Apols if previously posted:

www.wired.com/story/jared-kushner-middle-east/amp

On Monday, White House senior advisor Jared Kushner spoke to a group of congressional interns as part of an ongoing, off-the-record summer lecture series.

[...] Prior to Kushner's talk, Katie Patru, the deputy staff director for Member Services, Outreach & Communications, told the assembled interns, "To record today’s session would be such a breach of trust, from my opinion. This town is full of leakers and everyone knows who they are, and no one trusts them. In this business your reputation is everything, I’ve been on the hill for 15 years. I’ve sat in countless meetings with members of congress where important decisions were being made. During all those years in all those meetings, I never once leaked to a reporter. …. If someone in your office has asked you to break our protocol and give you a recording so they can leak it, as a manager, that bothers me at my core."

WIRED has obtained a recording of Kushner's talk, which lasted for just under an hour in total.

Grin

That's the least substantive bit of the peace - Kushner's thoughts on middle east peace are, well, on parr with his father in laws grasp of most subjects.

This isn't good

www.nbcnews.com/news/north-korea/amp/sen-lindsey-graham-trump-says-war-north-korea-option-n788396

There will be war between the United States and North Korea over the rogue nation's missile program if it continues to aim intercontinental ballistic missiles at America, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said President Donald Trump has told him.

"He has told me that. I believe him," the lawmaker said Tuesday on TODAY. "If I were China, I would believe him, too, and do something about it."

cozietoesie · 01/08/2017 17:22

I believe him. It's hardly new news, sadly.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/08/2017 18:00

Cozie Took a look at likes & retweets. It does paint a hugely different picture than the numbers of followers, doesn't it? And I'm sure some of those likes and retweets are bots to begin with.

Bossy Never thought about faking accounts to bump follower counts. I guess when you have scruples, those things don't occur to us, right?

I had no idea about the Uday and Qusay thing. I snorted a bit a that.

Wait.
Is Spicer back?

www.cbsnews.com/news/house-panel-approves-amendment-that-would-strip-trumps-war-authorization-powers/

As far as Scrotus declaring war with NK, does anyone know the current status of the above?

I've googled around because I swear I remember something about this being deleted from the appropriations bill. Hopefully it was only a bad dream.

And WTF with everyone 'warning' China to 'deal with NK'. China doesn't give a rat's arse about NK.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/08/2017 18:07

Whhhaaaaaa? Spicy's back (or was never really gone)?

So was Mooch just a "Look, a fish?".

AcrossthePond55 · 01/08/2017 18:09

Seriously. Was the whole Mooch thing simply some vendetta Scrotus had against Mooch and he used his Office for a bit of petty revenge?

Lweji · 01/08/2017 18:10

Was the whole Mooch thing simply some vendetta Scrotus had against Mooch and he used his Office for a bit of petty revenge?

Or Priebus... Hmm

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 01/08/2017 18:11

Spicer hasn't finished serving his last day yet!

BossyBitch · 01/08/2017 18:12

Spicy hasn't left yet. He's still working out his notice period. He might have been re-hired since but he wasn't yet gone.

BossyBitch · 01/08/2017 18:14

... but if they don't re-hire him, could they please hire Melissa McCarthy in her Spicy persona instead, pretty please?

I'd really miss him (or more like: her, but there's no reason for her to impersonate him when he's gone).

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 01/08/2017 18:15

Paul Farhi @farhip
To summarize: Spicer quit because of Scaramucci, who took down Priebus, who was replaced by Kelly, who took down Scaramucci.

orlantina · 01/08/2017 18:19

If this was a plot of The West Wing, people would dismiss it as unbelievable.

Across

If you want to get legal, I have just a feeling that the US and NK are still technically 'at war' - there's an Armistice but no Peace Treaty. ( I'll stand to be corrected on that.)

ElenaGreco123 · 01/08/2017 18:22

Thank you for suggestions. I'll continue following you instead of catching up.

It was a great holiday. DS has never even brought his tablet Shock

cozie I heard the sad but ultimately fake news that Spicey is gone.

The only real surprise I found in your today's posts that Across thinks that there still lines drawn in the sand (in relation to Mike Pence). Not sure about that.

Has anything come out of Kushner's testimony other than he has better lawyers?

Lweji · 01/08/2017 18:25

Spicer quit because of Scaramucci, who took down Priebus, who was replaced by Kelly, who took down Scaramucci.

It was a nice domino cascade installation.

catgirl1976 · 01/08/2017 18:29

I really wish DBro had not gone back to the S.Korea area :( He's not due home until November now and even that's not definite.

I guess Royal Caribbean would pull their people and cruises out pretty quick if it really heated up?

If there was a war with NK do you think any of us would be safe and it would "just" :( be millions of people in the China / Korea / Japan are (like my DSILs family) or would it be global?

Sorry - I'm feeling very, very gloomy about it all today

BossyBitch · 01/08/2017 18:29

cozietoesie, the US AFAIK doesn't actually recognise NK as a country. It basically regards SK as the only legitimate nation state on the Korean peninsula.

I might be wrong on this one, but if I'm not they can't really be in a state of war, which in IR is between nation states. If anything, it'd have to be some kind of ISIS-like situation (armed conflict with a non-state actor).

Oh, this is getting horribly technical now.

cozietoesie · 01/08/2017 18:34

Needlessly so. It would be hugely popular.

At first.

catgirl

I just don't know what might happen. I think you're right that cruises would be pulled fast, though.

BossyBitch · 01/08/2017 18:34

Okay, not wrong (but uncertain enough to look it up): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_relations_of_North_Korea#Bilateral_relations
The United States, Israel, Estonia, France, Japan and the Republic of China don't recognize DPRK as a state.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/08/2017 18:34

No, you are absolutely correct on that cozie. I'd forgotten. And I wonder how that impacts Scrotus' ability to 're-start' armed action if he were to be so inclined. Although technically the US never declared war. It was a 'conflict'. So I expect if Scrotus wanted to pull out histeeny tiny 'big gun' he'd have to go through Congress.

Interestingly enough, the US abrogated the Armistice Agreement in '57 by bringing nuclear weapons to SK. And in 2009 NK announced it feels it is no longer bound by the agreement.

It makes for interesting reading

Some good news Smile

Three federal judges on Monday ordered North Carolina's state legislature to draw new legislative district boundaries within a month, the latest ruling against boundaries drawn by Republicans that judges have found improper.
