If you are rich, and you believe money doesn't buy you happiness, can you please give me your money?

Specifically, if you are loaded and think you are no happier now than you were before you were loaded, I am more than happy to take some cash off you!!

I am fed up of hearing people say money doesn't buy u happiness!!! I have the best DH in the world, two fantastic children and I like my house. But .... I would be happier if I had more money!!! .... I could fix my stupid leaky tap, work less (or better still, b a stay at home mum to my wonderful kids till they r a bit older), I could take my children to the legoland hotel for a night, I could decorate my bedroom, I could pay off my massive credit card bill! And ... I could feel less stressed about money more generally! Sure ... maybe millions don't make you happier - but having enough not to be in debt, and to be comfortable - surely that does!!

I agree! Those who say money doesn't buy you happiness have never been poor! Truly poor Flowers

Evelynia · 06/08/2017 17:34

Hmm. stop moaning and be grateful for what you have. Wealth is relative.
YABU v U

Improve your earning power, retrain, work hard.

MaidOfStars · 06/08/2017 17:36

I don't think that's what people mean by the phrase? Money can't buy happiness or love or whatever. That doesn't mean money isn't necessary for people to run their lives.

MartinJD · 06/08/2017 17:37

Money does buy you happiness, but it certainly does reach a point at which it plateaus which is actually much less then people think, we're not talking about being rich in the traditional sense here, more like a combined income of 100K.

Cheers,
M.JD

ReallyWanttowinthelottery · 06/08/2017 17:37

I do work hard!!!! Very hard!!! I have done lots of training!!!!! And I a man grateful for what I have!!! Just think id be a lot happier if I didn't have to constantly worry about money!

(I'm assuming you r rich Evelynia! and believe money doesn't buy you happiness??!!)

I agree with you totally. What annoys me even more is those that say oh I'm no happier now with millions than I was with £2 in the bank. 1. If you have ever had only £2 in the bank then you would know thay actually having money does make for a more stress free happier life and 2. If you aren't any happier with your millions give it away to people that need it instead of keeping it in your bank and making out it is like a "burden"

MargaretTwatyer · 06/08/2017 17:39

Absolutely agree. Wealth buys you the freedom to make choices and do the things you want to do.

Something evelynia doesn't appear to understand because quite often things like retraining aren't possible precisely because you are poor. And I think most people with the slightest idea of how the modern world works know that hard work is no guarantee of progress or success these days.

JuicyStrawberry · 06/08/2017 17:41

I've always said the people who say "Money doesn't bring happiness" are the one who have money.

It's patronising. Fuck off.

LittleLucyLuce · 06/08/2017 17:41

I totally agree OP! It's always well off people that are preaching about money not buying happiness or 'collect memories, not stuff', online. Same people are usually also at the same time posting photos of their latest pair of Louboutins....

peachlimeorange · 06/08/2017 17:41

Being poor can be shit.

But I'd take a loving and supportive partner over money.

JuicyStrawberry · 06/08/2017 17:41

Mulberry72 · 06/08/2017 17:41

They say money doesn't buy you happiness....but I'd rather be rich and miserable than poor and miserable! One of my DM's favourite sayings, and I totally agree!

JuicyStrawberry: It's actually true though, money doesn't bring happiness. You sound like you have a chip on your shoulder?

Cheers,
M.JD

JuicyStrawberry · 06/08/2017 17:45

Er, Martin read my post properly....

Mynewballoon · 06/08/2017 17:46

I used to be 'truly poor' and now I'm wealthy. Happiness comes from within yourself, but money makes life a lot easier, which in turn brings a degree of happiness.

LyraTheDaemon · 06/08/2017 17:49

You may not be able to buy happiness, but you can buy a Yacht or a Jet ski and have you ever seen a miserable person on a yacht?

I'd definitely be happier with money! Not having to worry about bills/rent/holidays/my car falling apart would be bliss.

Money doesn't buy true happiness but it certainly smoothes the path to happiness.

I've been poor and now I'm reasonably well off and I know which one I prefer. It certainly makes me happy knowing I can pay my gas bill or buy food for my kids when at one point I was contemplating shoplifting nappies. I never ever want to go back to that feeling.

People who say that aren't usually the ones who haven't been terrified by the lack of money at some point.

OrangeFurryCat · 06/08/2017 17:56

are

JuicyStrawberry · 06/08/2017 18:00

Martin Sorry I have just realised that you said money doesn't bring happiness. I think I should follow my own advice and read people's posts properly!

Well, my response in that case is different. As someone said up thread, I'd rather be rich and miserable than poor and miserable. As for the chip, nah, i don't sit there thinking about it day in day out. But when someone says it I do feel like telling them fuck off. Smile Hope that clears it up.

MartinJD · 06/08/2017 18:03

JuicyStrawberry: Not to worry, we all make mistakes, apart from me of course.

Best,
M.JD

JuicyStrawberry · 06/08/2017 18:04

Grin Funny you are.

WillowWeeping · 06/08/2017 18:04

Money makes things easier it doesn't bring happiness and it's naive (and dismissive) to suggest it does.

MrsFrankieHeck · 06/08/2017 18:06

Oh yeah I hear you.

Being poor is definitely not happy ime.
