To ask you to help me remove a security tag?

I'm not a thief I promise!

Picked up a bottle of prosecco on the way home as a rare treat to celebrate my first week at work.

Got home and realise they've left the security lock topper thing on it. Went to walk to the nearest supermarket to beg for help (bought from supermarket near work a 45 min bus ride away) but realised I didn't take the receipt from the self checkout Sad

Can anyone help? I've been pulling and pulling. I'm skint and have been looking forward to this all week Blush

I don't have any ideas except going back and asking if there's any way you can prove that you bought it.

Did the assistant not remove the tag when he/she confirmed on the checkout that you were over 18?

LawrenceSMarlow · 07/07/2017 19:26

Do you have a sword?

TheEmmaDilemma · 07/07/2017 19:30
Grin

Little saw?

EyeHalveASpellingChequer · 07/07/2017 19:31

Drill into the bottle to get the wine out.

HazzaB89 · 07/07/2017 19:31

What sort of security lock is it? 1 with a wire or with the sort of shot glass?

IWantABlueBanana · 07/07/2017 19:32

Still go to the supermarket to get it removed!! Happens here all the time unfortunately

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 19:33

No. He just pressed the button to confirm I look over 25. Prosecco doesn't usually have one of them I don't think, so he probably didn't realise. I've never seen one on there. Was only an £8 one, nothing fancy! I didn't even register there was one on there until I got home Sad

It would be at least a 90 minute round trip on the bus with rowdy drunks. I'm not sure it's worth it 😩

And no sword unfortunately! I remember my friend used to smash wine bottles when we were teenagers and didn't have a corkscrew. But I don't think that's the solution Grin

You need a magnet.

That will do it!

(Not a thief honest, ex supermarket manager)

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 19:34

I have my work badge magnet, though I guess that won't be strong enough? I'll try

I did this with an item of clothing, lost receipt so went into shop with screenshot of bank screen showing the Tesco transaction. As it happened they didn't ask to see it, only apologised that the tag hadn't been removed and took it off for me. I would go into the branch and ask.

SatsukiKusakabe · 07/07/2017 19:36

Sorry I meant a nearer branch

PengiQuin · 07/07/2017 19:38

Do you need a magnet for each side? My work badge magnet's stuck well on one side, but my Danny dog fridge magnet is doing a shit job opposite. What else would I own that was magnetic 🤔

My nearest branch is still a 40 minute round trip walking. I don't drive. I don't even have a spare tenner to walk to the corner shop and buy another one. Worlds smallest violin, anyoneSad

How did you not notice that!!!
I think a small saw is the only option
Christ I would literally go mental if I couldn't get into a bottle of wine/gin/delete as appropriate

mumthatruns · 07/07/2017 19:41

You need it at the top on the nobbly bit as that's the bit they would put in the gadget to take the tag off.

HazzaB89 · 07/07/2017 19:42

Have you got a saw or a strong knife? You'll need stronger magnets than fridge magnets

mumthatruns · 07/07/2017 19:43

Alternatively try to hit it against something hard to crack the plastic.

Those tags are horrible!! We stopped using them in my store as they're temperamental even using the proper tag release!

Good luck.

(I think you'll need a bigger magnet)

ParadiseCity · 07/07/2017 19:43

I think your fridge door will be magnetic, where it closes?

Or smash it somehow? And strain it before you drink it in case of glass shards Confused

Walkerbean16 · 07/07/2017 19:43

I've had a really shit day but seeing you try to open prosecco with a Danny dog fridge magnet really made me laugh! Sorry OP!

ParadiseCity · 07/07/2017 19:45

Let's all think, what would Mummy Pig do?

Whichwayyisup · 07/07/2017 19:45

Seriously how did both you and shop assistant not notice?! Shock

mumthatruns · 07/07/2017 19:45

Found this!!
Might work?

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 07/07/2017 19:46

this would be a mini emergency and ruin my night if it was me and I couldn't open my wine

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 07/07/2017 19:47

Strike through fail......
Any nice neighbours that could help you?
