Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

I love my home . DD and I downsized after years of struggling in a bigger house meaning we had to have lodgers to make ends meet. It was a very grown up house , boring neutral shades , minimal and dull.

We decided this new home would be sparkly and shiney which it is and we love it !

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/07/2017 16:19

Or not, maybe we can all smile and think "isn't it nice we all have different tastes"

I hope it's this. I've had a few of these trends in the past (and some now), but I wouldn't expect everyone to love how my house is.

For example, I have that navy blue that's been in fashion on (one!) of my walls but I've seen it so much now on IG, that I utterly despise it (but can't be arsed to decorate. And in my defence I was going for grey (!) but couldn't get the right shade).

Someone upthread mentioned teal. Apparently that is going to be the 'next big thing', so expect to see it everywhere soon.

Imamouseduh · 17/07/2017 16:21

Feature walls
Fitted carpets
Teal asseccories
Laminate flooring
Live, laugh, love etc signs
Uvpc doors/Windows
No front door step (when the door is a couple of inches above the ground and you just step down onto nothing)
Astro turf
Exposed pine anything
Imitation granite counter tops
Beech kitchens
That chunky wooden next type furniture
Leather dining chairs and beds

dietcokeandwine · 17/07/2017 16:29

We have a few of these heinous interior decoration crimes in our home, including a grey kitchen, grey walls in ds1's bedroom (mind you he wanted black, so grey was the compromise Grin) fitted carpets upstairs and laminate floors in the lounge and playroom...

My personal hate is parquet flooring. Don't care how solid and wooden and classic it might be, I loathe them.

When we did our house up we ripped up and chucked out all the old parquet flooring and replaced it with nice oak effect laminate. I realise that some people will regard this decision as horrific but in all honesty I'd rather have cheap laminate than a parquet floor!

Bluntness100 · 17/07/2017 16:29

'The beatings will continue until morale improves

Now that's a slogan I would put on my wall...😜

What is the point of a thread like this? To make people feel "less than" about their homes?

What why would you feel that? I love this thread. Be confident in your decor. The thread makes me chuckle. But then I can't make a chicken last more than a day and I have FAIRY LIGHTS....!!

in all seriousness though, everything is on here. If you've not committed a faux pas you haven't updated your house since the sixties...Grin

Elendon · 17/07/2017 16:30

One thing I will never understand is horns from animals decorations or taxidermy.

I'm with you on this Basket

Elendon · 17/07/2017 16:33

CremeFresh We decided this new home would be sparkly and shiney which it is and we love it !

Love it. Enjoy and Flowers to you and your daughter (real or not).

ohifonlyicould853 · 17/07/2017 16:34

Fridge magnets.
Anything Cath Kitson.
Crockery with writing on it.
Clutter (everything should have its place).
I'm sure I have others but need to get back to the day job!

MuchasSmoochas · 17/07/2017 16:34

Cracking thread. I think I might win though with my pine clad ensuite, yes even the ceiling. We are doing up an old house room by room and dread finding out what lies beneath.

Katiepoes · 17/07/2017 16:36

I have a glitter ball in the loo. Ha.

I need to know why a coffee machine is wrong though? Mine is my life support it's not 'decor'. Also - for the poster that does not like stairs nest to the front door you are not alone, the positon of the stairs in the house we have just bought was one of the things I loved!

If you want real crimes the maniac that owned my current house needed locking up - she evidently liked to put up new wallpaper pretty frequently, but without removing the previous layer. FOURTEEN layers we scraped off the bedroom, 14!!

Ev1lEdna · 17/07/2017 16:37

People have mentioned lots of things I like on here so I'm glad we are all different and lots of you have said you have these things in your house - I'd probably love your houses. I have to admit I'd love to see the grey glitter wallpaper - I have a feeling I might like it.

I do not like chintz - no not even the modern(ish) Kath Kidson flowery stuff (I do like some of her other prints and I like the flowery bags just not interiors) and I do not like photograph style wallpaper - like wallpaper of books or tree bark or fake wood. Having said that all these things might look good in the right place, done by the right person and that's the secret of good interior design I think.

I also give no fucks about what estate agents say about decor and I love a black and white tiled floor in the bathroom.

Fortunately I don't care what the MN way to interior design is either (I'm thinking looking at the list it is an empty white room with a concrete floor Wink Grin

I like what makes me happy to see every day because I'm the one who has to live with it.

(I do not like toilet roll dollies with knitted dresses)

(or plates on the wall)

Hmm
Katiepoes · 17/07/2017 16:38

And I have hundreds of fridge magnets, each tackier than the last. I even have some that only come out at Christmas, love me a cheesy magnet Grin

thatsnotwaynesbasement · 17/07/2017 16:38

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 17/07/2017 16:41

When I was younger I thought the height of sophistication was the cutlery with, 'knife', 'fork', 'spoon' written on and decided that's what I'd have when I left home.

Luckily I inherited my grandmother's large cutlery set so that particular fashion faux pas was sidestepped.

CremeFresh · 17/07/2017 16:41

For all the glitter and purple haters - and to make it even more of a no no - I made it myself GrinGrinGrin

AmysTiara · 17/07/2017 16:42

I don't really care how people decorate their home but i can't stand messy homes with piles of clutter everywhere.

Likewise homes with a musty smell are not pleasant. Open a window ffs Grin

Ev1lEdna · 17/07/2017 16:43

•coffee machines

Shock that's not an interior design thing. My espresso machine is a bloody necessity! Brew

Flyinggeese · 17/07/2017 16:43

I don't think this thread is unkind. Everyone has pet hates and it's good to get them out there! Also many poster said said I don't like x, y and z but then say what 'unpopular' items they have that they love.mits lighthearted.

I dislike those matching ranges of kitchen items, e.g. re or lime green kettle, toaster, canisters etc. but I love fairly lights and have plenty of them! They're cosy.

Ev1lEdna · 17/07/2017 16:45

@Katiepoes I missed your post on the coffee machine - I completely agree. I'm glad someone understands.

Flyinggeese · 17/07/2017 16:46

Oh and I had no idea grey was 'everywhere' and this year's avocado bathroom suite. I've just had my bathroom done with grey paint and white metro tiles and absolutely love it. No plans to change it any time soon. Quite like the idea it's naff to some!

LapinR0se · 17/07/2017 16:46

Jesus why on earth would you take up parquet and replace it with laminate?? Confused

Ev1lEdna · 17/07/2017 16:47

Bookcases

But... where do the books go.

I am confused by this.

Ev1lEdna · 17/07/2017 16:48

@Flyinggeese - I think your bathroom sounds lovely and the only thing that counts is the fact you like it.

RiverTam · 17/07/2017 16:52

Did someone upthread just compare Buddha to Hitler??????
