AIBU to ask for your washing machine recommendations?!

It looks like I need to replace my washing machine. It isn't draining properly and is leaving grey residue marks on the clothes. I've had someone take a look at it (twice!) and he cannot find anything wrong with the pump or other obvious parts. Given that we inherited the machine when we bought the house 6 years ago (and it wasn't brand new then) we've probably done quite well out of it. But I have no idea what I'm looking for in a new machine! I'm not looking to spend crazy money. Just want a reliable machine that does all the basics really. Any recommendations?......

Beko make reasonably priced and reliable machines. Ours is only a few years old but is going strong.

RandomUsernameHere · 21/06/2017 13:49

I'd recommend Miele for top of the range or Zanussi for mid-range. I would NOT recommend Bosche, we've got one at the moment and it's rubbish.

BaffledMummy · 21/06/2017 13:58

Second Miele...worth the money.

BangkokBlues · 21/06/2017 13:59

BOSCH - Serie 4 WAN28280GB Washing Machine - White

This is the absolute dogs fucking bollocks.

8kg
It has 30 mins quick wash for half loads.
1h proper wash for full loads (most machines do super quick or really long, no 1h option).
Really easy to use and customize e.g change temp on a cycle.
Really quiet.
Good spin.

Fucking love it.

I've got an AEG Lavamat 9kg and I absolutely love it (and it's friend the Lavatherm drier). It was about £500 but money well spent IMO. The 20 minute quick wash is a godsend.

Collectorofcookbooks · 21/06/2017 14:51

We've got an 10kg Zanussi which I love - the 30 minute quick wash is the most used option. Can fit loads in it. Got it from ao.com, they fitted it and can recommend them - had a problem with the fridge freezer recently and they have excellent customer service.

Topseyt · 21/06/2017 14:56

Bosch for me. I had 14 years out of my last on, which I only replaced last October.

Current Bosch was £380 and going fine so far. Time will tell if it is as good as the last, but the results of each wash are good.

Oldraver · 21/06/2017 15:00

Miele...though if possible take the option of having it fitted.

I know it's an easy job, but they weigh a ton (well 95kg) and I pulled my arm trying to heft it into place

SistersOfPercy · 21/06/2017 15:25

My Mum went through 2 Beko's in 2 years, then she had an Indesit Moon which was truly awful as it just grew mouldy no matter how much you cleaned it.

I have an LG, it's got a ten year guarantee on the motor. The 30 degree quick wash is about 25 minutes long. Tis fab.

peachgreen · 21/06/2017 15:30

I'm just about to buy one so have done bucketloads of research. We're going for the Beko 11kg, it gets great reviews and is so reasonably priced. If I had the money I'd go Miele, but I don't!

LarrytheCucumber · 21/06/2017 15:32

We've got a Bosch Classixx6 which has survived two house moves and is still going strong.

user1490142285 · 21/06/2017 15:47

I don't suppose it would help to give you an anti-recommendation/steer-clear?

Although it was a Which? best buy or whatever they call it, I detest my new AEG L75670WD 7kg Washer Dryer. We bought it to make more room in the kitchen (which has worked obvs) but as soon as we used it washing liquid leaked out of the drawer and etched the front panel permanently and AEG have been absolutely rubbish. The 20min wash leaves everything looking/smelling like it still needs a wash (our last washer had a 30min wash which I used every day) and spins which are meant to be 1600rpm leave everything wetter than they should be. The dryer mainly steams everything so anything larger than a flannel has wrinkles steamed into it.

I will be following this thread to find out what I should have bought! Hmm

RoseVase2010 · 21/06/2017 15:48

I love my Miele, mum and MiL have Miele too and they last a life time. It's just good! Easy to use, lots of settings and copes with child and tradesman!

brexitschmexit · 21/06/2017 15:48

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Plenty for me to have a look at there. There's a local family run shop that comes well recommended so I might go along there armed with some of your expert insights! They install and recycle your old machine which certainly appeals. It's a very tight fit in the downstairs loo where the current machine is under a counter, so I will definitely need assistance!

We had a Miele in old place which was good. Have just bought a Zanussi, all good so far but only used it 3 times. Had good reviews on ao.

Crumblevision · 21/06/2017 16:20

Don't go with Beko. I have had mine 3 years and I cannot wait to be rid of it. It frequently doesn't spin properly, it doesn't get rid of stains (and we are not particularly mucky). Best bet is a Bosch. My old one lasted 11 years, will not consider anything but Bosch in the future.

FanaticalFox · 21/06/2017 16:21

Not a beko. Ever.

Hotpoint make good washing machines but not tumble dryers

FanaticalFox · 21/06/2017 16:22

Miele are amazing but a real investment. Samsung look good I'm going to consider a Samsung next.

SheSaidHeSaid · 21/06/2017 16:24

I've had a hotpoint washer/dryer that I paid £450 for about 7 years ago. It's been brilliant.

My parents have a flashy Samsung that looks good but not sure how much better it is than mine.

imonaplane · 21/06/2017 16:28

Miele if you want to pay that much otherwise I would recommend a Samsung Ecobubble. Have had mine for about 4 years and it's been brilliant.

CottonSock · 21/06/2017 16:30

Zanussi is reliable and well priced

hotritenow · 21/06/2017 16:30

I have a Samsung, love it, brilliant results on a quick wash.....

phoebemac · 21/06/2017 16:32

John Lewis own brand are good.

Pinklady1981 · 21/06/2017 16:33

Samsung eco bubble...brill!!
