To think I was a bit rude?

Am 15 weeks pregnant. Was tired and hormonal. Sil marched in, patted my stomach and laughed 'look at you, who ate all the pies!'
I said, 'I know!' patted hers back, laughed and said 'what's your excuse?!'
I was half joking, and half responding in annoyance at her, but I've felt awful since she left. It's not my usual style of joke, I just reacted to her comment and unwanted touch. Was I rude, or should I just forget it. I don't think she seemed too bothered.

Haha I think that's the perfect reaction and I'm proud you were so quick off the mark!!

WhamBarsArentAsFizzyAsTheyWere · 01/08/2017 20:21

She was rude first. Don't feel bad.

gamerchick · 01/08/2017 20:21

Maybe but I doubt she'll do it again Grin bravo!

SandyDenny · 01/08/2017 20:22

She was rude, don't worry about it

sureitsgrand · 01/08/2017 20:23

Thanks, she's very pass remarkable and usually I just take it as she catches you unaware. But it was that or snap at her to fuck off which would have been way worse!!

CoughLaughFart · 01/08/2017 20:23

I can't speak for your sister, but I think I'd have just said 'Meow!' or similar and treated it as a joke.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/08/2017 20:23

She started it.

sureitsgrand · 01/08/2017 20:27

I've just scoffed fish and chips so between that and her comment I am feeling like a roly poly! Healthy food tomorrow.
Glad I said it now Grin

Hahahahaha 😂 that hilarious!

I wish I had the balls to say something like that to the lady at the post office who asked me if I'm sure I'm not having twins!

TicketyBoo83 · 01/08/2017 20:30

Fantastic! Hopefully she'll think twice before commenting again!

Allabitmuchisntit · 01/08/2017 20:32

Brilliant Grin

And I want fish and chips now....

SorrelSoup · 01/08/2017 20:35

Nice one!!!

sureitsgrand · 01/08/2017 20:36

I even made a chip butty which I've not done in years.
Why do people think they can comment? Suppose I was lucky to get to 15 weeks and this being the first comment.

On my last pregnancy I remember a few people saying 'God, you're huge!' I mean, what do they think you are meant to reply???

'Am I? I thought I was tiny!'
'I know, I'm a beached whale'

There is no response without putting yourself down.

Hahaha. Agree with earlier poster, she started

She laughed too and rolled her eyes. She's quite inappropriate herself, but it's out of character for me to respond so I'd imagine she was a bit surprised. She stayed and chatted a while after so I think she's ok.

I'm just hormonal and overthinking. I always want to be good at comebacks, but obviously can't handle the emotional aftermath!

PerspicaciaTick · 01/08/2017 20:45

You were rude, brilliantly rude and I hope she has learned her lesson.

And if people comment about how you look and you feel you need to reply then keep bringing it back to the baby. "You're huge", well no, you aren't huge, you are pregnant, so maybe reply "That is a fine and healthy baby bump thank you for asking".

sureitsgrand · 01/08/2017 20:57

Great response.

I'm actually a size 10 and not even in to my maternity jeans yet. Though I will be sooner rather than later if I keep quaffing chip butties!

hahahaa love it!

Aintgotnosoapbox · 01/08/2017 21:02

You could have said ' the baby of course'!
She was rude, and so were you, but you know that.
It's not a great conversation, but you were just reacting to her.

CoolCarrie · 01/08/2017 21:03

Should have said, " I'm pregnant, what's your excuse?" !
You were quite right to answer back.

elevenclips · 01/08/2017 21:06

Unless she has a weight problem she totally deserved it.

Angelika321 · 01/08/2017 21:07

Good retort! I had similar this week. Was told I'm big for 6 months and that she was about this size at term. I did reply that she'd only had the 1 and I'm on baby no 4.

CoolCarrie · 01/08/2017 21:07

Sorry what I meant to do was quote you , but i don't know how to make the words in bold letters!

ChrisPrattsFace · 01/08/2017 21:07

I'm keeping that one in the bank for when I'm pregnant. Grin
