Am I a horrible snob?
Here are mine:
Bowls of pebbles on coffee table (why?)
Black and diamanté furniture
Photos printed onto canvas (CRAP quality just get a good photographic print and frame it!)
Those shiny duvet sets and cushions
Fire surround but no fire place (not) even a hole in the wall!

What is the point of a thread like this? To make people feel "less than" about their homes? Hmm

BumpyHead · 17/07/2017 14:53

ldn If you feel 'less than' based on a thread on the internet, you'd do well to improve your confidence.

Should we all just never voice an opinion in case it hurts someone's feelings?

GaryGilmoresEyes · 17/07/2017 14:54

Brick wallpaper.
Hate it.
And large artificial flowers.

Tinnie88 · 17/07/2017 15:00

We're just about to move. We currently have our TV on the wall...as it's such a mumsnet faux pas, what do other people do with theirs? I have a hatred for TV cabinets and all those 'useful' slots. To me a piece of furniture solely for the TV is no better than having it on the wall...i don't judge others BTW just correct TV placement is clearly a big deal on here!

Our lounge is where we watch TV so yes it's on display. There will be another small tv on the wall in the kitchen diner so I can listen to cooking programmes whilst I cook (sad I know!) we will however have no tv in the snug lounge (books only) so at least I won't have to worry about being o so tacky in there!

The80sweregreat · 17/07/2017 15:02

dark wallpaper - grey or black is the worst. i hate my bedroom wallpaper and often wonder what possessed me to buy it ( swirly mauve things)
cant persuade dh to decorate it again.
i hate matching stuff too and too many cushions.

KickAssAngel · 17/07/2017 15:03

Just looked at the link to buying books by the meter - they do imitation books, in case having real books just isn't fake enough.

I'm tempted to get some of the penguin ones, though. I'd probably read half of them.

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2017 15:07

I thought this thread was a bit of a laugh. I don't feel less than about my home. Different people like different things. I have had people come round and been sniffy about my décor, but I might not like their taste.

BasketOfDeplorables · 17/07/2017 15:09

Tinnie we have ours on a sideboard thing with drawers. I'm not sure what people's opinions are on them, but I like ours. I'm not against them on the wall, though, so what do I know? I think most people put them in the wall to save space and think they're less obtrusive there. I really don't like the black plastic TV stands that go on the floor, though. They definitely scream 'toddler, come wipe your hands on me'.

Cod · 17/07/2017 15:23

I hate islands and bar stools. The stools are never very steady and islands make me feel like a short order cook.

BouncyHedgehog · 17/07/2017 15:24

Minimalist kids bedrooms, all white or grey with nothing colourful and no toys. They make me sad, like the poor kid just has to sit quietly on the end of the bed holding their one vintage teddy bear, wearing their designer clothes, not moving in case it creases the duvet...

Palpatine · 17/07/2017 15:24

Glitter wallpaper and diamantes. It's bad enough my kids spread glitter everywhere with their art projects from school, I don't need my walls to look like a unicorn jizzed all over them.

LightDrizzle · 17/07/2017 15:31

I'm guilty of treble TV crime: fuck-off big, inset in the wall, and above the stove (which is inset into the wall). We went from a tiny non-flatscreen to this so it was a big change, but this house and interior is super modern, I like the fireplace to be the focal point in the room so unless we were to watch the telly craning our necks, above was the place. I also hate the twee hiding of TVs in cabinets, or the loaded equivalent, - retracting into the floor/ceiling.

I'm enjoying this thread, it's inevitable that most of us will harbour at least one interiors "crime" in our houses.

Cantspell2 · 17/07/2017 15:33

As far as I see it The point of this thread is to have a laugh at the general naffness of interior design. It is not aimed and any specific person or style.
Plus it makes a bloody good change to read something that is not about someone's shit husband/partner/mil or random neighbor. No mention of how great or how shit Jeremy Corbin is. No mention of benefits, crap landlords, crap teachers or some random person who works in Tesco and looked at them funny.

ExPresidents · 17/07/2017 15:36

It's bollocks to say if you like books and reading you cannot possibly colour code your books.

Mumofazoo · 17/07/2017 15:39

I personally don't like minimalist and I realise that my home may not be someone else's cup of tea. It is interesting reading about everyone's likes and dislikes as we are all different. My home is very bohemian with bright colours and so many plants. I have so many books and treasured items that I have collected and that I have inherited. I love my home and when we have guests they always comment on how warm and inviting it is.

mygorgeousmilo · 17/07/2017 15:42

Cantspell exactly!

Neoflex · 17/07/2017 15:44

The Buddha theme. It's actually offensive to Buddhists. Imagine going to some house in Asia with statues of Hitler just randomly placed around.
The everything matching!! Where do people find the time? Why is it pleasing to see the same pattern on everything? And people who match their outfits to the wallpaper and stand next to it to take a photo. I can't even match the pillow cases to the duvet cover. Or sometimes even my socks.
BUT we too are sinners and have the wooden words love and home on the wall between some photos frames. They were a gift. Oops.

The zebra dining chairs were left when we bought the flat and I keep saying I will get round to replacing them but haven't yet and now they are ripped and the foam is poking through.

We have no carpet in any room cause it sets off dhs allergies. We just wear comfy slippers

Hapaxlegomenon · 17/07/2017 15:48

Why do people hate glossy kitchens?! They look so satisfying, I wish I had one. Also teal has come up alot. My parents recently asked me to help them redecorate and real is their favourite colour -should I avoid it? Why do you not like it?

YoungBritishPissArtist · 17/07/2017 15:57

The YouTuber and blogger obsession (which I'm seeing more and more in real life) with:

*rose gold and marble
*slogans and cutesy pics relating to unicorns, mermaids, coffee, #girlboss, #goals, etc
*succulents
*Muji clear drawers containing 30 odd Mac lipsticks
*speaking of Macs, they only ever have an iMac or a MacBook. God forbid they have a Windows PC
*piles of books with pink spines stored vertically, for decoration not to be actually read
*record players

It's just so samey and will date SO quickly.

YBPA - I think those are PCs, but don't go easy on those cacti!

HipsterHunter · 17/07/2017 16:07

@YoungBritishPissArtist ha ha I love that look!

What is the point of a thread like this? To make people feel "less than" about their homes?

Well since about every single look has been panned that means everyone must feel bad!

Or not, maybe we can all smile and think "isn't it nice we all have different tastes"

YoungBritishPissArtist · 17/07/2017 16:14

Basket - a rare example of a PC in this context Wink

Hipster - when Wilko and Sainsbury's are flogging this stuff, it's going to be over very quickly. My posts were in the spirit of this thread, a tongue-in-cheek dig.

BasketOfDeplorables · 17/07/2017 16:18

I have a few things that people have hated, including some things I've said I hate. I also like a bunch of things that others have mentioned and won't stop liking them. I'll still hate leather sofas, no matter how much someone else hates fabric ones. Taste is subjective.

Except taxidermy. That's just grim.
