Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

I would love a parquet floor. Can't believe someone ripped it up.

Ecureuil · 17/07/2017 17:37

Haha ScrumDinger id never go that far.

I do love a stuffed dead badger though Wink

ethelfleda · 17/07/2017 17:38

Mothervulva we have just laid a parquet floor in our kitchen/dining room and it looks the tits! Parquet floor is the way forward!
But I love vintage style decor anyway... I'd love a proper Victorian front door with stained glass in it!

ScrumDinger · 17/07/2017 17:40

Here's a 'half complete' stuffed badger. A snip at a mere £100. You can while away the winter evenings stuffing lint up his bum until he's fully complete.

Ecureuil · 17/07/2017 17:44

Ooh fab, I need a project!

nina2b · 17/07/2017 17:44

Today 17:23 Pallisers

We have a lot of books and recently redid the house including a room which is* effectively a library - bookshelves either side of a fireplace and over and to the sides of a window seat. Not only did I colour code the many books in blocks of colour, I also have a new rule that we are only allowed to buy books of seven inches or less until the narrow shelf over the window is completely full then normal book buying can resume.

I colour coded the cook books in my kitchen too.

Wow. You really love your books.

Oh dear do not expect an invite to my house anytime soon. I would die of shame and you would wet your knickers.
I have loads of IKEA furniture , loads of pine, family photo wall, black leather sofa with beige full length curtains and teal accesssories

But the worst thing is I do have a very large dolls house basically a. Box room and I recently made the bathroom for it. It has a SLOGAN in it

Oh the shame , I am going to have to tear it all out if we ever want to put our house on the market aren't I?

Keeping poultry indoors is a no. Nothing Disney should be outside a child's bedroom. Blinds are so tiresome.
I do have coordinated rooms, but made all the drapes, duvets, etc. myself.

KC225 · 17/07/2017 17:55

Bloody hell scrumdibger that badger husk is truly a craft project too far

Ericaequites · 17/07/2017 17:57

Except in very large homes, most Americans don't have American style refrigerators. In older builds, there is a limited space allocated to the fridge.

MsRinky · 17/07/2017 18:00

I have thousands of books arranged by colour and can lay my hands on any one of them in 5 minutes tops. Dewey decimal be damned.

BoysofMelody · 17/07/2017 18:01

When we did our house up we ripped up and chucked out all the old parquet flooring and replaced it with nice oak effect laminate.

Tell me this is a fucking joke. There is no such thing as nice laminate. It all looks naff.

Laminate floors will be to 2000s/2010s what woodchip wallpaper was to the 70s and Dado rails were to the 90s. A fucking abomination that future generations of DIYers will spend their time removing, whilst griding their teeth thinking 'What the fuck were they thinking?'*

  • I may have spent weeks striping woodchip wallpaer off, tiny piece by tiny piece.
CremeFresh · 17/07/2017 18:03

Dowser your house sounds right up my alley Grin.

We need PradaQueen to come on here , her house has the most beautiful decor ever . I'm her secret stalker Blush

BasketOfDeplorables · 17/07/2017 18:05

Did someone upthread just compare Buddha to Hitler??????

Maybe they meant Jesus?
Maybe they're a nazi?
Maybe they know something we don't?
Maybe it's the interior design thread version of 'worse than hitler'?

HazelBite · 17/07/2017 18:13

I keep seeing Metro tiles in homes I look at them and am instantly reminded of Chancery Lane Tube Station

Fontella · 17/07/2017 18:17

Wall canvases of the type you buy in The Range (got nowt against The Range, but just hate wall canvases).

Net fucking curtains. Why?

Vertical window blinds - belong in offices!

Fancy high gloss kitchens in bright red or similar with matching kettles, toasters, and appliances.

Laminate flooring.

Those gigantic great big corner sofa jobs.

Pallisers · 17/07/2017 18:17

Wow. You really love your books.

I do love my books - they are in my house because we love to read. It is absolutely possible to love books because you read them and love them because they look beautiful in a room.

I don't think I'd have put down laminate but I do have some sympathy about the parquet - I really hate the look of it.

mygorgeousmilo · 17/07/2017 19:23

Colour coding books when you have thousands... the thought of it is making me grimace Confused. How do you find a book, ever? You need to have categories, and group together. Travel, design/home, novels, historical novels, art.... yada yada yada. Kids books are categorised in: calm the #%*¥ down type sleepy books, learning type stuff, general stories, Christmas themed books(yep!), the too long for bedtime so maybe tomorrow dept., the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler aisle. The end.

mygorgeousmilo · 17/07/2017 19:27

Pallisers I am also 'in love' with books. May, or may not, be a bit obsessed at times! I buy them constantly, and even glancing over now, at Haruki Murakami's IQ84 is like seeing an old friend.

LOL don't mean buddah is like Hitler just mean some people find it just as offensive. Especially if you have put for example a buddah statue above your toilet

Net curtains because we want to be able to wander around the house without passers by and neighbours seeing in.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/07/2017 19:48

I have colour coded books and I love books and have loads of them. Before this I had no system at all so just wander around the house looking at the spines, plus I tend to know where they are anyway because I spend lots of time looking at the shelves. The colour coding has made it easier to find them and looks pretty!

Popchyck · 17/07/2017 19:52

Regarding parquetgate, I can imagine Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette sitting together at night in the Palace of Versailles, with her whinging "That parquet floor is just naffo, Louis. It is so last century. How about we replace it with a drawing of what wood looks like on a fibreboard base instead? Beech-effect all right? I'll order 100, 000 square metres of it just to be on the safe side".

Shame they were rather overtaken by events before they could get Floors2Go in for a quote.
