From that Guardian article:

"I find the fact that they presumably spent taxpayer money to undertake such a hyper-partisan and unprofessional effort extremely troubling,” John Sipher, a former senior CIA officer said in an emailed comment. “There are normal ways to do this through our existing institutions, and their relationships with our British partners. This is bad on many levels."

"Republicans that are part of the House investigation should not be undertaking efforts without informing their Democratic colleagues," Sipher added. “Not only is it unprofessional but it is impolite. Mr Steele was a professional who worked on important and compatible issues with the US. He deserves better than being ambushed by a bunch of hacks."

Gumpendorf · 08/08/2017 09:29

It's quite scary.

It is and it's why the investigation needs to go beyond Trump and his associates. From all accounts, Pence and Ryan and others have been as involved in the collusion, money laundering, cover up etc.

The irony will be if the Washington swamp brings down Trump because of his past misdemeanours and allows the 'establishment' to walk away. That would be the worst of all worlds. Frying pan and fire come to mind.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/08/2017 09:43

Thanks, I've read the article now. So really significant and yet another example of inappropriate behaviour by the Republicans on that committee?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 11:14

I didn't know this, from oybbk's link:

The vast influence of the Kochs’ “dark money” has been documented in Jane Mayer’s 2016 book of the same name. It funds, among other things, nearly 300 academic courses at colleges and universities, where the syllabus is dictated by the right: students learn that Keynes is bad, sweatshops are good and climate change is a myth.

North Korea vows to 'make the US pay dearly' as sanctions tighten

edition.cnn.com/2017/08/06/asia/north-korea-asean/index.html

Fuck.

I hope it's just posturing.

"Some analysts have expressed doubt, however, that sanctions can stop the North Korean missile and nuclear programs" - I agree

From the same author Pain. DeVos now delivering Koch agenda.

I think we need another whiteboard to keep track of all these links. Wink

cozietoesie · 08/08/2017 11:36

'Keynes is bad'? They're not talking about my hero, are they? Shock

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 11:38

I think someone called trump CFP and so perhaps in honour of that we should start a trello board!

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 11:44

lweji that is terrifying. I don't know how this will pan out but getting everybody to agree on these sanctions has been a feat, even if I'm not exactly sure how much credit can be attributed to trump.

This would be nerve wracking at the best of times, and that's without a toddler being in charge of the America.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 11:45

I don't think Trump should get any credit on NK sanctions at all.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 11:46

I think someone called trump CFP

That would be me.

It needs to be a yuge trello board.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 12:12

Trump’s North Korea strategy: A lot like Obama’s

Despite warning that U.S. patience with Kim Jong Un 'is over,' the president is so far relying on sanctions and diplomatic pressure to try to curb North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 12:19

Because there's nothing else that can be done. No one is going to invade NK.
The time has passed and it would be a nightmare anyway.
At this point we'll just have to accept that they are going to be a rogue state with nuclear weapons. Sad

OuaisMaisBon · 08/08/2017 12:48

Just popping in to wave hello, I used to be an Archers theme tune but got bored with the old name and have been childishly having fun with this Ouais Mais Bon
Also to ask what CFP means (excuse my ignorance) and to say that will not be happy until am sure the beloved daughter is on her plane safely out of Seoul early tomorrow morning..

Roussette · 08/08/2017 13:14

Oh, hope all is ok Ouais with her DD.

I can take over the worrying then as mine goes to Seoul in about 6 weeks Confused

Roussette · 08/08/2017 13:15

*with YOUR DD I meant.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 13:19

CFP is for cheeky fucker president.

Borrowed from the cheeky fucker neighbour threads.

cozietoesie · 08/08/2017 13:22

You'll have to excuse my pessimism, Lweji.

OuaisMaisBon · 08/08/2017 13:37

Roussette, thank you, she's loved being in Seoul (apart from the group of people she was with but that's just bad luck) and is presently just near the airport, due to leave in about 5 hours. She tells me the only worry they have had whilst there was the possibility of a tornado (or typhoon? Tsunami? Weather thing beginning with t, anyway! Sorry Blush ). I hope all goes well for your DD - how long will she be there for?
Ah, thank you, Lweji. Did wonder if the C stood for Cheeto.
I can't really keep up here as I am thoroughly mystified by most of it. Mainly that there are still Americans who believe Trump is MAGA.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 13:42

At this point, I don't think being in SK is any more dangerous than in China, Japan or the US. KJU seems to have long range missiles.

OuaisMaisBon · 08/08/2017 13:47

Yep, Lweji, my brain agrees but my emotions don't Grin

U.S. spy satellites detect North Korea moving anti-ship cruise missiles to patrol boat

Jennifer Jacobs @JenniferJJacobs
Asked on Fox about spy satellite report on N Korea (which Trump retweeted), Nikki Haley said can't talk on anything classified, bashed leaks

Jake Sherman @JakeSherman
yet the president of the United States retweeted this Fox and Friends tweet

[president can choose to unclassify information, even if it's just by tweeting about it]
