To think this is not a fucking lasagna?!?

Ok, just got in from the worst meal ever!
I'm a vegetarian, went to the pub with meat eating friends.
Thought I'd be lumbered with just chips again, but to my surprise they advertise a vegetarian lasagna.
So, I ordered it. 20 mins later my "lasagna" comes out...
in a foil dish is nothing but vegetables in a tomato sauce.
Sliced courgette, pepper, egg plant, mushrooms with sweetcorn, peas and cubes of carrot mixed into what is allegedly a tomato/bolognese sauce. Bullshit. It tasted like watered down ketchup.
I enquired about the meal with the waitress who said no that's the right meal. I then asked "well, a lasagna should probably contain... lasagna sheets shouldn't it? Confused it's a bit odd to call it a lasagna when I'm sure pasta hasn't even been waved at it let alone anything else?" She walked off and I ate it without further complaint,
But aibu to think that it's an abomination, not a fucking lasagna?

Could have been worse OP.
I had 'vegetable' lasagne last night in the hotel restaurant. I thought I recognised the flavour but couldn't put my finger on it for a minute. Then I realised it was salmon! The 'veg' was fish 😀 I wouldn't have minded (as I am not vegetarian) if it had just been other fish but I dont like salmon! Luckily its a buffet style and only had a spoonful to try so had other options😀
Maybe just another place that thinks vegetables are anything that's not meat😀 funnily enough the vegetables are all boiled to death anyway.

Oh god Willow2017 that happened to me at a buffet. The lasagne was labelled vegetarian so I took some. Had a few bites and gave my also-veggie DH some to try. He started chewing and said "this has got fucking tuna in".

I've never really eaten fish, so I didn't recognise the flavour. I nearly threw up when I realised Shock.

mary berry's book cook now, eat later has a fantastic vegetarian lasagne recipe in it - stir fried veg, and the sauce is ricotta / mascapone and cream... I often cook it for dinner parties and we are all big carnivores but it is universally popular

Diamondmac · 06/07/2017 23:45

Have they genuinely got 'lasagna' confused with 'ratatouille'? I mean they're both foreign exotic dishes so it's an easy mistake Grin

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2017 12:01

They are indeed and both come from the same continent. So very confusing.

SerfTerf · 07/07/2017 12:12

Funnily enough, I've just taken a box labelled "lentil lasagne" out of the freezer to defrost. I've never cooked any form of vegetarian lasagne and I doubt anyone else would, so I can only assume DH had a moment of "Italian cuisine confusion" last batch cooking session. I'm hazarding a guess at lentil bolognese, from peering at it.

abbsisspartacus · 07/07/2017 12:23

When I was veggie the weirdest meal I had was vegetables covered in cheese and microwaved it included cabbage stalk carrot peeling and peas I think they raided the veg bin

Willow2017 · 07/07/2017 13:58

Abbs
I hope you have them it back that sounds a right p take.

On the menu of the cafe we had lunch in was 'vegetable' baguette. The picture had sliced boiled egg in it 😀 possibly meant salad baguette just lost in translation but it made me think of this thread and laugh.

Mittens1969 · 08/07/2017 18:55

No, it's definitely NOT lasagna!! With the veggies nicely done it would be ratatouille and that can be very tasty. But not only was that not lasagna, but it sounds as if it tasted like shit too.

Mittens1969 · 08/07/2017 18:59

You definitely shouldn't have eaten it, you should have had a refund, especially considering the behaviour of that waitress.

I've no problem with the idea of a veggie lasagna, it's just as nice as a meat lasagna. Both should be yummy.

Sashkin · 08/07/2017 19:06

They've combined all dietary restrictions into one meal, haven't they? Vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, Halal, the less strict end of Kosher (if you keep strict Kosher, you won't be eating in a restaurant). So now they don't have to put any more thought into it. Bet they thought they were a fucking genius when they came up with that idea.

Mysteriouscurle · 08/07/2017 20:59

To be fair veggie lasagnes are usually rubbish unless you make your own. But it is SO time consuming and sometimes you just want to eat out.

WillRikersExtraNipple · 08/07/2017 21:03

No restaurant would only offer one type of meat on the menu as they wouldn't get any customers, yet veggies or vegans are all supposed to be happy with either a shit veg "bake" or plain pasta with red sauce

Thats not true. Very expensive fancy restaurants will often only have three options on a dinner menu, based on what was good that day. So one meat, one fish, one veggie is perfectly normal in a quality restaurant.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/07/2017 21:06

Sounds like some sort of crap ratatouille, OP

Mysteriouscurle · 08/07/2017 21:08

Just remembering when I was vegan and younger and not inclined to make a fuss I asked for a vegan option and got a plate of lettuce and diced carrots. In a vair naice hotel which I try not to venture over the doorstep of nowadays

Weebo · 08/07/2017 21:15

We had caterers once who made this.

The idea was the sliced courgette and aubergine were the layers instead of pasta.

It just ended up as mush, though.
