Honestly don't see the issue. I think it's lovely.

I wouldn't wear it as MOTG, but it's not that outrageous that I'd be moved to start a thread about it on Mumsnet.... ConfusedConfused

If the dress code called for it I would definitely wear it! I have several of these types in my wardrobe and the last time I shopped with my 20 something DD she persuaded me to buy the same dress as her (although I insisted on a different colour)! Nothing wrong with that dress if you have the figure for it IMO!

Agree that weddings overseas are completely different to here. I have been to a few where you are expected to dress like you are going to the Oscars.

Why anyone would care enough to start this thread is beyond me. what a mean spirited, sad little person.

I think the op getting abuse for starting a thread like this is harsh. There's 101 crazy threads out there with racist undertones and real nastiness which none of these posters feel compelled to launch into. She just becomes an easy and lazy target for a bit of vitriol. She wasn't making personal comments just generic ones.

It's gorgeous, what's the fuss all about?

When my eldest son was married we were so hard up that I had to buy a £10 dress from a clearance catalogue! I still feel guilty about it eight years on.

I think the op herself said she was being mean. Women attacking other women for no good reason, as the op is doing, seldom goes down well.

For a black tie event, which this wedding will have been, there is nothing wrong with that dress.

The women who reviewed it is in the 55 plus age range and there is a very high chance she looked very elegant in it with the right hair make up and accessories.

A Thread about people in the review section of shopping websites confirms everything I ever knew about the AIBU board and its contribution to MN.

What other reason did the OP start this thread than to take the piss out of the MOTG?

It is a bit unfathomable.

It was a single review - a complimentary one at that - about a fairly unremarkable dress on a site.

Not 10,000 MoTGs descending on the site in slathering ecstasy.

Doesn't exactly suggest a trend. Confused

It's a perfectly suitable dress for a Long Island wedding. Not all weddings are as stuffy as some in the UK. As for someone saying it isn't very flattering, how on earth do you know what the lady in question looks like? Or are you basing that opinion on yourself?

The things that get people all oh WTF on here are beyond the pale at times.

I think it's gorgeous and perfectly acceptable for a MOTB/G to wear to a wedding! I couldn't wear it as I'm short and a bit dumpy and it looks a bit unforgiving around the middle.
YABU.

Who was it wore that revealing black dress to their daughter or sons wedding? Year or 2 ago? An aging celeb. They looked fantastic - it was funny and unsurprising because of who it was.

Is there really such a shortage of mother-in-law threads that you've had to start one about a woman you've never met at a wedding you didn't go to?

there is no review. Did you leave a review yourself? JL have removed it. Bit of a storm in a teacup you created isn't it?
