To think this is not a fucking lasagna?!?

Ok, just got in from the worst meal ever!
I'm a vegetarian, went to the pub with meat eating friends.
Thought I'd be lumbered with just chips again, but to my surprise they advertise a vegetarian lasagna.
So, I ordered it. 20 mins later my "lasagna" comes out...
in a foil dish is nothing but vegetables in a tomato sauce.
Sliced courgette, pepper, egg plant, mushrooms with sweetcorn, peas and cubes of carrot mixed into what is allegedly a tomato/bolognese sauce. Bullshit. It tasted like watered down ketchup.
I enquired about the meal with the waitress who said no that's the right meal. I then asked "well, a lasagna should probably contain... lasagna sheets shouldn't it? Confused it's a bit odd to call it a lasagna when I'm sure pasta hasn't even been waved at it let alone anything else?" She walked off and I ate it without further complaint,
But aibu to think that it's an abomination, not a fucking lasagna?

It came out in a foil dish?

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2017 14:09

Vegetarian food in this country tends to be what somebody, probably a meat eater, thinks vegetarian likes to eat. Some places make lovely food that is suitable for vegetarians. Other places have one crap option that is bloody miserable and costs the same as a meat meal.

Go on sites like Trip Advisor and give a review of the shit meal. Name and shame.

If I ordered veg. lasagne I would expect sheets of pasta with layers of vegetable between them in a rich tomatoey sauce with a cheesy topping, possibly with soya mince or lentils in it . If the pasta sheets weren't there I'd be asking for my money back.

BeachyKeen · 06/07/2017 14:09

At a stretch, maybe they only had vegan? Most pasta noodles contain egg

FruBayerischOla · 06/07/2017 14:10

selfish, but why would you give a 'vegetarian' friend food that contains tuna, prawns and crab meat? Or do you have pesticarian friends?

flumpybear · 06/07/2017 14:12

They should have called it ratatouille as it wasn't an Italian restaurant - French Cuisine would have been allowed 🤔

deffoncforthis · 06/07/2017 14:13

There is no such thing as minced meat making anything "technically bolognese" in Italian cuisine, by the way.

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 14:14

No pasta AND no cheese? Food crime :(

And now I'm hungry

PinkHeart5911 · 06/07/2017 14:14

What a rubbish effort by that place! One does kind of assume it will at least contain pasta

It's not hard to have a few veggie dishes on offer. Veggie lasagne is very easy to make so no excuse at all for what they served you.

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 14:15

And I do like a ratatouille, but if I order a lasagne, I would be most aggrieved if one didn't show up

HamletsSister · 06/07/2017 14:15

A vegetarian friend asked about options in the local pub and was told lasagne. She ordered it. When it arrived, under the topping, was mince (meat mince). When she complained the bar man told her that it WAS vegetarian as it had vegetables in it and cheese on top!

milliemolliemou · 06/07/2017 14:24

No it isn't a lasagna nor from what you've said was it palatable. Did you pay for it? However a heck of a lot of bad pubs and restaurants just reheat or compose food by numbers because they can't afford chefs or staff. I'd go on their website and post a recipe for vegetarian lasagne and a link to good vegetarian cook books. Meat eaters like vegetarian options too.

blackteasplease · 06/07/2017 14:27

Anyone who types "by the way" at the end of a snippy post suggests caring a little too much!

Cutesbabasmummy · 06/07/2017 14:28

YANBU. Sounds vile. I hope you didn't pay!

SerfTerf · 06/07/2017 14:28

@HamletsSister that is shocking! Like an anecdote from 1973.

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 06/07/2017 14:30

At a stretch, maybe they only had vegan? Most pasta noodles contain egg

Quite a lot of pasta is made with durum wheat and no egg, but you're right that lasagne is traditionally an egg pasta.

The lack of cheese with the OP's dish would indicate that, again you're right re: they are aiming at vegans too (so sorry vegetarians - us vegans hate this tasteless shit too - I'm sorry you've had to inadvertently share our pain!)

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2017 14:30

If they couldn't knock up a vege lasagne then it shouldn't have been on the menu. Places that don't have the staff to cook to order can buy in meals that are ready-made and heat them up.

jodiemumtodavid · 06/07/2017 14:31

That. Is not a lasagna. A lasagna needs to have mince/quorn, pasta sheet, pasta sauce, then repeat at least three times and covered with cheese on top in my book.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 06/07/2017 14:32

Ooooh nooo!

A) That is sooo not lasagne (as pointed out- its the pasta rather than the actual content!)

B) As a fellow veggie I feel your pain.

I Ordered a veggie lasagne at a local the other day- my 5 yr old said "Why have they given you a plate of green dog poo Mummy?"

It was overcooked sloppy pasta, layered with the mushiest spinach and an unidentifiable sauce that was tasteless! Angry

Strangely after that I wasn't so keen! Grin

But yeah....veggie food options sometimes are fucking awful....I dont eat out much for a reason.....mushroom risotto again ffs! Hmm

OhTheRoses · 06/07/2017 14:35

Still trying to picture a fucking lasagne and what two lasagne sheets can get up to.

cdtaylornats · 06/07/2017 14:37

How selfish of your friends to not agree to go somewhere with a bit of a selection.

Ever gone to a vegetarian restaurant and asked what the carnivore options are? If your lucky you might get a caterpillar in your salad

Cagliostro · 06/07/2017 14:39

Well that's gross, roses :o

I bet fusilli are proper dirty in the sack though

newtlover · 06/07/2017 14:41

you really should not have paid for that
I get not wanting to make a fuss when you are out with friends, but putting up with that just encourages them to carry on
def a review on trip advisor

WellThisIsShit · 06/07/2017 14:47

Ugh, how vile. And no, of course that cannot be called lasagne!

Defo leave a review warning people. It's not just the vileness of the meal, it's the rudeness that anyone has to have in order to actually serve it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/07/2017 14:48

Hardly the same thing Hmm

A carnivore still has a choice of an entire menu in a vegi reataurant.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/07/2017 14:51

and you can serve meat and have more veg options than some inedible rank concoction that's not what was advertised
