To think this is not a fucking lasagna?!?

Ok, just got in from the worst meal ever!
I'm a vegetarian, went to the pub with meat eating friends.
Thought I'd be lumbered with just chips again, but to my surprise they advertise a vegetarian lasagna.
So, I ordered it. 20 mins later my "lasagna" comes out...
in a foil dish is nothing but vegetables in a tomato sauce.
Sliced courgette, pepper, egg plant, mushrooms with sweetcorn, peas and cubes of carrot mixed into what is allegedly a tomato/bolognese sauce. Bullshit. It tasted like watered down ketchup.
I enquired about the meal with the waitress who said no that's the right meal. I then asked "well, a lasagna should probably contain... lasagna sheets shouldn't it? it's a bit odd to call it a lasagna when I'm sure pasta hasn't even been waved at it let alone anything else?" She walked off and I ate it without further complaint,
But aibu to think that it's an abomination, not a fucking lasagna?

Its not a lasagna, you are right. Not to hate on the veggie but unless its got meat in it, it's not a lasagna. I get your point though, you'd expect a couple of lasagna pasta sheets in there even for a veggie lasagna!

It's not lasagne that's for sure! It's a moxed vegetable bake. Could be nice but not what was advertised.

Lasagne should have lasagne sheets as you say but also a white sauce as well and a tomato-ey one.

No offence taken Bobbiepin traditionally it is made with meat, although now can be made with lentils/soya mince in place of the mince. I'd expect something that could at least looks wise pass for the real thing even if it's fake meat

The only unreasonable bit here is why you actually ate the disgusting muck. Wouldn't even the chips and side salad have been a less revolting option?

I wouldn't have accepted that or paid for it. Especially as she walked off.

The salad had a vinegrette (not sure I spelled that correctly) on it, and I don't like it but that's more my taste than a fault there's hence I didn't mention it, and that was all that was with it! I didn't want to go hungry.
While everyone else was eating some relatively decent food

How selfish of your friends to not agree to go somewhere with a bit of a selection.

Vegetarianism is hardly new there should be a few options on a menu. How hard cab it he to find a place that serves whatever meat they want along side a selection of vege stuff.

I'm not sure it does have to have meat to be lasagne. Lasagne are the sheets of pasta. One sheet is a lasagna.

Lasagne doesn't have to contain meat. It's the shape of the pasta.

Yes lasagne is the name of the pasta. Lasagne Bolognese is what we usually have in the UK, which is the meat/ tomato/ cheese combination. I love a vegetable lasagne with my own home made lasagne sheets when I can be bothered.

Rubbish. Lasagne is the pasta sheet, if you layer any old shit in between lasagna sheets it is a lasagna! Lasagne alla bolognese is what you are thinking of, but thats one specific type.

That sounds more like a ratatoille to me. Although the way it was cooked and presented to you sounds totally unacceptable. No way should they say it was a lasagne.

I admit my auto correct gave me the wrong spelling for bolognese and will has spelt it correctly.

What sort of backwater do you live in that you can't get vegetarian options at a pub/ restaurant ? Aside from that tell them in future that you don't want salad dressing and if something is revolting send it back and don't pay .

floral Queensland Australia on balance I went to a lovely restaraunt the other day and it was pretty 60/40 meat to veggie options, most things had a (nice) veggie version.

I would expect any lasagna to have pasta sheets but the rest is open to interpretation. My Italian friend makes a lovely pumpkin one.

As others have said lasagne is just the name of the pasta. Most places outside of italy it is used to mean lasagne al forno (baked) with mince etc. and call lasagne 'lasagne sheets' but in Italy I've had lasagne (just the pasta) with pesto, it was delicious.

I wouldn't expect a veggie lasagne to necessarily have soya mince as most I've seen contain vegetables but I would expect a lasagne to contain bloody lasagne!

Australia that explains it! I have had some weird "Italian " dishes in Australia.

I have sometimes had lasagne with slices of vegetables instead of pasta. Could it be a little slice of health food misery made this way?

I would have sent it back! It sounds revolting!
