To ask if you like 'scary' films?

Backstory: I'm not what you would call a horror fan - Hammer films are about as far as I'll go. Anyway, we all decided to sit down and watch Jaws and I'd forgotten just how terrified it made me all those years ago!

Do you like scary films? What are your favourites?

I love scary films - there aren't enough! Can't think of any at the moment but will return...

Oh and yes, Jaws was fab!

Love them. But only weird sci Fi type horror things. Not Saw or anything that is about gore and pain .
Favourites are Omen, Woman in Black and Knowing. Don't like a happy ending.

I am a total horror chick, although I tend to prefer supernatural type horror flicks. 😀

Jaws was never scary though, think the one I found scariest was Cape Fear

I didn't find The Exorcist scary either, but I made XH come to the loo with me and wait outside during a break in Stephen King's Storm of The Century

I nearly died laughing at Salem's Lot, and I watched Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project wondering when the scary stuff would start

Hate scary movies, but don't mind a good thriller.

DH loves horror.

My first scary movie was Jaws at age 6/7. Those images still haven't left me!

Then at 16 watched The Shining. Found that scary.

Since then have watched Cape Fear, which gave me nightmares.

Could never watch things like paranormal activity or child's play, omen, saw movies, exorcist.

I quite like the piss take scary movies!

I love them. The supernatural ones get me more especially the religious ones. I think it's my Catholic upbringing. The Exorcist scared the shit out of me for that reason - I grew up believing in demons and the devil!

Best films:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I actually think this is a superlative film not just from the genre but generally. There isn't a great deal of violent gory action as such but the way it's presented is powerful stuff. And the screaming! Brilliant.

The Exorcist: an examination of what evil would look like. Evil that could overpower anyone at the drop of a hat. Yes it really is that scary.

Night of the living dead: fucking mentally fast paced with tonnes of stuff packed into it. Really intelligent, doesn't patronise or get lazy at any time. It's a classic for a reason.

The Shining: gets a bit cartoonish but before that is the kind of film that plays with all sorts of disturbing ideas and really fucks with your mind.

Hate: wolf Creek (lazy, lame, derivative) Martyrs (boring) Hostel (one trick pony that gets stretched past the point of any interest whatsoever).

I'm sure loads of people will disagree with me!

Oh yeah and I think Jaws is awesome.

I hate jumping and just feel creeped out afterwards.

My mum loves the Saw films!

I genuinely can't watch anything scary! Even though I know it's just a movie, I still can't handle it. The weird thing is, when I was younger I could but since having my son, I can't!

I looooove scary movies. Jaws was not bad but my favourite is ‘The Thing’ (the one with Kurt Russell)

I do. Jaws was a classic, the tension is building in the boat (I think we need a bigger boat) and even after 27 viewings, the tension is there.

Love/hate Cujo, absolutely the most terrifying film ever made.

Blood and guts? Okay if I must

Favourite stuff has got to be anything B: Creepshow, the Ray Bradbury Theatre, Twilight Zone. They knew how, all right.

The one called The Autopsy of Jane Doe is amazing. Not gory but will have you sat on the edge of seat while needing to know things.

Twilight Zone was directed by George A Romero. So yeah that's why it's good.

I don't think Saw is scary. It's horrific, give you that but also just disgusting.You want to watch people carve their own legs off then go and read about people the Rwandan war.
Best scary films are where it is almost but not quite believable.
Twilight zone was fab.

Actually I did think the first Saw was novel and it made me jump and squirm. It was new at the time. It does nothing for me now though and the others are terrible.

I like the 90s/00s Asian films like Dark Water and Ring etc. Much better than what Hollywood was doing then although newer things like Insidious are good.

I love horror but I don't like gore. The original Woman in Black (not Harry Potter remake) made me physically fly out of my seat, and I fucking loved it.

I love scary/suspenseful movies. The blood and guts movies are just stupid to me.

I'd forgotten about the Exorcist! I remember going to see it on a date with DP when it was rereleased and it really put the chills up me. It's not particularly gory or jumpy, but the atmosphere and dialogue really gets to you!

I'm the biggest scaredy cat but I can handle Jaws.

Stephen King's 'It' (I think it was a TV movie) is probably the most horrific thing I've seen. Theres a big budget movie coming soon. I cant even look at the trailer

I am much more scared of some kinds of horror than others. Anything with a human(oid) being who is hunting someone else gets me instantly on edge - Halloween is a movie I find deliciously but almost unbearably scary, the Descent really freaked me out too!

I'm not that scared by monster films or gorefests. There's something I find compellingly unpleasant about zombies.

I enjoy psychological thrillers or just generally depressing films (Monster etc), but not films that depict unnecessary violence as it just makes me sick that those things actually happen!

I used to have a passion for reading Horror books, especially Stephen King, although I've now moved onto paranormal & science-fi novels. I've always thought that the human imagination was more terrifying than anything a movie-maker could create.

But I have never been able to watch Horror movies. I find them distressing and have nightmares if I see part of one by accident. Since seeing part of a trailer for The Human Centipede, Ive had to be even more vigilant - seeing that footage caused utter fear, nights of waking paralysed & shocked and each memory of it made me shaking & nauseous.
I've missed every classic horror film made & even adverts for them get turned off before I get upset.

I have no idea where all this fear or these reactions come from and it's getting stronger as I get older. I don't know anyone else who is like this. It's such a daft reaction for an adult to have, I feel quite ashamed & embarrassed.

Don't be embarrassed! It's your survival instinct kicking in. Which sounds like it's far more finely honed than that of mindless horror junkies like me.

So in fact you're more likely to survive the zombie apocalypse.

I LOVE horrors! Can't seem to find any that scare me and I've watched a ridiculous amount! Any unusual/not so popular ones that are actually terrifying? Love the spirit/ghost types rather than the cabin in the woods type
