Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

I have two statues of Buddha; I think they are beautiful. But then I am a Buddhist. Statues of the Buddha's head on the other hand - naff and offensive.

Refilona · 17/07/2017 19:56

Yes I also hate vertical blinds. They're so ugly and look really cheap. I've seen them in red and wanted to cry.

No, I really don't think that a statue of Buddha in your home is in any way, shape or form the same as having Nazi paraphernalia decorating your house. Not sure what you're LOLing about. One might be considering thoughtless, depending on context. The other is absolutely morally despicable.

Feature walls ( particularly big floral print)
Big modern Leather sofas - I can cope with more traditional looking small/ single seats
Teal anything
Jack vetriano prints
Big canvas prints
Big family photos where everyone is lying on their front in a white studio. Particularly if there are multiple extras pics inserted into the picture - worse if it's on a big canvas
Magnolia - there are so many nicer shades of cream, it has such a horrible peach tinge

friendlyflicka · 17/07/2017 21:23

I am amazed at all the hatred of wallpaper. There are some disgusting wallpapers and there are some wallpapers (usually extremely expensive) that are just works of art - so beautiful. I love wallpaper

SwedishEdith · 17/07/2017 21:29

I've just seen this. I thought it would be appreciated here.

RiverTam You might want to refer to the original post you're responding to- I had to go a few pages back to figure out why the hell Buddha had anything to do with Nazi paraphernalia! Karma someone upthread was saying having a Buddha in your house would be like someone in Asia having pictures of Hitler.Hmm

MaQueen · 17/07/2017 21:39

I am really torn on this colour coding of books thang now.

Glancing across at a bookcase I realise I have inadvertently shelved them in a vaguely tonal manner...it looks okay.

crushed velvet beds. 70's porn set.

Pallisers · 17/07/2017 21:52

See on that shelf, I'd group all the black books together, then the white, then the green, then the others :) I basically colour code within categories - all the novels, all the poetry etc. and I didn't do long blocks of colour just maybe 7 books in a row. It was a surprisingly soothing activity putting the books up in colour.

Fontella · 17/07/2017 21:54

crushed velvet beds. 70's porn set.

You would hate my bed then.

I've got a burgundy embroidered velvet bedspread. It's definitely not 'porn set' though. It's more boho/old hippie/Indian/ethnic. I love it!

I had a colour coded bookcase but it became a bit of a design cliché so I jumbled it all up again. You couldn't flick through a 2011 copy of Living Etc without seeing every bookshelf being organised like this.

RiverTam · 17/07/2017 21:56

Bouncy yes, you're right. Sorry karma x-posted with you, I wasn't aiming that at you!

MaQueen · 17/07/2017 21:56

Pallisers but then you get lots of random height discrepancies

MintJulip · 17/07/2017 21:59

I wouldn't worry about your books tonal shades nor their height, your focus should be on the actual book case.,It needs to be painted.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 17/07/2017 22:03

Thanks to a PP I've spent 3 hours today watching Signs Of The Times on BBC iPlayer.

It's the best thing I've ever seen.

The Daily Mail sad faces at the end when you see them perched mournfully next to their diabolical taste are EPIC!!

MaQueen · 17/07/2017 22:06

It's bleddy oak Mint. You don't paint oak [clutches pearls]

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2017 22:06

Living room without a coffee table or side tables so nowhere to put your mug/glass.

nina2b · 17/07/2017 22:08

Your focus should be on the books.

ConstanceCraving · 17/07/2017 22:10

Do you mean paint the book case in a shabby chic kind of way MintJulip? I'm confused.

Fontella · 17/07/2017 22:10

I wouldn't worry about your books tonal shades nor their height, your focus should be on the actual book case.,It needs to be painted.

It needs to be painted 'in your opinion'. MaQueen might like it just as it is - her bookcase, her books, her choice.

Bluntness100 · 17/07/2017 22:13

It's long been carpeted over and when the carpet finally goes - in the not too distant since moths have been at it - it's likely to be covered with rather lighter wood

Don't rip it up, have it sanded back, it wil, go back to the original blonde wood.you can then varnish or stain it any shade you like or just with clear.

Tatlerer · 17/07/2017 22:15

Nothing wrong with a completely tiled bathroom. Those who only part tile do so because it is a cheaper option of which looks unfinished to my eyes

Not true. I'm doing four bathrooms in my house at the moment and the decision to only tile the floor and shower cubicles has nothing to do with cost and everything to do with personal taste.

This has been a great thread! Variety is the spice of life and all that.
