This is well dodgy and I can't for the life of me think how Trump gets away with using his hotel in Washington as an annexe to the WH, yet charging and profiting from it.

'Tis another log for Mueller's great big Trumpie pyre, Rousseau.

Roussette · 07/08/2017 23:04

Could this be the reason Trump won't stop maligning Blumenthal?

Roussette · 07/08/2017 23:05

Oh yes badbad, tis all to do with this emoluments thing that Trump seems to think doesn't apply to him

cozietoesie · 07/08/2017 23:15

Well found, Roussette. Smile

MicrowaveSpy · 07/08/2017 23:42

Yes Roussette that would explain it

Blumenthal doesn't appear too bothered by SCROTUS

45 has .........issues about Vietnam. And is faced by McCain and Mueller. (Sort of like joint Ghosts of Christmas Yet To Come.) He can't have a go at them about their service so Blumenthal seems 'appropriate pickings'. The existing antagonism underscores it.

I don't think he realises that every time he uses the 'V' word, he just reminds people of his own past conduct and statements.

Lweji · 08/08/2017 00:38

Where is Kelly? I thought he was supposed to be stopping this sort of thing?

Kelly is supposed to be managing the staff, not the President. (sorry, can't find the link now)

lionheart · 08/08/2017 01:31

Blumenthal has been quite outspoken about the Russian investigations (remember him from the Sally Yates hearing?). Steadfast.

lionheart · 08/08/2017 01:52

Problems apparently to be solved by tweeting.

So Blumenthal was on CNN?

I'm surprised Trump was watching Grin

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 07:21

I'm back and thrilled to see that trump has renounced his ways by deciding to stay away from twitter and golf courses. And that he's taken a course on how to make
Friends and influencd people.

Given the timing of this, it kinda looks like Trump TV is intended to replace the WH daily press briefing.

Seth Abramson @SethAbramson
BREAKING: Facts suggest President Trump, not Republican leadership in Congress, is secretly trying to get to Steele.

amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/07/donald-trump-russia-dossier-christopher-steele-devin-nunes

(2) Here's a follow-up. Nunes is a proven (quasi-clandestine) Trump agent; he's not part of the House probe anymore.

www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/08/tuesday-briefing-london-spy-twist-to-trump-russia-affair

(3) British media is already all over this. Now American media must find out what the White House knew about this secret overseas trip.

(4) We've had media reports for months suggesting President Trump is obsessed with Chris Steele and his dossier. This is what that's led to.

(5) Remember how it went down last time Trump (via Nunes) attempted a clandestine interference op in the Russia probe? Smelled like this.

(6) The unanswered question is exactly what did these (plausibly deniable) White House/Nunes agents intend to do once they found Steele?

(7) The extraordinary level of secrecy and under-the-table funding stream suggest that, as I've saying, Donald Trump is terrified of Steele.

(8) This secret trip coincided with right-wing media suddenly obsessing over Steele's dossier with no obvious connection to news of the day.

(9) One can't help but feel there are rumors floating around D.C. about Steele's dossier and its accuracy that haven't been reported on yet.

(10) Certainly we know that nearly every part of it that can be verified has, at this point, been verified. That's enough to scare Trump.

(11) In any case the shocking quote is this one: "Neither Schiff nor his Republican counterpart had been informed about the staffers’ trip."

(12) The last time Nunes went rogue, he was acting on White House direction. There's no reason at all to think this is anything different.

(13) Consider it: Donald Trump is publicly calling the Russia probe a "hoax" while he uses Nunes to secretly track down Christopher Steele.

(14) Should anything happen to Steele at a time when a Trump ally is sending aides to determine his location, this thing will get bad quick.

(15) Don't forget this trip was organized around the time there were whispers the Democrats wanted Steele to testify on national television.

(16) So this was either a Trump/Nunes plot to undermine Steele's testimony in advancein some creepy wayor else ensure it never happened.

(17) I'm not suggesting violent aims, though Putin might have some. But perhaps bribery? Blackmail? Domestic disinformation? Something else?

(18) Don't claim to know. But I know journalists should be at Nunes' door asking what the hell he planned to do with Steele if he found him.

(19) They should consider that Steele is a former MI6 agent who did much of his data collection on Trump for free because he believed in it.

(20) Upshot: Trump's just now learning he might not be able to obstruct Mueller directly. I think he's going after Steele now instead. {end}

(PS) I agree with those who saypartly on the strength of this storythat Devin Nunes must become a key piece in Mueller's Russia probe.

Hope the link works. Opinion piece that says when Trump goes, the Far right of the States will have to decide which direction it goes, libertarian or religious. It's quite scary.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 08/08/2017 08:09

Yes OYBBK I read that piece and its both scary and depressing in equal measures. Doubly so, as it can be applied to the UK and the Brexiteers as well I think. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/08/2017 08:10

yeah :(

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/08/2017 08:22

On Christopher Steeele, I saw Adam Schiff being interviewed about the Republican' s visit to London and he was saying that obviously he would be interested in speaking to Steele too and would facilitate that by any means, including coming to Britain. He didn't seem particularly concerted, although who knows what he was thinking, of course.

I watched it, and didn't think much of it. And now this?

I've read quite a bit on Louise Mensch' s take on the dossier and couldn't understand much of it, although I do now.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 08/08/2017 08:23

Concerned not concerted.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 08/08/2017 08:35

set I don't think the concern is about speaking to Steele but the fact that it's been coordinated solely by reps, ignoring half the committee, in a similar way that nunes kept hold of "damning documents that exonerated trump" without sharing them with his committee and holding press conferences etc that were obviously planned to derail the investigation and were also
Sourced from the White House
etc
