I have failed as a mother.
I gave my children very humdrum and boring names.
They won't get anywhere in life.....they're doomed.
What kind of name is this.....really?????

The power of a wide ranging classical education and deep faith.

The other children's full names are Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius, Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan, Peter Theodore Alphege, Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam and Mary Anne Charlotte Emma Rees-Mogg.

PickAChew · 05/07/2017 21:35

Wow! They can definitely afford the ink for lots of middle names!

Helendee · 05/07/2017 21:38

I think he chooses amazing names for his children. I wish I had been more imaginative with my four. Smile

Fantasticmissfoxy · 05/07/2017 21:39

Poor Mary didn't get anything fancy did she??!

amousehaseatenmypaddlingpool · 05/07/2017 21:43

I love Anselm, even though I'm not entirely sure how you pronounce it.

KatherinaMinola · 05/07/2017 21:48

I am slightly jealous of the confidence and self-assurance.

I also felt sorry for Mary.

ginghambox · 05/07/2017 21:51

Poor Mary didn't get anything fancy did she??!
Named after the Bronte sisters.

Marylou2 · 05/07/2017 21:58

My DF claims his family were too poor to give him a middle name. I'm sending him the link to this thread to make him jealous. Maybe he could use Wulfric.I love that.

Fantasticmissfoxy · 05/07/2017 22:01

Ah Gingham I stand corrected - I knew there would be an explanation!

Edsheeranalbumparty · 05/07/2017 22:02

I can't get the picture up, does it say Sixtus?!

JRM is really weird, he is almost like a parody of a posh, privileged person who is completely lacking in any awareness that most people aren't like him, but sadly I think he is for real.

Leeds2 · 05/07/2017 22:02

Nothing exceptional about Alfred, Peter, Thomas and Mary.

Anselm and Sixtus are a bit out of the ordinary!

Stopnamechanging · 05/07/2017 22:03

Some of the first names are very plain, good, strong traditional names which the upper class favour.

Zampa · 05/07/2017 22:04

He's effectively called his 6th child, "no. 6". Poor little thing.

He's a name, not a number!

VanillaSugar · 05/07/2017 22:04

They're nice Catholic names. Anselm is pronounced Ann-Sell-mmm.

JeReviens · 05/07/2017 22:07

I love Sixtus! I suppose it wouldn't work for a first child or in fact any child barring the sixth Grin

KatherinaMinola · 05/07/2017 22:07

No, the Brontes were Charlotte, Emily and Anne (plus Maria and Elizabeth who died as children).

IJustGotHitByADeer · 05/07/2017 22:07

DH and I are ttc and if we're lucky enough to have a DD, we were thinking first name Mary and middle name Anne. Knowing Rees-Mogg has done this already puts me off slightly.

I love the names of his children, so original but I wouldn't be brave enough myself Smile

Dawndonnaagain · 05/07/2017 22:08

He's a parvenu! Can't bear the man, couldn't bear his bloody father, either!

MaryWortleyMontagu · 05/07/2017 22:08

Mary can't be named after the bronte sisters as the middle bronte sister was Emily not emma.

MaryWortleyMontagu · 05/07/2017 22:10

Zampa he's named after pope sixtus (JRM is a Catholic). If the name was to signify the number it would be sextus, not sixtus.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/07/2017 22:11

I don't think Sixtus and Sextus (six) are the same name are they?

They have different origins and meanings.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/07/2017 22:13

JRM is for real I'm afraid . I live in his constituency. Whenever he is in our town he always wears tweeds and when he was canvassing before the election he had one of his male mini-moggs dressed just like him handing out leaflets (poor kid looked bored out of his brains )

ssd · 05/07/2017 22:13

posh names for posh kids

am glad someone like him is in government, am sure he can really understand how the ordinary family lives

Zampa · 05/07/2017 22:15

I appreciate that the Latin for six is sex, which would be even more inappropriate.

Regardless,, he's still called his 6th child "SIX-tus".

Zampa · 05/07/2017 22:15

Bold fail ...Blush
