard of? I'm worried.
He's slept out tonight but came back and had a shower which is when we found it. I txt him a picture of it he replied "what" I asked what it was and no reply.

It might not be nicked from science, it may have been from tech, used to demonstrate pneumatics.

thecatfromjapan · 10/08/2017 23:38

Just answered on your other thread, reallyn.

User, I realise this is in AIBU BUT there are real people on the other side of the screen. It's not obligatory to post an inflammatory, non-empathetic response. Teens can be very difficult. There but for the grace of God, etc.

reallyn · 10/08/2017 23:38

For the record we live in a small village. And I can keep tabs he just hangs around with the wrong people and is easily led which is why I worry.

Thanks thecat.

"oh fuck off you with no name" 🤣🤣

I too have a slightly wayward 12yo DS op ... I feel your pain

SkyWalker95 · 10/08/2017 23:46

We used to use those for shots ... Wait that doesn't sound right, I mean as in alcohol. Especially jelly baby/ skittles vodka.

thecatfromjapan · 10/08/2017 23:47

My teen turned my hair grey, reallyn. It's tough. If I have one piece of advice, it's this: try to keep a hold of your confidence in your relationship with him. I honestly think that is a crucial thing. It's good for your sanity and it's pragmatic, because it keeps you plugging away at communication and relationship when all outward signs suggest it's going nowhere. It will be going in/working - they just don't always show it (not immediately, anyway).

thecatfromjapan · 10/08/2017 23:49

Yes. My guess would be alcohol/curiosity as to how syringes work (and agree with other posters - and you - that it's not pointing to intravenous use, it's way too large).

reallyn · 10/08/2017 23:53

Thank you for all the constructive advice it is really hard times at the minute.

I have a big one like that - someone gave it to me when I was struggling to take excess water out of an expansion tank on a car (overfilled by accident - not be me! ).
Apparently mechanics use them for things.
Iirc the one I was given had been used for homebrew - and people with fish tanks use similar ones as well...
not sure what all the uses are but I do know they are handy to get a syphon going without risking getting a mouthful of something yuck or poisonous...
Agree not suitable for injecting drugs ...too big for calpol etc Big for vet medicine too- unless for a really big dog or maybe for horses/ cattle ..
But they do have a lot of uses ...

ILikeyourHairyHands · 11/08/2017 00:07

That's not a syringe that intravenous drug users would employ. Fret not, he's probably nabbed it from somewhere and has been squirting water at his mates from it.

12 year old boys are not very sophisticated beasts, they like to think they are, and they often get up to all kinds of repulsive childish shite, but, ultimately they are still very child-like.

Don't come on too strong, you may be worrying about him, and angry but try to find common ground, (it is there, no matter how tenuous), speak to him, I guarantee beneath any bombast is just a boy who feels unsure about the world and would welcome a connection that comes without judgement.

reallyn · 11/08/2017 00:29

Thank you.

I remember at 15 my mum confronted me about a roll of foil, spoons and lighters she found under my bed. I have, to this day, no fucking idea where they came from!

UterusUterusGhali · 11/08/2017 00:52

Some people use big-ass syringes for topping up printer ink I think.

It's certainly not a "druggy" syringe.

Might someone have slipped it in there?

TriHard27 · 11/08/2017 00:59

I saw syringes sticking out of a foil vacccum type bag in my friend's bathroom once and was a bit panicked so asked her about them and she told me she orders tooth whitener online and It comes packed like that. Probably not what you're dealing with in respect of a 12 year old but just goes to show it could have been used for a number of things, not necessarily worst case scenario. Fingers crossed it's not what you're thinking.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 11/08/2017 01:07

He could be using it as an enema syringe...

Only mentioning as the only time I've seen a syringe in a friend's bathroom I questioned it and that was the answer....

Kinda wished I hadn't asked but was glad I never picked it up

LightastheBreeze · 11/08/2017 01:59

I saw one like that in our bathroom, I think DH uses it for shifting earwax Grin Not sure what ml it is but about that size.

x2boys · 11/08/2017 03:06

I have loads of oral syringes ds is autistic and won't take medication for constipation so I have to hide it in juice using a syringe you can buy oral syringes for about 70pence at the chemist but yeah 30 mls would be way to big for some one to use for injecting heroin.

OkPedro · 11/08/2017 03:33

When I was 12, I was drinking and taking acid.
Please don't jump down pps throats.
I don't think you know your son as well as you let on.
There's no criticism in that BTW

My parents were laid back thinking they were "letting me be young"
In reality I was going off the rails

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/08/2017 07:20

They do pens shaped like syringes and give them out where my sister works ... if the ink centre had been taken out it would look like a 30ml syringe ... but it's just a pen

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/08/2017 07:22

It looks like the ones you get for taking calpol or squirting water ... calm down

Bumdishcloths · 11/08/2017 07:42

Physics. Hydraulics.

RadioGaGoo · 11/08/2017 08:26

Dismiss User entirely.

I agree that it doesn't appear to be used for taking drugs.

Neverknowing · 11/08/2017 09:28

It looks like the ones we had in science class. He may be not telling you as they got it from somewhere dodgy but it's not drugs 😊
