To ask you to help me remove a security tag?

I'm not a thief I promise!

Picked up a bottle of prosecco on the way home as a rare treat to celebrate my first week at work.

Got home and realise they've left the security lock topper thing on it. Went to walk to the nearest supermarket to beg for help (bought from supermarket near work a 45 min bus ride away) but realised I didn't take the receipt from the self checkout Sad

Can anyone help? I've been pulling and pulling. I'm skint and have been looking forward to this all week Blush

I really hope you get into it @PengiQuin

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 19:51

I tried the YouTube thing already, there's no way the knife will fit.

Mummy pig would definitely smash it open, she deserves a good drink with that irritating little pig as her DD.

Neighbours already think I'm a bit of a lout after the police surrounded the house looking for exP a few months ago (we've been broken up years). So if I knocked on their door asking for help removing a security tag from a bottle of wine, I fear I will definitely be the talk of the street once again Blush

Try this!

TheNewSchmoo · 07/07/2017 19:53

Crikey, I'm wondering where you are, as I've never seen a security tag on a bottle of prosecco. Premium spirits, yeah

mineofuselessinformation · 07/07/2017 19:58

A plastic picnic knife?

ParadiseCity · 07/07/2017 20:01

Stand in the street and flag down the next grocery delivery van that passes? Your neighbours won't think you any MORE wierd Wink

WillowKnicks · 07/07/2017 20:01

I'm not a thief, honest, either but i once had something similar & googled it & it was so easy to remove, just hold a lighter on the back of the tag & it springs apart.

ParadiseCity · 07/07/2017 20:03

Does the corner shop have tagged things? Do they know you in there, they might open it just to be nice if you ask them - you could call ahead?

QuestionableMouse · 07/07/2017 20:07

Don't smash it and drink it. There could be shards of glass in it and you really don't want to drink those.

MagicMoneyTree · 07/07/2017 20:08

No advice but I really hope you find a way. This would totally ruin my weekend night.

SongforSal · 07/07/2017 20:10

This is possibly the most important thread I have ever read on here. OP, I have no practical advice, but I did just read this thread to Dp and it generated a rather concerned 'oh shit'. I hope you get it opened. I once had to uncork a bottle of wine with a fork. It took an hour. Hope you get more practical advice than this, routing for ya Wink

BusterGonad · 07/07/2017 20:11

Try the lighter thing mentioned up thread!

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 20:12

The lighter thing was exactly the kind of easy trick I was hoping for. But it didn't work, and now my house stinks of burnt plastic.

The corner shop lady would definitely take it off for me, but they don't have this sort of thing, no Sad

Still trying. Hopefully it's open in time for love island, love island and prosecco have been my dream all week loser

As others have said, no advice I'm sorry, just loving that you are using a Danny dog magnet to try and fix the problem!! Good luck!

RortyCrankle · 07/07/2017 20:15

I had this problem once, I got into it by heating up a garden knife on my gas fire until it glowed red hot and then hacking into the plastic. If you can slice the top off, you hopefully can reach the cork with corkscrew.

Good luck.

The sword thing can, apparently, also be done with a spoon ( ), but I don't think either will work with the security tag over. Could try if desperate though.

MyNewBearTotoro · 07/07/2017 20:16

Sorry but cannot believe you didn't notice that security tag at the checkout!

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 20:16

I only have a colander Blush could I strain through a t shirt?

I do feel like a complete alcoholic btw before the AIBU wasps come and try to sting me. But I hardly ever drink, I promise Wink

Sorry but cannot believe you didn't notice that security tag at the checkout!

I'd just done a 12 hour shift at a new job, and am not particularly observant at the best of times.

Really an amateur cheap alcohol thief looking for advice to make my millions

Strain through any clean fabric would be fine. Tea towel/t-shirt what's the difference. But try the hot knife first. That sounds like it could work.

Xeneth88 · 07/07/2017 20:20

I had a similar situation.... You need a lighter, patience and a bottle opener. Heat a small area for a while, then work bottle opener into the softening area. If you're that skint and cant afford another bottle let me know, I'd help a woman in need of wine :)

RortyCrankle · 07/07/2017 20:23

Sorry but cannot believe you didn't notice that security tag at the checkout!

The checkout girl packed my bag, so had no idea until I got home.

Ginlovinglady · 07/07/2017 20:27

That YouTube video is awesome
I am going to steal wine from now on in.

It's only 8.30
I AM ROOTING FOR YOU
sitting smugly drinking wine

FizzyCherry · 07/07/2017 20:29

*What would Mummy Pig do?"

She would call fucking Miss Rabbit, who would have the right tool for the job because she has a business removing security tags on the side.
